He's got one year left on his contract. We have a new back room staff coming in. I have been of the believe that I want the players gone over the manager for once. I see no harm in him seeing it his final year while the new back room staff start to work.

Yeah I agree. We've got some amazing players and I don't think any manager could get us relegated. But there's many managers who could have us looking a lot better.
Keen to see them, if you can give me the lotto numbers at the same time it'd be appreciated.

It is probably emotions kicking in but maybe i would give him 3rd season.
If choice is Erik or flavors of the month (De Zerbi and McKenna) i would keep Erik.
If choice is Erik or Poch/Tuchel......damn, i don't know anymore.

The wingers moaned at the poll throughout the season. Bit funny irrespective to be honest.

It's more amusing seeing how kneejerk people are going back to wanting to keep him after 1 game despite watching him show himself to be pretty inept as a coach for over a year.

Not that shocking with this place I suppose.

Why would I? He wasn't failing this badly a year ago.

And please mate for the love of god don't make me read some shite about Fergie in the 80's.

I do not want to compare any manager to Fergie. That would not be fair.
But look at Liverpool and City. Their managers did not become a succes at once either. And ETH has won 2 trophies in 2 seasons, which is okay.

Not that knee jerk really. It's a fresh poll gauging sentiment.

Always been EtH in. In fact the only manager I really wanted out was Moyes, and maybe Mourinho because of his antics.

One game shouldn’t and won’t have changed anything, he will still be gone fairly soon. His poor tactics and refusal to change them until the last few games will cost him his job and he can’t really have any complaints.

Finishing with a trophy will ensure he gets a decent job elsewhere at least, just hope it all gets resolved very quickly now.

Nope.

If anyting these last few matches just prove that with tactical tweaks, we could have performed much better this season and his stubbornness cost us. There's no telling if he'll try to make us play that suicidal football again next season.

Tactics have been extremely poor this season & he can blame the injuries, but when players have been fit the football style itself has been largely clueless.

Delighted he won the trophy, both as a United fan but for him as well, but it'd be the right decision to move on from him.

FFS. A post straight from Billy Smart's circus if ever I've seen one.

We're 15th on expected points this season. The only 3 teams that has been way worse than us are the 3 relegated ones. We've played the worst football in our PL history by far. Although we have been unlucky with injuries we've also been incredibly lucky on the pitch. It's no knee jerk at all. Instead of us "out of the blue" getting into a scrap for survival next year I'll say it now, this season we could well have been there.

I think naivity like the one shown above is exactly the pattern of thought that occasionally gets big teams relegated.

Insanity. It's like people are completely unable to seperate the euphoria of a win with long term decision making

unserious fanbase

One of the weirdest fanbases. Standing ovation for Moyes (yet booing Nani and Fellaini), wanting ETH to stay despite an 8th placed finish because some cracks have been papered over.

It's like we haven't gotten over Sir Alex leaving. We just want every manager to stay despite how obvious it is that they're out of their depth.

Hilarious isn't it. And completely predictable.

Beating Liverpool and City in this cup run is fantastic, but let's be honest, the season has been horrendous. 2-3 good games does not warrant another year.
We need consistency every week and ETH obviously did not know to set up the team in such a way. We had Ole who was very good against Pep and it took us nowhere.
We need a manager to make us play in a certain way, with identity and purpose, not a manager that gets it right 3 times per season.
We haven't lost so many games and conceded so many goals since the 70'....think about that before wanting him to stay.

If we sack him now it is highly likely we will come to regret it when things begin to go wrong for the next guy.

If we keep him it is highly likely we will come to regret it when we're 12th at the end of October.

It's the same naievity that allows players to stay here for far longer than they should, because they'll produce a few nice moments that cover people's eyes to the bigger picture and "want to give them another chance"

And when the polls are reset following a defeat, wel see more negative responses.

You silly sausage.

Yes this forum is very knee jerk, I believe I pointed to that in my initial post.

The fact that it is edging towards keeping him (slightly) is very knee jerk. Which is what you took issue with.

Are you following your own point? You silly goose.

I don't understand why people are just automatically assuming the pattern of "oh it's just going to happen again if we sack him" will continue considering pretty much everything about how we are run as a club is changing.

It would be an understandable stance to take if Glazers/Woodward/Murtough were still in charge, but it's stupid to assume now that the pattern will continue (for better or for worse)

Been ETH in. Today changed to ETH out when I saw he started rashford. But I say keep him. Get rid of Rashford, Sancho that alone should be £120m and huge amount saved in wages.

you really lasted this long and that was the final straw

heh

I didn't take issue with anything. I accepted when the polls were against him, you can accept it when it's otherwise.

Its not rocket science babe.

Nah, sorry. We sacked LvG even though he won the FA Cup in 2016. Let’s cut our losses and let him end his spell here on a high. This was a brilliant end to an abysmal season, but finishing 8th is unforgivable. We should give him the van Gaal treatment, however undignified that may seem.

My argument here is that there is no doubt a new manager, even if ultimately a success, would at some point face enough turmoil that 'we should've kept ETH' will become a very popular sentiment.

1989/90 Division One Table. Manager: Alex Ferguson (not then Sir). We won the FA Cup.

He knew what he was signing up for - if you're Dutch and win the FA Cup at Man Utd, you're out.

Nah, if he stays it’ll be more of this, but we will probably finish anywhere from 4-8th again. There’s no feasible way we have this many key players injured, and even if he persists with these weird tactics our player quality will shine through to the extent that we will win a respectable amount more than the teams around us.

We will also spend a decent wedge, so there’s around 2-3 more half decent players (at worst) to add to the squad.

My argument here is that there is no doubt a new manager, even if ultimately a success, would at some point face enough turmoil that 'we should've kept ETH' will become a very popular sentiment.

So we just keep a manager who has shown himself to not be upto it because there are a lot of blindly loyal fans?

That seems like a bad idea, being Man Utd manager comes with a lot of challenges and whoever comes in will have to deal with that.

No. You are misunderstanding.
