Wtf? A United fan wouldn’t mind one of the GOATs at Man Shitty? I couldn’t care less how he fares — obviously he’ll rip it up. I do not want him there at all.

Yeah spot on we have to respond to this surely

The Abu Dhabi project is the only logical place, ex Barca staff, Pep and endless money to pay in wages.

Neymar at PSG and Messi at City, we're watching on at oil rich vanity projects.

Quite simply SANCHO and GREALISH are must buys

The reputable City links are a bit worrying...

Always wanted to watch Messi in England but this...not like this. 2020 has been cruel enough

No, it isn't. He's Adidas' poster boy, he can't leave Barcelona for an nouveau-riche club. Not one whose main sponsor is Puma or some other bargain bin sports equipment brand.

Neymar = Nike = PSG.

There's a sinergy at play here behind the scenes. Messi can get both the prestige and the money. It's either Real or United. Don't worry about the money, those two will find it. It's a special occasion. Hell, even Bayern would be in contention. He is a special case.

Of course there are links to City. His agents are talking to everyone. Some are less secretive than others.

If he does go to City then it's game over for other PL rivals for next 3 years. City most logical choice for him ever since Pep arrived there.

Barca journalist are reporting Messi wants to move to Man City. It makes sense also no matter how much I hate it. Hopefully the Barca convinces him to stay because if he leaves, City is the only logical destination.

Great player alright but he will be 34 during next season , and even legends like Messi cannot cheat age. He would obviously still improve any team but at this stage of his career he would not improve a team so much to automatically make them untouchable. Now maybe it was because he is currently disillusioned at Barce but her cut a very somber figure in their hammering the last day , he was very poor in that game.

I don’t think it matters so much who the shirt sponsors are. Like for example with Nike and Rashford and Sancho if he comes to United.

I don't think he's anywhere near dropping off yet at 33. He just had another 20-20 season breaking the league record for assists in a season in the process.

He's never been injury prone or one to not take their fitness seriously so I could easily see him having another 4 years of world class play well into his mid 30s like Ronaldo has.

Hell Zlatan was banging goals in during his only fit season with the club at 34/35 and Jaime Vardy just won the golden boot at 33 too. Pretty sure Lionel bloody Messi could do the same and most likely better in one of the most talented squads in the world.

Messi will not improve United or suddenly make us champions. The way we play football does not match his style of play and is not beneficial for our club moving forward.

Seriously, he is not the same player he was 5 years ago. I'd be surprised if United even bothered with him.

Has he ever said anything about Pep? I don't pay any kind of attention to statements made by players from other leagues so I have no idea how much it seems to matter to him that Pep is at City. Everyone takes it for granted that Messi is eager to go play for him again, but Pep was only his manager for three years and I can't imagine that the GOAT who has only ever lived in Argentina and Spain and could go literally anywhere he wants would be excited to live in Manchester. Pep's contract expires next year, doesn't it? While he could renew, I think there's every chance that he goes to PSG instead. It's kind of the obvious next step for him and the timing fits, so I wouldn't be surprised if Messi goes to Paris and then reunites with Pep there next year.

I'm not that bothered about getting him to United. He's on the last legs of his career, doesn't suit our system, his wages would be ridiculous and get in the way of transfers with more future in them, and I frankly dislike how he's treated like some kind of god. He basically ran Barcelona, and now they're looking very unstable for it. Would he arrive with any kind of humility or would he show up expecting to be worshipped by everyone at the club? If he were 28 I'd be more open to it. At 33 I don't feel it's an opportunity we couldn't miss. It's short-sighted and we're not in a place right now where gigantic upheaval and cultural change is healthy for the team. He would rock the boat too much and I don't want to risk it for a player who probably has two or perhaps three years left in him. He has already begun to decline, and while he's still great, how long will that last? He started very young and has played practically every game of every season for the last twelve years. He's not very likely to last into his late 30s. Nothing about him tells me he's the kind of player who ages well.

If you told me that I could choose between Messi coming to United and Messi going to City which means Woodward convinces the board to pay Dortmund's asking price for Sancho, I'd take the latter. We're rebuilding, and derailing that for two or three years just to see if Messi can do well here is not something I'm hoping for. Going from the club he literally grew up in, where absolutely everything revolved around him, to a club in rough waters in a league he has never played in, is essentially guaranteed to be reflected in his performances, so there's every chance he wouldn't even excel. The Premier League is notoriously difficult to adapt to and the man is 33 years old and reportedly doesn't speak English.

