Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

Huntelaar is not a complete striker and I dont think anyone would have claimed otherwise. What he does, he does well, he is a traditional #9 with great finishing and great movement, not unlike our own chicharito - although he obviously trades off the blistering pace for more strength on the ball and in the air.

A few years ago I said he could have done a job for us and I stand by that - however he is now that bit older and with less scope for improvement. Whilst he may not be a rounded enough player to hold down a regular place for any of the European elite, I think he would be a fantastic player for a Europa league sort of club, around spurs' level.

We will never know what could have been, but I still think had he not signed for Madrid when he did, he could be regarded as a top striker.

Great to see him doing well after a couple of bad moves in his career. Would have been a great signing for United earlier on in his career. I must admit I wanted us to sign him over Tevez (2007) and Berbatov (2008).

Seconded

I think the last three seasons have caused a major setback for him. He was good and getting better and then he went to Madrid and till this season, he just sucked. I agree though, if he had come to United four to five years ago, he would be doing very well for us.

Liverpool should have gone for him instead of spending all that money on Carrol. Very good finisher.

Cracking season so far by Huntelaar... should be good to watch who's gonna end up as top scorer, because Gomez is scoring for fun as well.

Huntelaar: 34 goals in 54 games since the start of last season (21 in 19 this season)
Gomez: 55 goals in 61 games in the same period (16 in 16 this season)

I think Gomez will score around 35 in the league alone this year, Bayern are just a cut above the rest.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar link to Manchester United rubbished by Schalke | Metro.co.uk

The Red Devils were reportedly keen on the Dutch ace, and there was even suggestion they would be willing to offer Dimitar Berbatov as a makeweight in any deal.

However, Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has rubbished reports the forward could be set for an exit, and insists there’s been no contact with Sir Alex Ferguson or anyone else.

‘Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is under contract at Schalke and he is a first-team regular at our club,’ Heldt told BILD.

‘We have no ambition to transfer him. He is showing top standard performances this season and it is pretty much usual those performances are getting noticed by top-quality clubs.

‘At this moment we have not received any offer for the services of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from any club.’

The 28-year-old former AC Milan and Real Madrid hitman has 10 Bundesliga goals this term, and is under contract until 2013 with the German outfit.

So, who actually "linked" him with us? Given that there is no mention of either us, or Berbatov in that quote?

If there was any sort of player we really didn't need right now, it'd probably be a Huntelaar.

Ace? He's done nothing since signing for Madrid, we wouldn't need him even if Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez and Welbeck were all injured.

Edit: And if he's scoring goals this season, all that has happened is he has found his level and it certainly isn't Premier League level. He'd even struggle to get into Spurs' team.

It's probably not a coincidence that he's rediscovered his form at a second/third-tier club though.

While thats true, another club looking to become a top club (Spurs for example) will probably take a chance on him if he keeps this up

ha, this is one of those rumors that just doesn't die...we wanted him years ago so obviously we're still after him.

what's next? SAF makes a move for Gattuso? How about Batistuta or Lillian Thuram, I bet you they're still available.

I stand by what I said in october. Had he not signed for Madrid when he did, Huntelaar could be regarded as one of the top strikers in Europe.

He is like Hernandez, but trading off the blistering speed for more of a physical presence. Had we signed him when I originally wanted to, ie instead of Berbatov (an opinion which I was much criticised for, and yet here we are with Berbatov being shown the door. Hehe.) he would've done a good job for us as a 3rd striker. When you look at the impact an out and out striker like Hernandez (and to a lesser extent, Owen) had when brought into the team, it a pretty simple conclusion to draw that Huntelaar would have made a similar sort of impact, playing with Rooney behind him he would've banged in the goals.

Too late now however, we don't need another striker IMO. One of Owen or Macheda will stay and be our backup option should we need it, and we should instead focus on bringing in someone like Modric who can play both the CM role or act as cover for Rooney in the deeper #10 role.

We already got Hernandez as a goal poacher.

I thought he was doing ok at madrid, but they just seemed to hate the dutch players and kicked them all out? his record was not that bad was it?

I dont have the stats but correct, his goal return was pretty good, which for a player who was still settling into the team and had made a big step up, has to be acknowledged. Madrid simply wanted to rebuild the galacticos and KJH didnt fit that mould - nor did Sneijder, Robben or Van der Vaart, but doesnt mean everyone dismissing any of them as being unable to cut it at the top level.

In my opinion Berbatov's sale is our opportunity to move United towards a new tactical level. Lets face it guys, 4-4-2 is finished at least in Europe. Nowadays its almost impossible to think that a team can seriously compete in the CL with the front men. Therefore by letting Berba go we will free a slot for an midfielder to come in. A 3 CM formation will also allow us to bring new staff (a DM and hopefully an AM) without jeapordizing Clev, Ando and Pogba too much. To conclude I cant see us bring a new forward. We dont need it.

Soooo slow. Very selfish as well. Could see a lot of our attacks finish with him shooting at a defender outside the box. Don't like him. He's at the best level he'll get. Didn't make it at a bigger level in two different countries.

His agent must be taking the piss leaking this story over and over again whenever he wants a new contract.

Disagree with this. Berbatov's sale signals that we still have the blindofld on, and figure that we can get away without having a top quality midfielder, because Rooney will work hard and add cover when we're not in possession.

In regards to Huntelaar, I don't see why he'd be willing to go from top man, to part of our rotation. Considering this story came from caughtoffside, there is probably zero truth in this story anyway.

Because he's at Schalke where he won't win any major trophies and he could be at United where he would most likely win the league at some point and possibly have some European success or at least have a go at it.

He wouldn't be a good buy for us though. If we really want to add more pace and fluidity to our team then getting Huntelaar in is as wrong as it gets.
