Even if they keep Suarez, if/when Messi alone leaves it'll hurt them more than Sir Alex leaving United. Yeah they have some excellent players, but don't underestimate his impact. They'll drop out of the top 4 without him, if only for a year until they figure out life without him. With him they compete for every title and make it pretty far in the CL regularly. And that'll be the case for whatever team has Messi basically.

If Messi leaves then Suarez is gone too.

Koeman already told Suarez to go. That is one of the reasons Messi is angry with how Koeman dealt with him and Suarez.

Have we had any hilarious social media madladz at the helm of Luton Town or Macclesfield declare that they will not be signing Messi yet? That’ll be hilarious when that happens.

Mahomes is one of the the future stars of the NFL but their biggest star by far up is Tom Brady. Not even a debate. When Brady will announce his retirement it will be on prime time in every news station in the whole North America.

Kansas has won one SB in with one of the best offensive lines in memory. Their QB is great but let’s not forget they probably had one of the leagues best TE and WR, not to forget that their whole rooster was stacked with talents.

Messi will end up in PSG or maybe Italy. Imagine Messi in Napoli...
Correct
Brady= Messi
Mahomes =Mbappe or Sancho

I still can't imagine the sight of Messi at another European club. And it's too early to return to Argentina. Is he really trying to leave or just force elections?

How badly does this hurt Barcelona? Seems like they'll be losing Suarez and Messi in the same window, and without the latter especially they suddenly look quite ordinary.
Well they'll still have quite a bit of talent in attack left in Griezmann, Fati and Dembele. Their midfield and defence are a shambles but I think they'd be ok for now in attack even eithout Suarez or Messi

Imagine being so famous that asking to leave makes footballing world of social media explode.

Anyone saying no to a potential deal with Messi is surely on a wind up.
Yeah we have pressing issues elsewhere, but to turn down the chance of getting the greatest player alive right now is insane.
On a free potentially too.
He’s not free! Would cost more than £120m for 2 years with no resale.

Wages, fees ... it’s all money.

Can’t imagine him coming here but you can dream, he’s still got 2-3 years of magic left in him in the right team.

They are 33. They are legends, unforgettable. We can put all the possible adjectives but this moment had to arrive sooner or later.
The problem is that while Madrid got 100 for Cristiano they will let him go for free, and they will have to pay to get rid of Suárez.

It is also a very ugly exit , the captain leaving after a 2-8
In addition, instead of giving the responsibility to someone on the board, or Abidal's replacement, they have put Koeman in a difficult situation

Hes trying to force a change but I think he'll follow through if the board doesn't change shit (as in the president resigning which is a big ask).

I am curious. How United fans stand about this? Our fan base is obssessed with long term options and think that players over 30 are finished. Plus he would cost a fortune. But on other hand, this is best player of all time so...
Mods, just for fun, maybe poll?
I’d honestly prefer Sancho

This started before Koeman... so not a great of logic in these Koeman rumours, the coach rarely has a say in the players at Barca anyway, unless you have serious clout.

How likely do you think it is that Messi actually leaves?

Another bonus will be that Messi will also become a de facto DoF, so our transfer business may improve. He will be just sending requests to Woodward to sign this or that player

 Was just mupperty.

Thinking about it properly i don’t think it’s our best move forwards.

It might not be. But would be disgusting seeing him in a City shirt.

Logical move would be Sancho. But something inside me ones to see one of the best in our shirt.

Would not blame the club for trying. It would be crazy not to, but I hope they not too invested in it as we wasted a lot of time with players from Barca and Madrid using us to get what they want.

Understand that,
But with no initial upfront payment other that a potential signing on fee it is easier to swallow, especially given the extra revenue having Messi would ultimately bring.

If he leaves, as long as he doesn't join City, it'd be fine.

Don't want to see him in a City shirt.

Oh defo. Who wouldn't love to see Messi in a United shirt but obviously the exact opposite of the direction we're supposed to be heading in, massive wages, twilight of career, used to the club revolving around him etc. Sancho every day of the week.

No Mahomes is the current number one star. Brady is the arguable goat but he isn't the main star or the current image of the sport.

Ed, Suarez and Busquets necesitan dinero

Just try to imagine added commercial revenue for the club if it happens. Tens of millions of Messi shirts sold weekly, new sponsors in a queue to Woodward offices, etc. Share price will skyrocket

Eh? Koeman had a meeting with Suarez and told him to go. Messi was probably leaving, but this has escalated stuff. Koeman also told Messi privileges are over.

How likely do you think it is that Messi actually leaves?
Right now, 95%. The theory of "I will threaten so Bartomeu will leave" would not be logical either.
It would show what has always been said, that he has too much power, and he is too old to have it.
It also comes from a direct confrontation with Koeman, it goes beyond a problem with the board.

Would you hate it when he fired us to a league title and another 50 goals?
Completely loaded question. I can do the same to you and say 'Would you love it if he didn't one-man team us to a league title, scored 7 goals all season due to a mixture of different team, different environments, different countries and a language barrier?' Of course you wouldn't.

I'm just not on board with this at all. Think it would be preposterous move. I apologise that this annoys people.

Actually not sorry.

People saying no to Messi  He may only have 2-3 years left at the top but he will almost guarantee us some top trophies in that time. He is still statistically the most efficient player in Europe, playing in a very underwhelming Barca team. People will really see how shite that team is without him in it when he leaves imo

To be the only club that had Ronaldo and Messi in the side would be huge for us in attracting the next generation of fans

Imagine Koeman getting sacked and Bartomeu stepping down. Can't wait for the movie: The Damned Blaugrana.

Understand that,

No where does it say that any potential buyer has to pay him that much either. So who knows. Bet he’d still cost a fair whack.

Part of me is like it’s Messi. Just imagine him on the right with Martial and Rashford then another part of me is like but then Sancho makes more sense.

Would love to see Messi turn out for us but probably not going to happen. See PSG written all over this.

I just find it hard to imagine Koeman is unilaterally calling these kinds of shots in a club as large and political and Barca.
He's being used by the Barca board as the messenger. Not his shots.

No but Koeman has that sort of brash personality that rubs people up the long way. Just like Van Gaal. Messi needs someone like Ole to give him a hug and say it will be ok.

I respect your opinion but how likely you think it is that he fails to deliver, whereas with Sancho everyone seems to guarantee 100% success. Players of Messi's calibre do not become shit overnight. He has shown consistency at a level never seen hitherto. And PL is not as strong as we rate it to be.

That literally doesn't mean he made the decision(because well he didn't) - these were reported before Koeman even came up.
