Got a chance to see 2-3 of Napoli's recent games and thought he was great. He is very strong but agile, bursts forward to support the attack and has decent technique.

Would rather spend big on him that Maguire. Napoli won't let him go cheap though. We are looking at over 100 mil for him

Nothing like Vidic .More of a technical CB.
That is why, i in my wet dreams, want Koulibaly and Skriniar. If we sell all our defenders, add that 100mil of winter budget, we can have that pair.:drool::drool:. Best pair in the world.
Yeah, i play football manager. A lot:lol::lol:

Do we need another Bailly?

What's that meant to mean?

Speed merchant, erratic!

We need an all rounder, composed, good on the ball, basically a leader I guess a modern version of Chilleni.

Skriniar then. Shame that Bonucci turned us down

Not seen him play but if he is anything like Vidic then he is exactly what we need.

While I know ‘racism’ isn’t the word, especially as Nate is black, I still found this exchange a bit typical of some of the stereotypes in the game today.

It’s clear that Nate Dogg hasn’t see much (or any) of either Koulibaly or Skriniar, but the comparison is that Koulibaly is like Bailly and Skriniar is like Vidic, seemingly based solely on where they are both from.

Not labelling anyone or anything, just an observation.

No it is not. It is rubbish thinking. It is because people search for racism everywhere( like you did here).

Racism is not what I called it. It’s more lazy generalisation. The poster himself had to be corrected that Skriniar is nothing like Vidic. It’s just a lazy comparison is all.

As i said. He is one of the best. But Ed does not care for that

I wish this forum had a warning system so shite like this didn’t go unregulated

oh look more tripe. The exchange in this thread was a joke but the notion that people “look for racism everywhere” is laughable as well as dismissive.

As i said, his question and answer was purely based on abilities. Like in Koulibali and Bailly. But in this world today people will find a way to saw it through race thing.
For example one poster one time said that Martial and Pogba are not so clever(on the pitch). Other poster said to him that he is a racist because they are both black. Generalisation and stereotypes exist, don't get me wrong here, but lots of times only in eyes of observer.

What are you talking about here??

Would love this guy but the transfer is a non-starter

If it is true what their president said that they refused 100mil bid then i don't see anybody except Psg who would spend over 100 mil for him.

Even if we've made mistakes in the past, it doesn't mean we just "stop" buying defenders and persist with what we've got. Its clear Bailly, Lindelof, Rojo, Jones and Smalling are not top defenders and/or can't be relied upon to win a title.

If this guy is half as good as people make out, we should be all over it.

So, in other words, Koulibaly

Edit: i think Skriniar is a lot like Vidic honestly

Gilk is similar to Vidic imo.

Actually with Monaco having a really poor season and in danger of going down he's probably one of the more realistic attainable CBs around who'd improve United's defence.

If we want a top defender, I think we are going to have to attempt prises away one that's proven otherwise it's a lottery that we've not been very lucky with to date.

He'd actually be a good signing TBH, he's made for the premier league. Whether he's what we need though, not sure. Prefer my CB's with a bit more pace.

He'd be a good Smalling partner though.

I've always liked him, was great for Poland at Euro 2016 (injured during last World cup), was good for Torino and was excellent for Monaco last two seasons.

Just having a poor time like everyone else. If Monaco go down they'd obviously be accepting bids of 10m which is a bargain for a defender with that experience.

The sort of experienced partner Lindelof needs to settle him down at club level I think.

I like koulibaly, he is physically dominant but would put him in the category of CBs that rely more on athleticism than intellect. Vidic, Bailly, Ramos, Pepe, Sanches etc would be of same ilk to different degrees.

He is a great CB but not what we need at the moment imo and have never felt his type of CBs are worth huge price tags cos they are more common and easier to find, particularly in the rough.

He will be a great improvement on our current CBs but would still leave a vacuum of leadership and organization - that is not good enough at 100m. We have bailly and, if we scout well enough, should be able to find another younger and cheaper candidate in that mold even if he would need some polishing

(Not as targets) Rio, Godin, Silva, Alderweireld, Hummels, Chielini, Kompany, Carvalho, Nesta, Cannavaro, Varane etc are the types of CBs I think we should be looking at. CBs that can lead, organize, keep the line straight, direct and correct errors of the other defenders, and generally instill confidence in the back line. if he is physically gifted, the better. Those are the rarer kind of CBs and are often worth the high price tag.

Lindelof also falls into this category but is a long way off and would benefit from having someone to learn from.

Dealing with Mbappe and Neyma very well so far.. When ever i see him play i think wow. But £100m wow? Thats a big jump on the current £75m record for a CB

He is 28 in the summer.

So if we wouldn't buy 29 year old Toby A for 50mil why would we put up the 80mil+ needed to get him?

Mbappe got no change from him in their last game too. He’s immense.

Skriniar is so fecking good. Dealing with Dembele and Suarez one-on-one with total calmness and serenity and won everything in the air.

The age is a bit of a concern but another way of looking at it is he's only like 20 days older than Van Dijk

It is the perfect age for a CB to be honest, especially in the situation we are in. If he is the answer and good enough I'm not sure, but the age he is in is perfect if he is good enough.

Didn't watch this game, but watched Skriniar against Barca instead and he looked alright, and I think he is even younger too.

He's a better defender than VVD imo, maybe not a better player though.

It is and I wonder what some people are expecting from signing a CB for £100 million. That includes Woodward who was the first to link us with such a move.

Obviously we can expect for a £100 million CB to improve our defense. But just like any CB we can expect mistakes. Especially in that player's first season, especially if deployed next to players who have been caught out plenty of times this season such as Bailly and Lindelof particularly early in the season for the latter. It wont be a case of us signing a CB who doesn't make any mistakes, because that player doesnt exist. So it'll be about how often and how costly those mistakes are.

For £100 million we have to be expecting that he's at his best in all the big matches and his mistakes are rarely on those occasions, or that he can somewhat make up for the mistakes ala. Ramos and score lots of goals or something.

I've only seen Koulibaly a little myself. From what I've seen of course he would improve us defensively. But I severely doubt it'll be anywhere near £100 million of improvement. Thats another Pogba and I doubt he'll be able to change games as often as having another Pogba would.

That slide tackle against Mbappe
