Lionel Messi

If the revenue he brings in is so significant, I cannot fathom a scenario where Woodie being who he is, isn’t exploring all options to bring Messi in. Question is, would he come here?

We’re in a position to build the team around him, as we don’t have a clear identity to our play yet. Also the likes of Bruno, Pogba, Martial and Rashford sound quite attractive as a fast, creative supply chain.

Well at least if he went to City we would finally get the answer to whether or not he can do it in another league

Wait, people actually think he’ll move this time? I’ll believe it when I see it, but _if_ he’s on the move, we should throw everything we have in his direction. Messi, Sancho, Thiago and Ramos. Just get it done, Woodie, you cheapskate.

I think we should absolutely try.

This is a Woodward signing if there has ever been one.

imagine the fecking shirt sales and merchandising alone. That would probably pay a good chunk of his wage.

We were just joking about this afternoon and now he's really leaving. Crazy.

He would really suit our current team. The undisputed number 1 in the team. Young and hungry team around him that would love to play with him. Different ballgame at PSG (Neymar, Mbappe), Juve (CR7) and some other clubs.

Messi's following Chelsea on Insta. Not sure if he already followed them before though.

That's probably not remotely true. Juventus had been in 2 of the previous 4 finals in the CL and had won about 8 leagues on the bounce when Ronaldo joined - PSG 1 final and nothing else remotely close and 3 titles on the bounce, and his arrival would lead to a similar boom that Serie A got from Juventus thus this seasons much stronger but still ending up predictable race.

They lost the final by one goal a matter of days ago. They walk the league and don’t seem to suffer from fatigue in Champs League because of it. They’d have a front 3 of Neymar, Messi and Mbappé - hardly a preposterous shout that he’d have a good chance of the champions league with them.

I sincerely hope the rumours regarding our interest are crap.

It would really be a disastrous move for us to go for Messi. Pretty much the worst decision since SAF left, maybe ever. It sends exactly the signal we tried to distance us from in the recent past: that we're a haven for washed up stars looking for a final paycheck.

Of course 'washed up' doesn't really apply to Messi (yet). But it will, sooner rather then later, and then we're stuck with another has been that we pay 400k+ per week. We just managed to get rid of Sanchez and now we want to make the same mistake again?

Also, Messi is notorious for undermining pretty much every manager he comes across, I really don't think that spells success for Ole's already questionable regime.

Lastly, I am not convinced he can hack it in the PL now with 33. Earlier in his career, I think he would have succeeded, but I just don't think he has the drive anymore to prove himself in a tougher league. Also, I don't see him putting up with the likes of Lingard et al.

He is/was the best player on the planet for a considerable amount of years, but now the only way he's going is down imo. Additionally, he would cost about the same as Sancho over the years, even if we get him on a free, with Sancho being on the up. I know which one I would prefer.

Please, please stay away.

Wow! Well that was a short-lived saga! Amazing example of player power.
I bet Koeman gets sacked next. Shortest managerial stint in history. Before he even walks through the door he'll get thrown out like Jazz in fresh Prince.

Think it's because a fax counts a legal document, but an email doesn't.

Something like that anyway.

I email legal documents as scanned attachments all the time. We discontinued our fax line about 7 years ago. We execute large multi year Contracts through email all the time. Of course only on the Caf could a discussion about signing Messi turn into a debate about the merit of faxes!

Christ I'd hate it if we signed Messi. His work rate looks terrible these days plus he's 33 and would cost a horrific wage we'd be unable to offload.

Hate it.

That’s the spirit.
