Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

He'll be good for Arsenal. He's a strong player who's very efficient in front of goal and his link up play isn't really that poor. At €5m it's a no brainer really, I always felt he'd be best suited to Premier League so at 29 he finally deserves his chance.

More more believable than him signing for Liverpool

At 29 he could do much better than sentence himself to 4-5 years without Champions League football.

Aye, was regarded as one of the best goalscorers in Europe a few years ago. I think he made a mistake moving to Madrid though you can understand why he did it. It was around then and before we bought Berbatov that I wanted him here and was confident he would've been a hit.

Can't see him being a great signing for Arsenal in all honesty. He suits a more direct style of play rather than what the gunners do. Either way would be good to see him in the EPL, he has never been reliant on pace so he will probably still have a few years left in him.

He worked very well together with Raul last year - so I do think that could be the same with Santi Cazorla.

But I think that he needs a special well feeling atmosphere to be very good, too. He did not have that at Milan and Real Madrid and had it then at Schalke. But right now - in his contract talks either at Schalke or at other clubs - he has a time where he does not function very well on the pitch either. He is only on 5 goals by now this season in the Bundesliga.

He's definitely improved his general play finally but its still fairly limited compared to other strikers out there. Just nowhere near as bad as it was before.

Arsenal generally create a lot of chances and miss them so he should score more than a few.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool would do well to get him. He's a goalscorer and both need one.

I think he would score loads of goals for Arsenal, but offer next to nothing in the build-up. He has improved somewhat at his stint at Schalke, but still not top class. As Arsenal are probably at the same level as Schalke at the moment (of course a bigger club, but not challenging for the league, but always in the Champions League), I'm sure he will be an instant success. He has scored everywhere he went so far.

Doesn't have a great record at Milan and Real, tbf.

His goals from open play scoring rate at Schalke, where he has re-established his reputation is actually less impressive than Defoe's since going back to Spurs. He plays every game and thus racks up the goals, but ultimately he scores every 176 min from open play in the Bundesliga. Given that his all round game is pretty limited, I don't see why he'd have a big impact at Arsenal. They don't need someone to score pens and he is certainly no RVP. So often we slate the fact clubs over pay for English rubbish, but often we also get carried away with the quality of foreign players playing in lesser leagues. KJH really struggled to get involved in games in Italy and Spain, so can't see why it would be any different here, where if anything he is less suited, as the best strikers tend to be much more mobile in the Prem.

Extended his contract to 2015.

"I've always felt at home at Schalke, with the club and the fans, and I want to send out a positive signal now because I believe in our team and I believe we can still achieve a great deal in the second half of the Bundesliga season. And we aren't without a chance against Galatasaray in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Still might move but there is far less reason for Schalke to sell in January.

There were Liverpool supporters in the newbies claiming Hunterlaar - Liverpool was a done deal. Guess they were wrong then.

It wasn't me.

See what I did there, shaggy?

Why would he leave for Liverpool in winter, when Schalke is still playing champions league and his contract runs out in the summer? That would have made absolutely no sense at all. Financially Schalke with CL money isn't far behind Liverpool and with FFP coming, Liverpool probably can't offer a better deal.

I'm glad he's staying in germany, nice to see that the clubs behind Bayern are more and more able to keep important players. If Affelay signs with Schalke and they keep Holty, the club is well set for next few years.

He's been linked with a move to England for what seems like forever and then always renews his contract. His agent is very good.

I actually think Schalke is by far the better choice for him - both in personal and footballing terms. Schalke can offer Champions League football, sell-out a 60k stadium every other week, one of the biggest clubs in Germany, with huge revenue and consistent qualification for the Champions League. They even managed the Semis only a couple of seasons ago. He's also very close to his family (in fact he's living in the Netherlands IIRC), earning a fortune and being crucial for Schalke's both domestic and European aspirations.
The only thing in favour for Liverpool is the lure of the Premier League. They can offer Europa League football and decent wages (I doubt better than Schalke though as their revenue is roughly the same at about £185m), that's about it.

Leaving Schalke for Liverpool in his particular case would've been a tad stupid IMO. Schalke are a bigger club at the moment and far better equipped in the long haul.
