Lets laugh at Liverpool

I quite dislike those "let's laugh at..." threads. They are infantile.

Was it you who said this when I was in the newbies and inspired me to start a "Let's all laugh at Treble" thread?

Could this shocking accusation against Liverpool FC be true? Let’s hope so! | Liverpool-Kop

According to beloved ex-Manchester United defender Gary Neville, Liverpool deliberately tried to ‘deprive’ Man United of the title in 2010 by ‘easing off’ against Chelsea at the tail-end of Premier league season.

At the time, Liverpool and Man United both had 18 league titles apiece, and a victory over Chelsea would’ve handed United the advantage in the race for the title. Alas, Liverpool sadly lost the game, and Chelsea went on to deny Alex Ferguson's team a record-breaking 19th title.

In his Column for the Mail on Sunday, Neville argued:

"Some thought it would be a big test for them playing at Anfield with a couple of games to go and the title still up for grabs, but at United we knew that Liverpool would ease off if that meant depriving us of the championship, especially a 19th championship that would take us past their record.

"We'd heard rumours during the week that some Liverpool players had turned round to one of their young lads and said: 'There's not a f****** chance we're going to let United win this league'. I've no idea whether that rumour was true or not, but you could see the game was a nice end-of-season stroll for Liverpool”.

Neville is very clear with his allegation here: Liverpool deliberately conspired to underperform against Chelsea in a bid to stop United winning the title.

It’s a scandalous, nefarious accusation, and being a fan of good conscience and a passionate proponent of fair play and sportsmanship, I can only say with all sincerity that I hope this detestable behaviour DID take place, and the rumour is 100% TRUE.

As Liverpool fan, there is arguably nothing sweeter than seeing Man United deprived of trophies. In the words of Steven Taylor:

"It’s one of life’s legitimately sublime experiences; it’s so utterly…complete".

Amen.

I also have it on good authority that the rumour to which Neville referred is true. (Well said, Carra!). And who can forget Steven Gerrard's sublime, inch-perfect assist for Didier Drogba's goal?

Beautiful football on so many levels.

A clearly wounded Neville further added:

"It didn't say much for Liverpool."

No, but it felt damn good!

Here's to many more years of depriving United of trophies.

Jaimie Kanwar

Good LORD, this is the smallest time thing I've ever read.

Wow......

I mean, he's obviously not talking about denying us trophy's by beating us to them...

It's one thing to resign yourself to, at best, hoping to make our trip to the title harder. To call it the most sublime of experiences....

Oh how I longed for the day when all they would be able to do was celebrate the odd win over us in the league and feck all else.

Fully de-perched those cnuts and you can tell how much it hurts them.

As a united fan who had to live through a large part of Liverpool's glory years, I will savour every single moment that we remain ahead of them. The next target for us has to be getting to 6 European cups while adding further league titles.

 they are without doubt the most deranged collection of feckwits on the planet.

hear hear - never thought, back in those dark days we'd see them suffer like this. Very satisfying.

A couple of points...

There's some small print at the bottom of the article:

"NOTE: To avoid the inevitable misunderstandings: This article is ironic, and tongue-in-cheek - I don't really condone teams underperforming to stop rivals winning. And I definitely do not believe Neville is ' beloved' in any way, shape or form. "

2) The writer of the article is otherwise known as Jaimie Cuntwar. Essentially a complete twat and WUM who likes to be controversial in his views to increase activity on his site. It seems to be working.

I'm more annoyed as I had completely forgotten about him - until that post!

:wenger:

To be fair, the name made it sound like a fan from Indonesia who may not have the exact pulse of the supporters, but I couldn't resist laughing at it.

It's actually good to hear that, no one should be that sad.

Shots at goal today

Liverpool 20
Stoke 3

Kennys going to talk to the board about how unfair it all is.....

..... those in the know expect liverpool to announce that they are taking their ball and going home!

Someone should remind Dalglish that they only beat Arsenal due to two offside decisions. He wasn't crying to the board then was he?

Best way to distract from a shit result and keep the fans onside?

Have a pop at Fergie.

In fairness, he knows what the fans want to hear.

edit - and although there were some bad calls in that game, that went against them, the Stoke peno wasn't one of them.

edit - it actually gets more annoying on a second viewing ... "we can only do what we can do ourselves, sometimes other things are taken outside our jursidiction" what? like henderson and suarez missing one on ones?

Kennys going to talk to the board about how unfair it all is.....

What the hell was Skrtl doing beside not having any vowels in his name? Ridiculous amount of holding/pulling.

Ref was generous to the gits. No red for Carragher - fair enough if they are not going to show red for the 'last man'. Skrtl was a bit of a joke on corners, fair enough if they keep that consistent.

It is funny how things go full circle. When he came back in at Anfield he started by having a go at SAF for having a go at the refs. Now here he is having a go at the refs.

He is going to talk to the owners to get permision to have a go at them some more because if he doesn't it will effect Liverpool football club.

So glad Jones chose us rather than Liverpool. With the shite they have at the back now he'd make a real difference, but it's nice to know they're looking on enviously as he shines down the road for us.

It cracks me up that he is moaning about bad decisions. We've had a loads of crap decisions (Arseshavin and Kevin Davies not being sent off and a few penalties not given) but we are winning game instyle and not struggling like them.

Its just desperation from him because he needs a way to deflect attention from his team.
