Lionel Messi

They might keep Suarez just for Messi to stay now. They'll have to make a concession of some kind that's for sure as this time it seems like a serious threat.

Koeman's first press conference will be must watch TV

Ehh...? This isn't necessarily a good thing, it's hurting Barca. They couldn't cope with the opponent's physicality anymore in big CL games.

Barca needed a clear out. It’s obvious. The last few managers have had to deal with Messi acting as a second manager for years. Same with Argentina when Sampaoli was seen consulting Messi on substitions.

Messi is reportedly consulted on transfers with the board. That’s been reported for years. His influence is enormous at the club.

Koeman has clearly seen this and decided those managers that went in and pandered to this setup inevitably get the blame when it goes wrong anyway. For me it’s clear he’s decided he can either go and do the same, or, take him on and assert his authority early. It’s a gamble, but I feel a man such as Koeman who is not one to shy away from some alpha male chest beating, has decided either way I will be to blame, so I’m doing it my way.

So he only put the request just to force their president to resign. Excitement ended quickly. Boooo.

No where does it say that any potential buyer has to pay him that much either. So who knows. Bet he’d still cost a fair whack.

Part of me is like it’s Messi. Just imagine him on the right with Martial and Rashford then another part of me is like but then Sancho makes more sense.

Would love to see Messi turn out for us but probably not going to happen. See PSG written all over this.
Yeah, I would love to see him wearing a united kit, he would be immense,
Sancho would definitely make more sense in the long run...but it's Messi...
I fear you may be right, PSG will be working away on this, in which case we should be all over Veratti, they'll need cash flow.

Damn he really holds the entire club by their balls doesn’t he? He seems worse than even Lebron running his teams here in the NBA.

Think he will stay. He always performs this type of tricks. Even if he leaves it will probably be PSG or some other club. However, I am just enjoying this whole saga and also reading barcaforum  . Good entertainment tbh.

He definitely is bigger than the club if Bartomeu steps down...

Florentino Perez would never

He'd tell angry fans to bugger off and splurge on WC talent

Barça would only sell Messi for more than 222 million € (Catalunya Radio)

More chance of Koeman being sacked within weeks of taking the job than there is Messi being sold to a European rival.

Has he ever said he wants to leave like this? Usually the media hypes him up during silly season but we know it’s never serious. This on the other hand is different.

Only thing left is for Koeman to resign and things will be back to normal. Messi will decide to stay.

Will Koeman get compensation if he’s fired? Would be an amazing weeks work

Is there a “if not satisfied you can return for free within 30 days” in managers clauses which shields the clubs from paying his compensation if fired?

Bartomeu has said he's stepping down. Wouldn't surprise me if Koeman is pushed now so this circus gets even crazier.

Mes que un club but clearly not mes que un Messi eh?

They are 33. They are legends, unforgettable. We can put all the possible adjectives but this moment had to arrive sooner or later.
The problem is that while Madrid got 100 for Cristiano they will let him go for free, and they will have to pay to get rid of Suárez.

It is also a very ugly exit , the captain leaving after a 2-8
In addition, instead of giving the responsibility to someone on the board, or Abidal's replacement, they have put Koeman in a difficult situation
Bet you're loving it though. Are there other sides other than Barcelona who can challenge Madrid regularly for La Liga?

He will have done that to himself. He has run that club so poorly, anyone with any self respect would have resigned a while back.
Well he wasn’t resigning until all this was he? He’s not the type. Messi has done for him. The rights and wrongs of that are up for debate and Bartemou makes Woody look competent but Messi being bigger than Barcelona is also part of their problem I think. It’s not a good situation at all.

Anyway, this is all finished now. To the Sancho thread!

Board: You're hired!
Koeman: Sweet! Oh Messiiiiiiiii?
Messi: No.
Board You're fired!
Koeman: Damn.. That will be 100 million. In cash, please.

You can't really put the president stepping down only on Messi's decision. He's had an absolutely terrible time there, overspending on a very imbalanced side, both age-wise and positionally. They need to sell to buy, the situation is dire and they've suffered the most embarrassing defeat in recent history. It's a culmination of a nightmarish reign and he should rightly step down. Instead he decided to go to war with Messi in the press, and whilst that would be OK if he'd have been remotely competent in the first place, there's only one winner when you've proven yourself a catastrophic failure.

I also wonder if a structural change at Barca is enough to convince Messi to stay. It's almost impossible to imagine they could challenge for the CL in the next few seasons given their current squad and finances. It's going to be a painful rebuild.

I'd quite like to see him move (of course to us, but that's not realistic).

Not the foggiest. I can’t think back of previous situations like this

Source?

If we move fast, we might be in with a chance here.

Rumor has it that Woodward and his team of elite negotiators are preparing to consider thinking about planning for making a bid. Apparently they're going to be opening with an offer of 20 million and Phil Jones in part exchange, which they consider to be fair in the current economic climate.

That club will crumble when he does leave. They had a glance into the void and lost their minds

Can we stop with these shitty jokes?

"incompetent" would be an understatement to describe Bartomeu's time as the president of Barcelona.

All good things must come to an end

Still, he's part of the pantheon. Bernabeu, Di Stefano, Flo, Zidane, Cristiano, Raul, Nobita. The 7 greatest madridistas of all time!
