Liverpool winning the league and signing Thiago. City getting Messi and brilliance and an amorous boost in their stature as a football club.

We get Jack Grealish for 80 million

The scary part is the top two things are going to happen whereas we are ending up without either Sancho/Grealish

Dear God no...

Really would be absurdly on the nose for 2020

Scenes when Man City signs Messi and MUFC go from Sancho to some random Bournemouth winger for 40 million  :(

That should be Ed's final act at this club and he should gracefully resign before he rightfully gets hounded out by the hate mob

In the eyes of our board, Liverpool and City are not our rivals, so don't expect them to make any decision in response to what they do.
To them, our rivals are Tottenham, Leicester, Chelsea, meaning teams that compete for the last 2 UCL spots.

Jesus christ if Utd don't respond to something this enormous I could see myself falling out of love with Utd and never thought I would ever say that

Man, seeing Messi at City would be like having a multi-million dollar Ferrari parked in the garage of a $200k house. Such a massive player at a club that nobody really cares about outside of Manchester.

I hate to break it to you but Manchester's City support around the world is only growing.
Success brings reputation, specially among the new generation of football fans, which will quickly outnumber the old guard.
Those kids are the ones buying the lion's share of merchandise and hypeing their favourite clubs in social media, which, needless to say, is a big deal.
Honestly, outside of England, it's more likely the new generation of football fans thinks of MUFC as a thing for boomers.

Yeah we are probably seen as old hat and has beens in the eyes of a new generation of fans around the world

Agreed, the club I know and love cannot lack this much ambition, can it?

Yes, I remember when I saw the news on ESPN Brasil first hand. He nailed that Neymar was going to PSG, no ifs and buts like Romano and co.
First one to report Messi wanted to leave too, apparent Barca tier 1 unfortunately :(

If City end up getting Messi and we stumble about with Sancho and then don't sign him, I wouldn't even know what to think.

Good god this really is our version of the infamous Annus Horriblis
Those Abu Dhabi folks were dead serious about this project from the get go. They’ve invested in infrastructure and set up a proper institution behind the scenes. Making money off the operation is secondary - building the club through winning is the main goal. Whereas United under Glazer ownership is primarily advertising space. Our brand remains romantic and strong but it is not getting stronger. Liverpool’s lasting popularity even in their decades in the wilderness shows that the brand can survive yet - but let’s not forget that we live in a totally different media environment now, with vastly more content and competition for attention. Perhaps by the time our brand slips globally and cash flow growth starts to plateau the Glazers will sell the club ...

What makes you say that?
I think he will go to City. Messi doesn’t seem like an adventurous type. Unlike Ronaldo who has no qualms about challenging himself in the biggest stages and being clutch. City is the perfect home away from home - his Barcelona people are there and he can play for a couple of seasons with Pep before both leave.

As if Messi has never been clutch. Basically did everything he wanted to do at club level by age 25.

we sign no one, sell no one, give new contracts to deadwood and City get Messi. I don't think i'd be able to watch this next season if all those horrors played out.
If Liverpool signs Thiago too I am not going to watch next season. Can't bear the feeling of dread heading into games against our rivals, praying to not get thumped or humiliated. Even fecking Leeds signed Rodrigo, while our board is still busy watching porn in the boardroom not knowing what day it is outside.

Can this transfer window get any worse?
Here’s a terrible thought. Messi wants to leave on a free transfer- Barcelona are going to say no your release clause is now active and is $700m. But Messi wants to go and Barca need to rebuild so they may agree to let him leave to whatever club he chooses for a fee of say $70m.
But here’s the horrible bit, Barca then have that $70m plus $50 mil saved in wages on top of the funds they were already going to spend and have a massive hole to fill. Hate to say it but it would make sense for them to make a move for Sancho

Yeah I am feeling the same right now

I don't even think we are stumbling about with Sancho. It genuinely just seems like there's no movement or activity at all at the moment. It's a bit depressing

Could quite easily ignore Utd results next season if this crap continues on until the end of the window
