Ok man we get it. :)
If we don't get at least Sancho you'll loose a passion for the club.

Wish we could do some kind of protest that would actually make them take action, however I remember how they just laughed off the stuff in 2005 and 2010

Let’s be honest, it’s exactly what City want. It would boost their brand and worldwide appeal massively which they’ve desperately been trying to achieve. It’d also help them close the gap on Liverpool, which they need to do. It would also no doubt give Pep a reason to stay longer, who they need.

My worst nightmare and no doubt we will just sit back whilst Messi bangs in goals for them

Can't believe some would love to see him at City. Not even like but love. What the hell guys?
I don't hate City like I do Liverpool but if they get Messi, all clubs need to unite against Petro clubs and create a competition to rival UEFA. No way should lottery winners be allowed to destroy football like this.

Shit, if he goes to City then I might be done with football completely.

Yeah I'd be done. I am basically engaging now as a passing interest but that would kill it for me. Not cos he went there but just what the whole thing represents

It is a no brainer for Man City as long as they can work around FFP to provide a package to Messi. He will be a free transfer and a 2 year contract is not a big deal. Just imagine how many people will start follow Man City's game, IG, FB because of Messi. It is also a big win for EPL in terms of marketing as well. I hope Coutinho, James Rodriguez and even Bale play in EPL next season.

Is that... Glaston?!

Messi playing for your club would be something you tell your grandkids about.

City has everything in place (except for a solid back-line) for a smooth transition for Messi; we, on the other hand, still need a lot of work and a major change in tactics to accommodate his preferred playing style. Sancho is the way forward for us.

I don't even think we are stumbling about with Sancho. It genuinely just seems like there's no movement or activity at all at the moment. It's a bit depressing

I just hope the worst doesn't happen.

Finally feels like we're so close to challenging again and then to completely muck it up would be so annoying.

Barcelona need to bite the bullet and move on. They don’t have the team or the resources to continue paying a 33 year old cerca 1 million a week. It’s absurd when there are so many problems in their team.

Have the courage to move on Messi, Suarez and Vidal and use the money saved in wages to better the squad and bring balance back to the club.

Coutinho/Greizmann/Dembele with Fati to come in is a perfectly serviceable attack for the meantime and more legs in midfield is an absolute must.

This is the perfect opportunity for everyone to move on. It’s time!
Think this is optimistic in the extreme, personally.

Unless they get in a really special player or two, they're set to fall face first into a black hole without Messi.

It's not only what he provides on the pitch, but also the bereavement process of sorts every player/manager who is the fabric of a club leaves behind. Like clockwork, you can go through almost all the greatest players/managers of all-time and witness the same patterns of collapse even if there's a smattering of a recovery, the overall downwards spiral is evident.

This is the time Neymar or the like needed to be at Barcelona so worst thing is he takes on the burden for a bit whilst the healing as well as the rebuilding processes take place, but they don't have that and I'm not sure Neymar would be bounding into the scorched earth of a departed Messi's place, either.

Every bad result and subpar performance, the fans will take out on the club vexed as they are with their soul being yoinked from them. The word toxic gets thrown around far too flippantly these days, but the environment in and around a Messi-less Barcelona will be the very definition of it. You'll need players of massive confidence and mental fortitude to withstand the fallout and there are very few of those active let alone available to go to Barcelona.

Covid-19 at least protects from the jeers, whistles and protests inside the stadium, but not from the vitriol outside of games. It's not a destination for the weak minded at the best of times; in the worst of them, it's a club to actively avoid.

All of this is redundant anyway; we're just watching the final season of GOT as it should have been written. Final act will be Messi turning into a dragon and devouring the board and giving Suarez the chance to behead Koeman.

So Barca fan on a messi reddit thread claiming:
THIS ONE IS HUGE TIER 0 - "Messi contacted Pep Guardiola a few days ago. He wants a winning project. Manchester City have 300 million euros to spend for transfers."

Although the clause in Messi's contract to leave expired in May, his lawyers believe that it can extended due to the season being postponed. [tyc]

Messi wants to activate the clause to leave Barcelona immediatly. Barcelona position is still clear: Messi has a €700M release clause, the "free clause" has expired in June.

If true, holy balls, we are so fecked. :(

I am sure I am going to be in the very, very, veeeery small minority here but I don’t want Messi.

To me he’s the best player that has ever lived but he comes at too high a price, both figuratively and literally. He gets absolutely everything he wants at Barcelona so what happens if he comes here and doesn’t like Ole? Or Martial? If we had a strong structure with a great Chairman that might be ok but with Ed? You just know he’ll bend over backwards to accommodate what would be his shiniest of prizes.

Then we have his salary. We’ve worked hard to get rid of Sanchez and part of the reason is because his salary was hugely inflated compared to our next highest earners. Bringing in Messi on even 700,000 a week (if he takes a pay cut!) would have him on over double that of De Gea.

