Not really. We might need Sane type of player more, but our position in world football suggests we may have to shop in the second hand bins and go for Mane...

Never seen him play but someone has said "right sided Martial" so on that basis we have to go all in.
One of the few positives to come from finishing outside of the CL places is that we'll have time to build a young side without the pressure to match Europe's big sides. Seeing as we're only going for the PL, an inexperienced player like Sane will be more than enough. If we were competing with the likes of Barca/Real/Bayern, we'd probably waste the whole Summer chasing after someone like Griezman. It's always better to build a squad from the ground up. Hopefully we'll be able to do that now.
We bought Shaw and Herrera that Summer. More of the same is what we need. Di Maria and Falcao were huge mistakes, precisely because they weren't suited to the squad/league.Like summer 2014?
I was more thinking about the players we were chasing. Bale Muller EtcWe bought Shaw and Herrera that Summer. More of the same is what we need. Di Maria and Falcao were huge mistakes, precisely because they weren't suited to the squad/league.
If you mean Schalke's Sané (Leroy), I'm not sure if Schalke fans would agree with your assessment.
Since when? I´m sorry but Sane´s defensive contribution is mediocre at best, which is understandable given his age. Infact you normally need a defensively strong FB behind him to balance out the many counters he causes with his often times reckless dribblings. He also does not use his high pace well enough after losing the ball (takes too long to switch to recovering).
Sane is a technically highly talented and fast winger with a lot of flair in his game, which makes him exciting to watch. However he is also still incredibly raw especially in terms of tactics (positioning, off the ball movement) and highly inconsistent in his performances. All that is completely alright for someone in the middle of his development. He would be well advised to stay another year at Schalke and mature as player before making the jump to a big club.
Not sure we should be expecting him to be as good as Martial. At least not from the get-go. But he's a seriously talented youngster. And one who, to me, appears to have a skillset very well suited to the Premier League.
I think we'd need to add one more, maybe a more experienced attacking midfielder/winger, to the team, as well. Just Sane would again see us pinning a lot of our hopes on a big potential young signing as we did with Memphis. These players usually deserve a bit of time. Plus, only Martial is performing from wide areas, so IMO two attacking midfielders are required.Yeah, agree. Tough for a kid to come into a dysfunctional attack and hit the ground running. Martial was an exception.
I reckon he should stay another year but having him, Martial and Rashford led by Ibra in our attack has an almost Cantona '96 feel to it
How is his attitude/work ethic?
Let's face it, our scouting department just love a good trip out. They don't actually watch any players, they just go for the craic.
Doesn't matter how many times someone tweets that we've been watching them, someone else will swoop in having seen them once and buy them.
Scouts dont decide or make signings, Are you saying our scouts dont send a report back?
Thanks. The right attitude and work ethic are very important in a young top class talent, and a key factor in Martial adapting so quickly here. On the other hand, we have Memphis who said a lot of right things before the move but it turned out to be a bunch of BS. His attitude and body language on the field have been very poor. Good to know that Sane is humble and has stayed out of trouble. Being inconsistent at his age is natural.Well, there was an instance in march 2015 (Sané already debuted for the main squad by then) when he really dissapointed in Schalke´s U19 (was subbed off after half an hour) and Schalke´s youth development guru Norbert Elgert got pretty furious with him and another talent describing his talents as "brutally overhyped and overrated".
That being said, the German magazine "11 Freunde" ran a big story on him one year later and there he was described by every person as humble and down to earth so the before mentioned action and statement by Elgert was more about taking him down a notch (something he likes to do) that seemed to work in the long run.
His work ethic is decent, although he tends to still disappear a lot of times.
Strange to think before the season we were hearing about how Memphis has a very good attitude in trying to become the best and that Martial could be lazy....just goes to show...Thanks. True, I remember all the talk about Memphis being "hungry" to become the best and all that crap. I don't think there was anything on Martial's work ethic but he obviously appears to have a lackadaisical attitude on the surface although his effort level and performances prove to the contrary.Strange to think before the season we were hearing about how Memphis has a very good attitude in trying to become the best and that Martial could be lazy....just goes to show...

Just out of interest, is he sponsored by Adidas too? Almost every pic is in Adidas gear.
I remember it too. Saying he turns up last to training and stuff.Definitely remember reading a quote questioning Martials work ethic when he signed. Any one else remember or did I imagine it?
