If we take £42m as the fee is there a world in which we sign De Ligt and York for combined £84m which is around what Everton were saying it would take for Branthwaite?

Nice to see we've completed another deal. Surely there will be another CB coming in with Lindelof leaving.

Yoro, Martinez, Maguire, de Ligt + Evans looks better than what we had last season.

It's interesting that no other clubs came in for him in the end.

brother...

If Real Madrid want him, he will go to Real Madrid. Same with pretty much any player in history.

United just being used to get Madrid to pay up.

PSG and Liverpool also interested according to Ben Jacobs.

PSG can easily match the fee and wages. They will also give him the opportunity to play Champions league football every season in his home country.

He's an 18 year old French lad, he'd almost definitely pick PSG over English clubs.

If they pull out he will have options from clubs that can offer Champions League football.

the idea that it's a straight choice between Madrid or United is for the birds.

Liverpool fans on Rawk are trying to convince each other that Quansah is better.

Yeah, they are drinking some strong copium over there today.
  • We were not in for him - Turns out, they were, they simply gave up assuming he was Real bound, and did not even try harder
  • We can not give him an eyewatering(exact phrase) salary of £175 - Turns out, he is on £114k
  • Quansah is better than him - It remains to be seen
  • We have a massive squad, we don't need him - Konate is a sick note, VVD is not getting younger
  • He will break our wage structure - Turns out, he won't
  • We don't pay such a huge fee for young players - Caicedo and Lavia say hi
  • They found out he is on £114k - Wow, that's obscene for a teenager
Some of those posters are the gift that keeps on giving.

“Quansah is better than him”

From the same lads who’ll still tell you Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliot are better than Mainoo.

brother...

Maybe ask yourself why other clubs decided not to get involved and why Madrid weren't prepared to pay more than £20 million?

He could turn out to be 'the new rio ferdinand'

He could just as easily be 'the new Harry Maguire'

Is it really 42m rising to 52 with add-ons? Luckhurst in the mud. That's a great deal and much better value for money than Branthwaite.

Is he someone who can play a high line? Feel like that’s the most important thing for our style of play.

the cope on this transfer
noun
noun: cope; plural noun: copes
a long, loose cloak worn by a priest or bishop on ceremonial occasions.
TECHNICAL•LITERARY
a thing resembling or likened to a cloak.
"the outer shell of clay is called the cope"

Can we stop this Twitter / Reddit shit or whatever it is?

Does he speak English? Imagine it being hard enough for an 18 year old kid moving country and being asked to slot into a massive club and a new & better league straight away, without the added complication of a language barrier

With Martial gone who's going to welcome the man? I guess Amad speaks french, who else? Onana?

Ornstein agrees with Luckhurst, and he seems to be regarded as the most reliable journalist on United news by far. It's just being memory-holed because people like the lower number better. €62m, up to €70m. So, £52m -> £59m.

The whole Everton thing is a joke, TBF to them not like they have made a statement about it, it is all just journo BS, but depending on what reports you read, we have offered on par or less than was offered for Branthwaite, they decided it was not enough for their valuation of the player, we were not obliged to offer more and went elsewhere, there is an expression "buyer's remorse" I think Everton have "non-seller's remorse" they gambled that we would be the same old Utd who with tunnel vision end up over paying for a player, I hope this is evidence that we as a club have turned a corner and will force other clubs to rethink their perceptions on how we conduct business

As an Englishman and a fan or football in general I hope Branthwaite goes on to have a good season (just not against us) and continues to develop, but in reality I am not convinced that he is ever a £70m player (inflation aside)

cope being a verb has nothing to do with twitter or reddit or whatever

Luckhurst getting community noted on this post, the complete helmet. You love to see it.

Here's the article mentioned in the Community Note: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5626457/2024/07/17/leny-yoro-manchester-united-transfer/

As per David Ornstein:

The 18-year-old decided on Tuesday night to join United in a transfer with a maximum valuation of €70million, which includes add-ons.

An agreement between the clubs on an initial €62m (£52m; $67.9m) fee was reached last week — however Yoro still needed to accept the switch at that stage.

When Utd signs a player they report the price including add-ons and his next three contracts + agent fees, etc. Every other team just gets the base price reported in the headline.

You used it as a noun. As did the plonker saying copium or whatever it was. But that's nice, it's awful anyway, makes you sound like a youtuber.

Should have linked to Romano and the initial report of the agreed deal from Nabil Djellit. Ornstein also looks to have got the price on this wrong.

Or, alternatively, Romano and co got it wrong. In any case, there should obviously not be any Community Note at all.
