Full muppet mode here any chance we get Messi and Sancho?
Thanks mate!Right now, 95%. The theory of "I will threaten so Bartomeu will leave" would not be logical either.
It would show what has always been said, that he has too much power, and he is too old to have it.
It also comes from a direct confrontation with Koeman, it goes beyond a problem with the board.
That literally doesn't mean he made the decision(because well he didn't) - these were reported before Koeman even came up.
Can’t see him coming to the premiership, but if he does maybe City won’t be the favourites.
Think about it. Pep’s tactics at City are different to when he was at Barca, you can’t carry a player in that system defensively. Everyone needs to defend from the top. Will Messi do that? No.
So they’d have to change the way they play considerably. Maybe Pep isn’t even interested. City have a clear identity to their game, worked on it for years, will they change it for Messi? It’s a big call.
Chelsea could afford him, their rigid style doesn’t suit in my opinion. Also the individual players there are very good, but I feel United have a better drawer at the moment.
United. Blockbuster signing, record shirt sales, Messi decides to prove critics wrong that he can only do it in La Liga.
We can afford him. £1 million a week for 3 years is less than the Sancho deal would’ve been. Plus we’ve already saved half of that getting rid of Sanchez.
Think of the return on investment in merchandise, globally.
Also the lasting effect on the reputation of United around the world for fans, future Lionel Messi’s. Commercially without question it would be amazing.
Now consider the playing style. Let’s be realistic here. We haven’t really got one, whereas City have a clear identity (as do Liverpool but they can not afford him).
Normally this is a disadvantage. Here it’s a clear advantage. We can build the team around him for the next 3-4 years.
Factor in Messi would have the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, around him. Pace, creativity, the ability to work with Messi is immense.
Joining PSG would give Messi a good chance of another Champions League medal. That is true. But on the whole it would be seen as a step backwards for his career. It’s not a challenge someone who wants to be remembered as the greatest ever would take. It’s too easy. It would make Ronaldo look superior in that respect.
Joining Juventus is another possibility. Imagine him and Ronaldo in the same team, that would be something to behold. It could be more of a lure than PSG for him.
But if he really wants to prove himself, where many people say he couldn’t succeed, in England then for the reasons above I feel that United would be the best club for Messi and Messi the best signing United could make.
Not just for the now, but the statement, the blockbuster amazement of it, would benefit United for years to come, long after Messi as it would by reputation put us right back up there with fans, sponsors and importantly future footballers, who would again dream of playing for United.
(It’s a dream Ed, but come on, make it happen!)
Well which baseball player should we speaking about? Why the feck are people discussing Tom Brady in the Messi thread?
I think it's unlikely, however, with the factors I've mentioned, not impossible. Same could be said with Sancho. However, at least with Sancho he's transferrable, we'd get some money back and his wages wouldnt be as eye-watering as Messi's.I respect your opinion but how likely you think it is that he fails to deliver, whereas with Sancho everyone seems to guarantee 100% success. Players of Messi's calibre do not become shit overnight. He has shown consistency at a level never seen hitherto. And PL is not as strong as we rate it to be.
Are you willing for OT to be renamed the Chevrolet Arena?Full muppet mode here any chance we get Messi and Sancho?

They could name it Woodward’s wood for all I care! Are you willing for OT to be renamed the Chevrolet Arena?

If the revenue he brings in is so significant, I cannot fathom a scenario where Woodie being who he is, isn’t exploring all options to bring Messi in. Question is, would he come here?
He's a baseball player? I thought he was a hockey player. :-)Well which baseball player should we speaking about?

Agreed, but I can’t stop thinking about them both! Help!No chance in hell.
One of them would be an incredible outcome.

If Messi didn't work out, we'd be left with a Sanchez situation all over again.
Anyway, there's no way we're getting him! He'll be oil club bound.
Imagine being Koeman now hell of an introductionKoeman though. What an absolute idiot.
He's basically a no mark and he's come in and upset the best player of all time to the degree that he wants to terminate his contract.
This is worse than Clough at Leeds level of misjudging your position.
We’ve a punchers chance I think.Don't know. If we offered him the same wages, maybe.
Still have a hard time seeing him come to the Prem.
Agreed, but I can’t stop thinking about them both! Help!
Koeman’s the clear out fall guy. He’s there for this purpose.Yes and hiring Koeman escalated stuff. There was a chance he could have stayed if Barca hired another manager. The fact Suarez is backing him on twitter suggests the talk with Koeman didn’t go well.
He is 33 years old

As others and myself have said before... That is waaaaay to simplistic of a way of looking at this. Koeman may be revered by Barca but he s not a one man army.Koeman though. What an absolute idiot.
He's basically a no mark and he's come in, sacked off a load of players and upset the best player of all time to the degree that he wants to terminate his contract.

Ehh...? This isn't necessarily a good thing, it's hurting Barca. They couldn't cope with the opponent's physicality anymore in big CL games.Koeman’s the clear out fall guy. He’s there for this purpose.
For him, he wants to assert his authority,
Yes I know. A player like Rooney was way passed his best at his age. Messi isn’t Rooney. He’s clearly looked after himself and is still immense.
He already is showing signs of being arguably the best free kick taker there’s been. Passing the ball in a way Pirlo and Scholes would have been proud of. He’s capable of being a top player by adjusting his game to suit his age. He’s already a master of pacing himself. Watch him off the ball. He conservés energy for his bursts of pace when dribbling.
This is why he couldn’t play in Pep’s system. He does not defend, he does not hold the shape of a team who high press, he’s adjusting his game and a team needs to be built around him. Pirlo was destroying teams at 37 week in week out, as he made the ball do the work. Messi is adjusting. He’ll be at the top until the same age.
