We're not even mentioned in that Athletic article

Oh well. If he goes to City how much you reckon he'll cost on FPL??
Good that we are not mentioned. Pressure on others, for a change. We are not mentioned for good reason; we are pretty shit in the transfer market. All not entirely well in Pepayellowribbon/#humanrights land either, it seems. I’d venture a guess he’d prefer Italy or maybe France.
... who is his agent anyway?

Look at it this way ... the benefits could be indirect. If anything could force the hand of the slimebags who own this proud club, its this kind of movement, and such visceral excitement in the market. Definitely Mr Ed will have his nose pressed to the glass, but will a little thunder in the marketplace shake our pals the Glazers just enough to open the purse strings in the way we fans want?

A very good case for us signing Messi but you forgot one thing -- our manager is Ole. After all the recent unproven manager Messi has had, I doubt playing for Ole is getting him excited.

very good point. However I would counter that with the fact other than Pep, who has been a “big name” manager for him at Barca? Enrique arguably the best other than Pep and was another home grown manager.

Pep, I believe would struggle to fit him in to his team.

Klopp couldn’t afford him, and wouldn’t want him based on his systems.

Tuchel at PSG, a bigger drawer than OGS yes, but is he really enough on his own.

Pirlo at Juve, completely unproven.

I’m not sure which manager at the moment is a big draw for him. Some would say Pep, I don’t see how it would work though.

I think if he leaves, he's got to go play in the Premier League.

Man City or Liverpool where would he choose? :nervous::nervous::nervous:

Might be Klopp...

I think United playstyle might actually suit him, Rashford and Martial have a great understanding of each other and they both aren’t too greedy to pass the ball, so Messi would benefit from that. they wouldn’t rely on him heavily like Barca do, since Rashford and Martial can hold there own in front of goal. United play a more direct and attacking football these days. And Bruno would be a masterclass player picking out Messi in his passes. It could be a match made in heaven. We do need a right winger.

Will take the oil money whilst we bring in a squad player on deadline day which is just horrendous

Liverpool seem rather sensible in the market. No way will they want to pay an individual about 700k (and the rest) a week. Not even for arguably the greatest player ever.

All joking aside we would have a real chance if City didn't have Pep & both them and PSG weren't bankrolled by the arab states

Man, seeing Messi at City would be like having a multi-million dollar Ferrari parked in the garage of a $200k house. Such a massive player at a club that nobody really cares about...
Fixed.

Even in Manchester nobody cares enough to fill the stadium once in a while.

If his motivation is money, he stays at Barcelona and collects a paycheck. Or goes to PSG to play a harem bitch with Neymar.

I think his motivation is cementing his legacy - he's pissed off at playing for a shitty team and wants to prove once and for all he's the greatest. He wants to win the CL again.

If he wants to do that, the only logical choice is England. And he's got to choose a strong team obviously, that leaves City or Liverpool.

If I were him, I'd join Klopp instead of Pep - Liverpool have 10 monkeys that can run around pressing all day for him to deliver the final ball.

Plus Liverpool have proved they can win in Europe's Pep can't even get a semi.

Messi could certainly help with that problem..

Just into two? You don’t deserve Messi then. :D
If Messi does indeed come here, would Rashford got his #10 jersey snatched away?
#7 is there for grab. For United, #7 is the most iconic number. Noone fits that shirt after Ronaldo left.

City is the only club in this country that makes absolute sense through familiar management personal, playing personal, achieving honours and being financially fecking loaded.
No club comes close.

How about Messi taking the #10 and we give Rashford the #7?
I believe Beckham used to have the #10 as well.

If Messi does join City I do hope he cripples that clubs finances long-term. Hopefully the other stars at the club get jealous too, especially if Messi just differs around when City dont have the ball.

Liverpool cant afford him, you can put that out of your mind straight away. The only clubs in England who can are City, Chelsea and United, and sad though it is, City are the obvious favorites.

Can anyone afford 100m a year in wages that have crippled barce ? Or do you think he would take a 50pc or 75pc pay cut ?

Swap for neymar might make sense

Barcelona is in no position to sell Messi. They're happy to pay Messi to keep him even just for another year. He's what's holding this team together and staying competitive despite all the stuffs going down at Barcelona in recent years.

It's Messi who got fed up and forcing his way out for free here. Wherever he ends up is up to him. Losing Messi for free, and good luck paying transfer fee then wage for Neymar.

Woodward will now make loads of noise about signing Messi because he knows that it won't ever happen, costs nothing to pretend and distracts the muppets (ie all of us) from the boring squad fodder he actually will end up signing.

Would be a killer blow to this great club if we don't respond with anything at all which looks a sickening possibility

Don't mind him making that noise provided he actually still signs Sancho before the window closes

Messi is a great player, one of the greatest ever but his best days are behind him. Seriously hope we don't sign him or even attempt to sign him.
I believe his likely destination is Serie A, Juve or Inter.

I don't know much about their ownership, and what they can or can't afford, but they're businessmen and a player like Messi is likely to be cost neutral once you factor in the marketing and sales a player like that generates for you overnight.

OMG HE'S TIER 1 FOR BARCA

Looks my worst god damn nightmare is about to become a reality and we don't even get Sancho to soften the blow

Meanwhile we win the "moral battle" against City because they are owned by billionaire oil tyrants and the world doesn't respect that, according to the CAF. I guess Messi has no respect and moral for humanity as well. We dodged a bullet there, mate.

GUTTED

Wouldnt mind him at City. it would push their brand, but we could finally see how he would cope. He is 33, if he destroys the league, imagine prime Messi here.

They are stronger than us and will be so for at least another couple of years. At least we could see some Messi magic along the way and someone stopping Liverpool
Wtf? A United fan wouldn’t mind one of the GOATs at Man Shitty? I couldn’t care less how he fares — obviously he’ll rip it up. I do not want him there at all.
