Juan Mata

Hazard looked more impressive when he come on, I thought. The Mata love-in's a bit strange really.

Whys it strange? if anything its one of the least strange thing I find on here, hes a class player and conducts himself well, in these heady days of Arseholes like Suarez and Terry, Arrogant divas like Ronaldo and Balotelli how often do you find that?

Hazard played well as well yesterday, but overall Mata has stood out more this season.

 Already thinking about moving him on. What about keeping your better players and winning the league?

He is 21, so we could have him for 7 seasons potentially and still sell him for more than we got him for.

It's a fact that footballers move on - look at your Ronaldo. You can bury your head in the sand and pretend that 99% of footballers aren't generally mercenaries or you can accept it is a fact of modern football.

I'd much rather invest in young talent with a re-sale value - makes far more business sense than buying the likes of Torres at 28 for 50 million quid.

Probably has to do with the fact that Mata has been Chelsea's most important player this season.

Eden Hazard is currently on 15 assists and 11 goals, Juan Mata on 20 assists and 17 goals, Oscar on 8 assists and 9 goals.

That would explain why Chelsea fans like him so much, yeah. There's this strange affection for him on here though. Currently he's the best of the three because he's the oldest and he's had his settling in period but it wouldn't be surprising at all to see the other two overtake him...I'd hate to see the love-in then.

Love in is strange because most people don't agree with you on who's the better lover?

Hazard rejected us. Hardly surprising there's much love for him. He's also been hot and cold. Mata is usually Chelsea's best performer unless someone else has a stand out game. He's pretty much always been in the top 3 every time I've seen Chelsea play.

Oscar was great in the first games in the CL. Fairly anonymous overall this season. Similar to Kagawa. You can see their class but it's not been consistent enough. Hardly surprising given that they're both new to the league.

Mata's also not a dislikeable type. If you play for a team like Chelsea, are this consistently good then people on here will acknowledge that. It's usually done when we're playing them.

United fans in admiring a great opposition player who also appears very likeable. What's the world coming to...:wenger:

He was the top chance creator in the Premier League in his first season in the league. He's outstanding.

Now we just need a world class striker and a better defence to match him.

I doubt its about a single game. Mata has again this season proven himself as a player who is very good at creating for his team, but also carries a genuine goalthreat from a non-striker position.

There are more influencial versions of an in the hole player like Silva who tends to get on the ball more, but in terms of genuine impact in the final third there are few better than Mata. And like with other forward players, the most important thing is to either score or set up your teamate to score because thats what secures points and wins. It doesnt hurt that hes one of the best freekick takers in the league as well.

So hes not the best of the three because he's done the most for his team this season, following on from doing pretty much the same last season too? Its just that he's older...

So hang on it's a strange affection because we highly rate the best out of the trio? He's a very good player, who seems to have a good attitude to the game. Regardless of his team or comparisons to players in a similar position, I don't see the problem in people on here rating him.

Fine, we'll take Hazard in 2 years when he sorts his consistancy out. Meanwhile we'll try to hold onto our own players rather than thinking about selling them

Thinking about the re-sale value of assets is just basic common sense - it makes business sense to buy promising young players like Hazard with a re-sell value than players like Torres who will be well into their 30's by the time their contract ends.

You can get on your high horse about it all you like, but there was feck all you could do to stop your best player leaving - but at least you made an enormous profit on it.

They bought Mata when the club, Man Utd that is, seemingly didn't know anything at all about La Liga. Don't know if that has changed too much or they still have the mindset, like so many, that players will have a hard time getting used to moving from Spain to England.

chelsea bought mata the same time we bought ashley young :)

But it could have been even worse. Pool got Downing.

Anyway, Mata has been classy this year. People are talking about RVP, Suarez and Bale as the main contenders for the best player in England but I think that Mata deserves to be right there with these three. Right now, he is by a far distance the best Chelsea player, and I don't think that Oscar will ever be better than him. Hazard is another thing though, with a right guidance (not Benitez) and a right attitude (don't have a clue if he has it or not) one day can be one of the best in the world.

Not at all, I think he's the best of the trio too at the moment and he's been possibly the most consistent attacking player all season. Plenty of nice goals for people to drool over and a very tidy footballer so it's completely expected that opposition fans admire him, I just think there's people in here who seem desperate to exaggerate how good he is - not just United fans on here. "Outstanding footballer". Even with all that productivity I'm not sure he's ever looked as influential as Silva on song and I think if he were back in Span he'd be seen as a very good player much like Cazorla rather than the outstanding player people are talking about now. That's all besides the point though, I just think some people have a genuine affection for him which I always find strange when I come across it - that's all.

They bought him after we repeatedly tried to sign Silva, Torres and probably Villa so I'm sure we were aware of him.

That's not true though.

Remember we tried to sign silva first but he wasn't interested at the time.

I'm suprised we were not interested in mata but perhaps we didnt feel he fit in with the winger type we wanted at the time.

I gotcha. Just came across a bit differently but I know what you mean. I think it's just because he's getting praised all over the place unlike the other two that might seem that he's loved by all. It's nothing compared to Bale I feel but with Bale at least there are some haters. Mata haters don't exist.

I don't doubt the club wasn't aware. I just don't think they knew too much to feel comfortable bidding that money at the time. I don't blame them for not doing so but it feels like they're scouting of Spain should have been a bit better. Chelsea and City are more inclined to pay big dough for uncertainty.

Perhaps the club didnt actually want a left footed winger? We seem to buy right footed ones all the time so they can cut inside and have Evra become the left winger. Well on a good day.

One of my favourite players outside United. Would rather have him (or Bale of course) here than any other player in the league.

Kept him quiet first half but he found some space going deep and made us pay with the goal.

He's had an excellent season.

Such a brilliant playmaker. I wish we had one of his/silva type in our team. Someone with brilliant technical ability, creativity and desire to control things to unlock defences.

Was very disruptive to us in the second half, I thought we did well holding him to half chances. Not quite on full song which was lucky for us.

What a peach of a cross for the Ba goal, couldn't place it any better.

Thought he was pretty invisible for the most part as he is almost any time we play him. Flashes of brilliance while he drifts through games. Can't see why anyone thinks he's a level above Bale other than the fact he's a small, technical player. He's not more influential player throughout the game.

His superior stats and knack of creating/scoring in big moments in the bigger games.

Quality player who always creates something out of nothing with a brilliant pass or assist.

For Chelsea: 2 seasons, 105 games, 30 goals, 50 assists.

Top quality midfielder from Spain will always be good buy - look at Mata, Silva and Cazorla. We should get one next season, we really should instead of watching our rivals getting yet another one.

I'm still not sure there is a better player in the country than him at the moment, he is incredibly consistent and even on a very off day like today he produces the world class ball which wins the tie.

He offers what Giggs does at his current age in his best matches but does it almost every week. I think thats about the biggest compliment I could pay him, top top player.

Close call but I think I'd prefer to have Hazard rather than Mata.
