Maybe I am. Maybe I should just be apathetic about it. I don’t know. But I think it’s a disgusting stance to have as a supposed fan. I don’t even understand how it’s possible. Do your reckon City fans feel it would be worth it if he goes to us? Or Dortmund fans if he goes to Bayern? Or AC Milan fans if he goes to Inter? Or Lazio fans if he goes to Roma?

If that’s your stance, you might as well plead allegiance to Messi himself, not Manchester United.

(i had edited my post, as i think i overdid it with 100,000 of thousands of posters :) )

Let me tell you about a family friend.

He supports both Liverpool and Man Utd apparently :)

These people aren't worth of having proper chats with!

I don't think we are capable of pulling this off, but we had SAF running affairs - we would have been all over this!

Shows how far we have fallen as a club that it doesn't even sound realistic that he would consider coming here.

His mentor manages City.
I think we would always be struggling to be honest.

The equivalent situation would be say we had Fergie, and a competitive team, and Ronaldo pulled this stroke. We're talking a number of years ago.
Would he go to the lesser City (or say Liverpool) at that stage? Presuming both could pay the same.
No chance.

Wow that truly is plastic

I realize there are plenty of people like him, just please keep him away from the Caf!

Fecking dippers coming on here to shite on United and the fans opinions on a United message board. Know your role you twats and learn some respect

I don’t even disagree with the main thrust of what he’s saying (Messi isn’t joining us), but the fact that he’s a scouse cnut and shitting on us on us is making my piss boil. Can’t believe people petitioned for him to avoid the ban.

Any time a giant move happens for one of my team's rivals, be it City, Liverpool, the Yankees, the Patriots, the Islanders, etc., the hope is always that it spurs something in my team's ownership to pull their collective heads out of their asses and try to keep pace. That's the only scenario wherein I can see not being totally aghast to see Messi at the Etihad next season. And even that is an extremely optimistic way of looking at things and generally never bears fruit.

Yeah whilst we haven't flattened Sancho links there is slim hopes

As it looks like the big window to push us into competing with the top 2 isn't happening, the only saving grace with Messi is that he'll surely lead them to knocking Liverpool back down a notch.

Still not a worthy celebration of any kind, but until we're able to do anything about it, the lesser of two evils.

Yeah but still doesn't make the move any easier to swallow, only getting at least Sancho could do that but really need to explore creative option for signing Grealish as well though

Messi can easily keep going till 38/39 by slowly transitioning into midfield. Its a very scary thought and it could potentially propel City to a level we cannot touch.

Yeah that is the brutal reality of the situation

There is a difference, Ronaldo played for us so it would be a return to his old club. Pep manages Man City, who are a complete opposite of Barca.

Messi has always said he wanted to stay at Barca because of its culture, history, what it means to the region of Catalunya etc. City are a sports washing franchise!

The fact that we may not even be in the conversation for this, despite having more than 100 years of footballing culture (and being the "biggest club in the world" (TM)) is hugely disappointing!

I wish we had the ability to pull this off. It could really transform our team + what we can do in the market in future. Players move clubs just for a chance to play with Messi!

Hate to break it to you but City is basically the English version of Barcelona, not in terms of what they have won and history but they have poached all the boardroom and backroom staff from there

Yeah that and the absurd amount of money he pressured out of them every second season.

You may, but you don't own the club, purely as a business venture!
I've seen us withstand 26 years of being in the figurative wilderness while Liverpool won everything and we were still the biggest draw in the country. I'm sure we'll withstand a few fickle internet fans watching City instead of United because they signed a past-his-peak superstar.

Recent update regarding details on City's proposal

The latest:

- Barca gets a 100-150M package
- Eric Garcia and Angelino go the other way to Barca
- They'll negotiate with the club directly to avoid legal wrangling

It some silly deep state level conspiracy theory. There's also the Messi picks the starting 11 one that goes around. If he did that, wouldn't his best friend Aguero start every game for Argentina instead of being being benched for Higuain? Also he was pretty upset and vocal about Valverde being sacked. As you said as well he wants to leave because he's not happy about the decisions and signings the board has made over the last 5 years so it doesn't make sense at all.
I mean....you just need to apply a wee bit of thinking to realize that these accusations doesn’t add up.

For the dummies that think Messi wouldn't walk into our team and be the best player in the league maybe you should I dunno, try watching some Barca games. The barca fans I know are of the opinion that he carries that entire team on his back. If you go ahead and read the comments by the barca fans on reddit, not a single one wants him to leave.

"Barca fan here - even when he's not carrying the team on his shoulders, this is Messi - he's better than all our other players on almost every day."

"There's a reason we have had a Man Of The Match Other Than Messi (MOTMOTM) polls for years in r/Barca. It's just ridiculous to vote for anyone else in most matches if he's on it, so we keep him out of that poll, and in the separate GOAT bracket "

etc.

They are already at a level we cannot touch. We have finished above them once since 2011. They finish double figures points above us every season. We are about £500m worth of investment away from them, even without Messi.

For us to pass City with this current board, we need them to get a lot worse, because we simply will not get to the level they are at. We need them to feckup their next appointment post Pep & sign poorly too. We basically need them to become us, and hire & incompetent manager like Moyes.

If they're getting money plus players, with Messi and Suarez' wages off the books, I'd suspect they'll go for Sancho.

He definitely would but will be going to City anyway

I think this is key. Barca would want a couple of players in return to start their rebuild.

Just shows how far we have fallen that the best player ever might switch teams and we are not even on the conversation..

Why? He wants to come back to England apparently and Barca are a mess right now.
PSG leaked that the salary they would pay Messi and his entoruage would total 140m euros a year. Add a100m on top of this and its madness. It really is

Feck it, if he goes to City can we get Ronaldo back? I believe our number 7 is free. :smirk:

If we can't stump up the cash and Barca can, then why not move?

Just to get home how absolutely mad this is 100m plus Messi’s current wages would mean without crowd money City will be spending around 30% of their yearly revenue on Messi alone.

Barcelona is in no position to sell Messi. They're happy to pay Messi to keep him even just for another year. He's what's holding this team together and staying competitive despite all the stuffs going down at Barcelona in recent years.

It's Messi who got fed up and forcing his way out for free here. Wherever he ends up is up to him. Losing Messi for free, and good luck paying transfer fee then wage for Neymar.
I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere that Messi can just null his contract , maybe we will see if you are right in coming weeks though

Just shows how far we have fallen that the best player ever might switch teams and we are not even on the conversation..

While he'd undoubtedly improve our team, he's 33, would earn over £1m/week and cripple our ability to sign other players (and we NEED more squad depth).

Would love him here, but with all considered, I'd prefer Sancho

And even with crowd money City will be spending around 30% of their yearly revenue on Messi alone. Mental!

100/150 + Eric García would be a good deal for Barça. They could try to include Gabriel Jesus, since apparently Barça are also interested

Really hope he stays where he is. He’s not going to win them the CL imo, but city will have.a monopoly on every English trophy if he joins.
