Kobbie Mainoo (out)

Yeah kick us whilst we're down why don't you. It's just a terrible time for him to be playing hard ball on wages, he needs to drop the demands and actually start performing as if he deserves them.

Mainoo 70 million
Garnacho 60 million
Rashford 40 million
Lindelof free
Evans free
Heaton free

Bar 1-2 loans (Antony perhaps) I can’t see anymore leaving . Our squad is thread bare and I’m not sure how much of that we will get to spend due to our financial state.

(we won’t be able to move Casemiro )
I’d be surprised if we did sell Mainoo also
Honestly, as difficult as it would be to sell three academy players, I do think this is the only path I see which would enable a true and total rebuild. That's £170M in pure profit for PSR purposes.

Endrick is 18 and won't be on those wages for long, irrespective of whatever deal he's currently on. As for Mainoo, you're paying for the future. Just just as clubs pay a lot for young players to transfer, the wages are going to follow a similar model.
You pay for the future if you have some degree of confidence or something to fall back on by way of expecting you'd realise that talent beyond reasonable doubt.

Endrick joined what, this year? Hell have at least two seasons with Real before they reward him with a new deal. No club is going to offer Mainoo £180k a week after 9 months of football. That's insane. It's also why I take the reports with a pinch of salt as there won't be any suitors for that packet bar maybe Chelsea who will do their extra long contracts.

If mainoo is happy making ridiculous demands at this age I honesty wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to Saudi.
If the article is true, think it's more a case of making big demands to stay at United because of the mess we are in, as the "sporting/career reasons" to stay at the club are very minimal for any player at this moment. Every club needs a draw to make the player want to stay or come, a manager that doesn't altogether rate him that highly or where he doesn't fit naturally into his system combined with a 14th place league finish while we seem to be just spiraling leaves pretty much just money and the heart strings as a reason for him or anyone to stay.

You're not making any sense - most the posts are only suggesting selling him *if* he isn't budging from 180k a week. There's no 'new' information that makes this sentiment unreasonable. You're just showing a self admitted bias because he's from our academy. We've sold from our academy throughout the PL years by the way. It doesn't make us some sellout club.
Not our best ones we haven’t. Kobbie isn’t some average Tom Cleverley or Darron Gibson.

They are a couple of years older, which is why Musiala is making a lot more than 180.
But they’ve a lot more to show for it. The vast majority of that £180k, if accurate, is based on potential.

If true bin him off, he can be replaced with the money. Same goes for Garnacho or anybody else who doesn't want to stay and fight to get this club back to the top.

I honestly thought we might have a longer break before the next angry mob turned on one of our home grown players.

All of this latest furore from one guy (a minor journalist) at The Guardian. An article of “Mainoo might fancy a move abroad”… “United might take opportunity to sell”… maybe, if, could be.

There’s a reason a lot of these type of articles are “exclusive”.
The Guardian don’t write things without a fairly robust source, and looks like the player’s camp the way it’s phrased. I.e. work of the agent to force United into giving into the contract demands.

Like Mason Mount?
Mason Mount obviously isn't worth that, you don't make the same mistake twice, do you?

Although, in his best season at Chelsea, Mount did get close to 30 goals and assists combined. If Mainoo had just come off of a season like that, I think the club would be under a lot more pressure to offer him that kind of contract.

I honestly thought we might have a longer break before the next angry mob turned on one of our home grown players.

Yet another example of 'fans' letting the media turn them against our own players.

The sad thing is that once they've decided he has to go, they'll be on his case constantly until he leaves. We've seen it so many times now.

Disappointing if the rumours of the wage demands are true.

If it is, he has to be shown the door.

I don't blame him if he wants to leave for footballing reasons, united is not a great place for young talent to thrive.
This is where I'm at with it. Would be sad to lose him as he's a homegrown talent and has looked class, intermittently. That said, he's not don't enough to command north of 100k pw so if 180k really is a red line for him (big IF) then let him see if he can get that elsewhere, provided we can still make 70 million or more off the deal.

Would rather be stayed, to be clear. I think he's a lovely footballer and, though he's not perfect (lacks physicality, a yard of pace, an engine and tends to drift in and out of games) I do still think he has enormous potential. Whether he goes on to realize that is another question.

If Im one of the younger “stars” Im also asking for a raise to stay. Doesn’t mean he’d get it. But currently this place is in shambles. 15th place, no guarantees for playing time, who knows who the manager will be in a year’s time, depressing backroom where weekly layoffs have f’d the vibes, and fans calling for player’s heads after every loss. Loyalty goes both ways and if he or others go than best of luck elsewhere. Id be sad but we move on.

It's a weird one though. The article doesn't refer to sources close to the player or any of the usual. It just states 'Kobbie is minded to reject the offer of a new contract.'

He's a talented lad and I'd like for him to stay but he isn't a generational talent and has been overhyped ridiculously.

If true, and I say this with a big if, he really is daft. 450 employees are losing their jobs. The club is in financial turmoil, but as an academy player you want to rinse the club and point at the sacked staff? So from a human perspective, this is just terrible from him and his crew. That goes for snyone now claiming such a pay rise btw.

From a foltballing perspective, he hasn’t shown nesrly enough for this. Propose a decent salary with some bonuses. If he eants the fast money, then he may not be the right guy for the club moving forwards.

He’s not going to jump from 20k per week to 180k

My guess is they will find a deal at around 80k with potential for it to grow if he keeps improving

Looking forward to the summer.

It might be utter carnage in the transfer market in terms of ins and outs but it really needs to be done.

Club needs a total reset and a fresh start.

Anyone that is good enough and wants to stay is fine, literally anyone else can leave.

Completely agree!

One of the biggest mistakes we've made over the years is caving in to players demands.

From giving De Gea more than any goalkeeper in world football or the ridiculous contract we gave Alexis Sanchez, paying Mason fecking Mount 250k a week.

Kobbie Mainoo is a very talented player who had some great games for us last season but if he really wants to make massive wage demands at this point in his career then let him go!

One, they do..but two, it’s a nothing article. It’s conjecture, fluffy writing to try and mask a lack of substance. OK, it’s possible his agent dropped a hint about leaving (which might make sense if coming to last year or his contract) but even if that was true, it’s one line of a multi paragraph “story”.

Same as it’s been for years because we sell. Hated, adored, etc.

Me too.

There’s a few I want to stay (Yoro, Dorgu, de Ligt, Amad, Maz (squad player), Ugarte, Bruno, couple of others maybe especially given what they “owe” as a book figure) but the rest… I’m not arsed IF the club get the money they need to reinvest and do it wisely. Get 2-4 first team players and start blending in some youth.

Club > any player. Any.
