Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

Some good deals for your team if you manage to pull this and the Sahin loan deal off.

This season might still be 1 or 2 seasons too early to push for a top 4 though.

Could work really well in a front 3 with Suarez and Borini on either side - Liverpool are crying out for a finisher. Only question would be how much he can contribute outside the area - but think he could work in the system Rodgers seems to be implementing.

He plays Champions League with Schalke this year - why should he want to go for a club that does not?

Schalke right now has a very promising team (even if they still stand a little in the shadow of Dortmund and Bayern) - why should he leave for something called Liverpool...

Who is Suarez and Borini if you have Draxler, Holtby and Farfan behind you? And sometimes with Teemu Pukki...

But I mean that really? Why should somebody change to Liverpool who constantly plays in international competitions right now? He was second best scorer in the Europa League last year...

And I bet his national coach is more interested into the German League than into the EPL...

That'd be an excellent signing for them. He's exactly what they need.

Because we are a much bigger club than Schalke, in a bigger league and can pay him more

fecks sake.

Would be a great signing for Liverpool - someone that can actually score consistently.

Rodgers is building a nice looking team to be fair.

Money? Prestige? Attention? Like it or not, Liverpool are a bigger club than Schalke, have a more prestigious history, and can pay more.

Borini might not be a big draw, but Suarez and Gerrard are both big names.

As long as he's playing at the top level every week I doubt his national coach gives a shit what league he's playing in.

All of which is besides the point - I never said he would want to go to Liverpool, just said that he's exactly the kind of player they need.

More money, better league. Simple as that.

Meh used to be, they have a much bigger stadium and currently a better squad than Liverpool. They play regular champions league football and i am sure are in decent financial shape. Liverpool arent that big or special anymore no harm to you.

Some of your lot really are way too eager to overplay the 'not a big club' line. Deluded.

Its not deluded. I dont see anything apart from money, and you couldnt even out bid Spurs in wages for Gylfi ffs, that would make him leave CL football with a good team for Liverpool. Sorry you can't live on long past glories these days when attracting players its not the 80's anymore.

That's because you're being wilfully stupid then.

Because we chose not to. Just outbid Arsenal on wages for Sahin.

Of course can we can. You are just too much in love with the idea of us not being a big club anymore to see it.

Liverpool will always be a big club per se (IMO bigger than Schalke albeit Schalke certainly arent shit neither), they have a huge rep behind them, but and its a very big but, a big club they may be ''but'' fighting for the big honours they are not.

In the Deloitte Football Money League

9. FC Liverpool 203,3 England
10. FC Schalke 04 202,4 Deutschland

they are pretty close... - the figures are from 2010/11

And I think that for an international star participation in one of the European competitions is far more important than EPL or Bundesliga... especially as he is from the Netherlands where I can imagine that more people watch Bundesliga than Premier League - especially as some of the stadiums in Germany are very near to the border.

And the wage gap would really have to be extremely big if you include that he right now lives in his hometown and travels to Schalke each day - what is about an hour to drive. He has family - for him that is more than convenient... His kids can go to schools in the Netherlands, can visit Grandma and Grandpa each day...

Schalke was in the quarter finals of last years Europa League and in the semi finals of CL the year before. What is it that Liverpool can offer? Carling Cup? A run for 6 th or 7th?

I do not know if he would get weak if a European top club would approach him again (after he has failed twice) - but why change to a club without any ambitions? Liverpool certainly is not a top club anymore. It is a club with tradition - but believe me - Schalke is that, too.

I know that you all get told by Sky that the EPL is center of heaven - but last season it really did not look like it and there is good football outside of the EPL, too.

Whether we like it or not Liverpool are a massive club. Some proper shite is being said in this thread.

Liverpool are multiple European Cup winners, they're a much bigger club than Schalke. Besides even today Liverpool's squad is better quality wise.

I am not denying your history, I just dont see why KJH leaves Schalke for Liverpool. Sahin yes he is desperate for a game.

Because Liverpool are a bigger club with great history playing in a better league and probably have better players as well.

Schalke's participance in CL is overrated. Players care about that mostly when they know that their club can win the thing. Schalke won't win CL, they can take part and have a few exciting games but that's about it. As a matter of fact they're unlikely to win the league in the next few years as well seeing as Dortmund and Bayern are both far better and Schalke haven't won the league since 1958.

If true ,good signings for the dippers.May have a a chance of fifth now.

There's no clear favourite for 4th so they might have an outside chance. Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal should occupy remaining two places in top 4 but Liverpool and Newcastle do have an outside chance.

Wait, there's only one newspaper in holland saying this. Also not sure if Liverpool will pay 16m on a 29yr old, considering their "moneyball" strategy.

Yes they have an outside chance , but i feel that this may be a transitional season for the dippers.

And Liverpool can win it?

No, they can't. But that's not a thing that will sway it in either direction, he's unlikely to refuse a move to Liverpool because Schalke happen to play in CL.

Liverpool are simply a bigger club, that's what should convince him. Very few clubs in Europe are held in the same esteem.

The German league is at least second, close to moving above La Boring Liga in quality. Their teams have really improved and the atmosphere in most stadiums is better than ours.

And most players don't care about the history of a club unless they support them. I'm baffled when people toss that as a benefit. If I played for any team outside of United, the history of the club wouldn't push my decision either way. It's what they do now and what their future looks like.

And a Liverpool fan throwing that out there is a laugh when the last twenty years has been mediocre. "Well Klaas, twenty years ago we were class. And we'll get there again!" "And you say Adam and Downing and Cole will provide me excellent service?" "Absolutely."

KJH failed at the elite level teams that he played for, but has been a great success at the B-level clubs - Liverpool will be a good fit for him.

lol at people thinking EPL is so shit. Probably live under a rock last 5-10 years.

What absolute bollocks. The PL is light years ahead of the German league.

Why? Because Sky Sports said so!

The German league is in the top 3 in Europe and not a great deal behind the Premier League.

Both leagues scored the same coefficients in European football last year. Obviously that needs to be sustained, but it's indicative of a league heading in the right direction.

at his age he isnt going to swap CL football for an also ran team in England that won't offer him that much more than he makes in Germany.

In what way? The ONLY way I can think of is in international popularity. But in terms of player pool, money, support, attendance, competitiveness, etc, they are creeping up very quickly.

L'Equipe saying Arsenal are close to agreeing terms with him as his contract runs down at Schalke so the fee will be around 5 million euros. Apparently L'Equipe were on the money about Giroud and Cazorla in the summer early too.

Yet another player who could've been so much more signing for Arsenal.

Aye, was regarded as one of the best goalscorers in Europe a few years ago. I think he made a mistake moving to Madrid though you can understand why he did it. It was around then and before we bought Berbatov that I wanted him here and was confident he would've been a hit.

Can't see him being a great signing for Arsenal in all honesty. He suits a more direct style of play rather than what the gunners do. Either way would be good to see him in the EPL, he has never been reliant on pace so he will probably still have a few years left in him.
