Doesnt look very mobile. Also got tight to PSG players coming short, but they quickly played the ball to a teammate and he wasn't able to get back in to help the defense. Neymar did it to him once, then again on PSG's first goal. Reminds me of the issue Maguire had in the 3 man defense at the world cup only for him it wasnt trying to get tight to an attacker, but trying to be involved in attacking play and it breaking down and then him not being able to get back into the defensive line.
Best Centre-back in the world for me alongside Van Dijk, Ramos and Godin

He should really be one of our main targets next summer though, the improvement he'd make to us would solve so much of our problems in defence.

in all seriousness if we bought him he'd do a lot more defending than he has to do at Napoli. They play high pressing and play to dominate the possession. Kouliably can anticipate the danger and use his pace and power to great effect. Our defence invites too much pressure.
Agreed. For example tonight Alan made 7 tackles and 1 interception. He tends to put in a big shift working hard in midfield. Makes the most tackles in Serie A and 8th highest in the champions league this season.

Exactly. Allan doesn't get tired. He is everywhere, making the tackles and the whole midfield works very hard. Matic is a passenger for us. It doesn't matter which defender we buy if a) he isn't being protected and b)we don't change our tactics.

Thats the thing tho isn't it. We need to buy like 10 players next summer, some cheap and some expensive and just hope that some of them work out. We might have bought this guy if we did that type of thing and weren't so stuck up, assuming of course that our scouts was aware of him.
We bought Lindelof and Bailly at a similar age than Koulibaly was when he signed with Napoli. And neither were exactly big names. It just has not completely worked out yet.
(And we do not need 10 players).
Both had played at a higher level, Lindelof in the champions league and Bailly in La Liga. Thats why they were a lot more expensive too.
Having said that Koulibaly did at least statistically have strong performances for Genk in the Europa League
So I'm sure there were plenty of managers/clubs who knew about him and thought he was a good prospect too. But clubs cant take a chance on every young player who is doing well and only some of them turn out to be big winners.
For reference his career average is 7.11 so he wasnt far off it in those early days.

Yeah could be but I cant see Chelsea spending 80-90 mil on a CB given that their defensive record is pretty decent, you never know though.