He is too lazy for United and not what we need now. I'd love to see him play for city, he might be good for a season but I think his work rate and wages will really be to their detriment

Anyone who thinks Messi would be to anyone's detriment doesn't realize how good he is. He's the best player to have ever played the game and is the best player in the world still, on a completely different world talent wise to anyone else. You'd love to see him play for City? From the perspective of that would ensure Liverpool wouldn't win a title during his 3 years or whatever he would be at City with Pep, then sure because we're so far off. But outside of stopping Liverpool? What the feck? The guy would make any half decent team into title challengers and any top, functioning side like City/Liverpool into the favorites for every trophy.

His contract is a rolling contract that he can pretty much terminate it at the end of any season he would like to. I doubt Messi goes to a weaker league. He'll go to a top team that has their shit together where he can give them the extra push to win everything in the last 3-4 years before he decides to call it a day. Man City with Pep is pretty much that team for him, perfectly set up for it unfortunately.

Nah. He's still the best player in the world by a distance. He won't make just any team untouchable, sure. He'd turn us from a team that scrapes top 4 and gets mid 60's into title challengers and probably even champions league contenders, but not untouchable and not quite favorites. But he'll make a top functioning team like Man City with Pep the clear best team.

I've seen it all.
It's started already where people assume he's going to City so they go with the "overrated/too expensive/too old BS" to make themselves feel better, even though we're talking about the best footballer on the planet and the best who has ever played football. Only silver lining is it stops Liverpool from catching up to our 20 for the 3/4 years he'll be there with Pep, long enough for Klopp to leave and their peak players to leave/decline and then hopefully by then we can get our shit together.

Wow, can't believe Messi is actually, maybe, could be, leaving Barcelona. It's only logical to be honest given the shambles the club is in. Maybe it'll give their new president resources to have a fresh start too, and he gets a change in scenery.

It would be absolutely horrible if he moves to City though. Them having a legend of the game like him will shoot their reputation through the roof. And they'll the best player of this footballing era playing for them every week. The amount of people who'll become temporary City fans. Urgh, sounds disgusting.

Liverpool winning the league and signing Thiago. City getting Messi and brilliance and an amorous boost in their stature as a football club.

We get Jack Grealish for 80 million

I've never really liked him, but he is the best ever and I'd still love him here regardless of his laziness when out of possession. Hypothetically, I'd take him over Ronaldo returning. He's still the best in the world, imo.

It'd be devastating seeing Man City sign the goat. Not only because of on the pitch reasons, but them just being able to say the best ever played for us would be horrible to see. Nevermind the impact it will have on a generation of fans who would then no doubt support City because of it.

Only positive is that they'd probably forget about resolving their defensive issues which would cost them points and trophies. But yeah, it would be sickening to see them get that level of footballer. He's an utter genius.

One step leads to another. They got the Barcelona alumni behind the scenes and on the sidelines.

Yeah spot on we have to respond to this surely

In the eyes of our board, Liverpool and City are not our rivals, so don't expect them to make any decision in response to what they do.
To them, our rivals are Tottenham, Leicester, Chelsea, meaning teams that compete for the last 2 UCL spots.

Their DOF, who was crucial in laying the groundwork for Pep to join, was the Barcelona DOF when Messi was coming through and during his early career. As awful as it is to admit, they've set the stage for a move like this...

If he does leave, it's kind of the most logical destination and it's going to be vomit inducing for the rest of the league

Exactly. United is not in the business of winning trophies. We are in the business of selling advertising.

Even if Messi doesn't win anything there, which is, unfortunately, highly unlikely, it'd still feel so wrong seeing him in a City shirt, playing week in and week out in Manchester.

It's been bad enough seeing the likes of D.Silva, Yaya Toure, Aguero, De Bryune play for them over the years, but Messi? Bloody hell!

If we are unwilling to pay £108m for Sancho we sure as feck won't be paying £80m for Jack Grealish.

True. Hope this falls through. Staying at Barcelona may be worse for him but would be better for us.

Scenes when Man City signs Messi and MUFC go from Sancho to some random Bournemouth winger for 40 million  :(

City would get immense boost to their brand and their name would be forever in the history books as a club for which Messi played. Really really hope it doesn't happen (although silver lining would be to see Messi in PL!).
