Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

He was always a quite static, none too pacy striker whose greatest asset was his finishing. That was enough to make him a superstar in the Dutch league but he got found out on the highest level.

I never wanted him and it would make no sense to buy him now.

He's bait for Sneijder![/muppet]

Replace Berbatov with Huntelaar?

No thanks.

I'm not saying we should sell Berba and replace with Klaas. Just saying if Berbatov was sold this summer Klaas would be a decent option to sign as a 3rd striker.

He hasn't even impressed that much at Schalke, has he? To be fair when I opened this thread I thought he would be linked with Galatasaray or Zenit, not us.

trouble is, he has been going downhill, from when we were interested in him.

I doubt a striker is what Fergie is after tbh since we do have options there even if Berba goes.

I was referring to the article to be honest.

We'd lose a fair bit of creativity if we replaced Berbatov with Huntelaar.

His assets were his finishing and his movement primarily. Frankly with chicharito, huntelaar would be nothing but a backup - not much point signing him at this stage

We absolutely are in need of a central playmaking midfielder and not a striker and certainly not Huntelaar.

Isn't this rumour on Football365 or Caughtoffside, hardly reliable sources.
Footylatest and it's been dismissed by most on Twitter as being complete rubbish.

Also

11:34 Hmm. What do you do if you can't sign Dutch trequartista Wesley Sneijder? Well, you go for his centre forward compatriot, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, of course. That's according to Footylatest.com, who tip the Reds to make a £15million bid for Schalke's 27-year-old after being priced out of a move for the Inter playmaker. Excuse me while I clean the tea from my monitor.

Huntelaar struggled after an initial glut of form for Schalke. £15 million? Big club? Yeah right

He's always been underrated on the caf. Had he not moved to Madrid and come to us or another club that knows what it is doing, he may well be regarded as one of europes top strikers - not a complete player by any means, but that has never stopped the likes of RVN, Owen, Eto'o etc. Couldve definitely done a job for us along with Rooney and berbatov as our strike force (not all at the same time) - decent holdup play and good in the air, and we have seen with hernandez the impact of a striker with lethal movement and finishing, imagine we had it a few years ago when we were struggling for goals and over-reliant on a Rooney who I regard as being played out of position as an out-and-out striker.

He's always been overrated, he'd never have made it here, he's not like Ruud, Owen or Eto'o - all have more to their game than he does. He doesnt have decent holdup play and he is nothing at all like Hernandez. He has good movement but its slow and even if Rooney was "out of position" he was still about 10 times as effective as a front man than Huntelaar is

I remember having this same 'discussion' about 2-3 years ago in this very thread, not much else to add from what I said then.

Even if Berbatov was sold, we should just give Welbeck or Macheda a chance instead. Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck, Owen, Macheda would be good enough. No need for Huntelaar or any other striker.

According to Footylatest.com, United have “given up” on signing Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder and will instead focus their attentions on his fellow Dutch international Huntelaar.

They value Huntelaar at £20 million and suggest the striker will be sorely tempted by the carrot of Champions League football next season—with Schalke having failed to qualify.

If he makes the move to Old Trafford Huntelaar will be running out of European top clubs to play for. He’s already turned out for PSV, AC Milan, Real Madrid and Ajax. And he’s still only 27.

And with Dimitar Berbatov continually linked to a move away from United, it might just happen.

Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger could be subject to a £30 million bid from Manchester United, if we are to believe what they write at Caughtoffside.com.

According to this article, United have turned their attentions to the German international after attempts to sign several other midfielders evaporated.

Luka Modric and Wesley Sneijder are among the players linked to United this summer, as Sir Alex Ferguson seeks to strengthen the side he led to a record 19th Premier League title last summer.

United have already spent over £50 million on Ashley Young, Phil Jones and David De Gea, but with Paul Scholes now retired Ferguson is widely thought to have made a central midfielder a priority.

Schweinsteiger is 26 and under contract at Bayern, but there is talk United could offer Dimitar Berbatov as part exchange.

Is it not time to admit your mistake?

:boring:
You are WUMming up the wrong tree, but I will humur you.
My stance then was that IF huntelaar joined the right side he would emerge as one of europes top strikers. Instead he went to Madrid and didn't get that much of a chance as they then decided they wanted to usher in the next wave of galacticos. His record for Madrid is good, especially considering he above, but it didn't really help advance him as a player.

That's as much as I will write until I believe that you have any interest in an actual discussion - which is unlikely from what I have seen.

Final pointer though - I don't think we should sign him at present.

When he was at Ajax I was very much in favour of us signing him. Not anymore though.

Playing the season of his life and his statistics for this (young) season are quite something:

15 matches - 18 (!) goals for Schalke!

He's a limited player outside the box technically, but once the ball drops to him inside, he'll tuck it away.

To call him ""sh*t" does him a disservice; when it comes to knowing where the net is, he's one of the best.

However, in modern football, that's not enough. Players need to be able to interchange in their roles at the highest level. Look at Rooney - Ronaldo - Saha/Tevez in 06/07 and 07/08, and the difference in play once Van Nistelrooy (one of the very best out-and-out strikers in history, as his record shows) left the club. Better still, look at modern day Barcelona, with Villa, Messi and insert-third-player-here chopping and changing their positions to great effect.

Out-and-out strikers are becoming less valuable as a commodity. You've got to have more to your name than that, be it that you're lightning quick (Hernandez, Benzema, Eto'o), ridiculously creative (Rooney, Van Persie, Aguero) or perhaps a talent as yet unseen (telekinetic?).