Overall I just think there is far more chance he upsets what we are doing here rather than helps us. At 33, his powers are going to be gradually declining and I think he is going to be a more frustrated figure as they do so, especially in the Premier League where defences are tighter.

He’ll go to City and I genuinely don’t think we should be too worried about that, especially if we can get Sancho who is much more suited to us and how we play.

Meh, at least it is not Messi in his prime. Still a top player, but not at the level he was at his prime.

And that is if he can leave this season anyway. Doubt Barca will rollover and let him leave.

If Messi goes to City we should really get Sancho. I cant imagine Ed seeing Messi coming to Manchester and thinking hell I wont buy anyone, no big signings this summer. Sadly I think board's ambition is fulfilled with a top 4 finished and they wouldnt be bothered if we would be out of top 4 next season.

I'm almost sure that it's Avram that is interested in Football and runs the club day to day. Joel Glazer is the one interested in sport in general and is more focused on the Buccaneers.
Joel is the one who runs day-to-day.

Has he ever said anything about Pep? I don't pay any kind of attention to statements made by players from other leagues so I have no idea how much it seems to matter to him that Pep is at City. Everyone takes it for granted that Messi is eager to go play for him again, but Pep was only his manager for three years and I can't imagine that the GOAT who has only ever lived in Argentina and Spain and could go literally anywhere he wants would be excited to live in Manchester. Pep's contract expires next year, doesn't it? While he could renew, I think there's every chance that he goes to PSG instead. It's kind of the obvious next step for him and the timing fits, so I wouldn't be surprised if Messi goes to Paris and then reunites with Pep there next year.

He's indicated Pep was the best manager he's had, praised him for development, as well as spoke about his eye for detail in games, also always usually has Pep in his top 3 for coach of the year in FIFA awards. Manchester do have quite a few Argentina in both Manchester clubs, a lot of players in City can communicate with him since its filled with Argentina, Brazilian and Spanish, as well as Pep and his coaching staff can all communicate with him without him learning English. One of City ITK the same one who broke City won't be suspended for CL before it was announced has indicated Pep has signed an extension (1-2 years), but nothing confirmed. Also one of Pep backroom coaches was Messi coach in his youth years + ex-Barca CEO and sporting director, as well as his mate Aguero. I'd say it has more to do with him seeing the City have the squad he can succeeded in Europe with and reclaim the Ballon d'Or. The guy who broke City as his destination was also the guy who broke Neymar to PSG before anyone and he was also the first to say Messi wanted to leave Barca and a few days to a week later everyone else found out.

I wouldn't say he's going to go there for sure, but I'd assume those would be some reason for him.

No individual carries you to a league imo. But Messi would probably take us from 66 points to 80-85. He's simply that incredible.
Depends on how the team is adapted to make the best use of a player and oppositions level as well. Messi and Ronaldo can carry a top 4/6 team to a League in Seria A, Ligue 1, I think and many teams in Scottish league.
My query is in the present state of Englush league.

I though there was a deadline which passed when he could leave on a free? I couldnt see him going to City if they have to pay a massive sum and the highest wages in the world, as they have only just escaped FFP ban. Will they risk the same again? Surely EUFA would be all over them to make an example this time, otherwise become a laughing stock.
As for Utd signing him:

Messi/his lawyers believe the set deadline is open to interpretation in a COVID-effected season and should still allow messi to activate it. This whole thing is going to court and if Messi wins, he is going to Man City.

I know but we’ve been quiet in the transfer market all summer except for Sancho. That doesn’t mean there is nothing going on. Remember Sanchez, we came up out of nowhere once we got positive replies from his agent.
We ain't signing Messi. Makes no sense for him to move to manchester united. I think we have been quiet as the people doing transfers are useless.

Messi makes sense for City, they play the sort of dominant football that suits him, I will lose a bit of respect for joining such a plastic nothing club.

Doesn't sound like something that will get sorted in any kind of a hurry...and you'd think Barca would have the support of pretty much the entire country to keep him in Spain.

I'm with you. He's a wonderful player but he's not what we need, for all the reasons you've given.

interpretations on contract language are resolved super quickly or drag on into infinity. Barca are in for a nightmare ride.

If this was Fifa, I'd take him here. But how would the rest of the players react if he came? Look at the camp when Sanchez came.

Messi no doubt would score 20-30 goals and justify it but still, it would cause issues no doubt. But if it was something like Adidas funding the project, it might not seems as bad.

Also, how would he react to the English climate and culture etc? For a young guy it might be easier to acclimatise but a guy in his 30's, with a family, might find it harder.

So many factors to think about.

Yeah. It sounds like a long legal battle if Barcelona wants to make a deal out of it.
