Juan Mata

I meant if he is picking between Liverpool and Arsenal, then he might pick Liverpool.

He might, but he wont be at 24 million euros. When the real money is offered and Valencia see it as too much money to turn down, then he might have a choice to make.

I really doubt we are going for Mata this summer.

also, how dare you retweet my outrage. This isn't the internet where nothing is private, you lout.

Valencia are sticking to their €30million (£26.4million) price tag on in-demand winger Juan Mata, according to reports in Spain.

The Spain international is a reported target for Chelsea, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger having ruled his club out of the running at the weekend.

Tottenham expressed an interest earlier in the summer, but their pursuit has since cooled due to the excessive asking price.

And Madrid-based sports newspaper Marca claims Valencia rebuffed an offer from Chelsea totalling €25million (£21.9million) this week.

The Blues, the report suggests, are preparing to order Fernando Torres to convince his international team-mate of the merits of a move to Stamford Bridge.

"Fernando, you will tell Mata it is wonderful here, whether you believe it or not. is that clear?"

"yes."

"IS THAT CLEAR?"

"yes... boss."

Valencia want 30 million euros for Mata, and its believed Chelsea are willing to pay it. So this one might actually happen unlike the Arsenal story. In fact one report on goal.com suggests Chelsea already came straight back in with a £27 million bid after the £22 million bid was declined. Whether thats true or not, I think its fairly likely to happen anyway. And so Valencia will be very tempted to allow him to leave

Would that mean an end to the chase for Modric? Or would they use Mata as a left winger?

They don't even need Mata. It's like signing someone for the sake of signing someone, like Harry Redknapp

Well if they flog Kalou off to Spurs with the Modric deal they might do. Good signing if Chelsea can pull it off.

Chelsea and Mata don't really seem like a good fit to me. Then again if it's true it could be the start of AVB shaping a team of his own.

Mata would be fantastic left of their front 3, or he could play at the head of a diamond if Chelsea still wanted to go that way post-Ancelotti

Either way he could easily play in the same team as Modric

Unfortunately, I think he is the kind of player who would help Torres thrive.

I don't care who signs him, I just want him in the Prem.

Chelski would look very strong if they get him and Modric

Chelsea don't play with wingers. And they have Kalou, Benayoun, Malouda and possibly Anelka if they ever need one

They play 4-3-3 which means they play one striker and two wingers. Mata is better than Kalou, Benayoun and Anelka on the wings. They play wingers but they just don't use the width that we use in our system where wingers play a huge part.

Plus Mata can play in the hole, and used to play as a second striker. He gets you plenty of goals. So he's perfect for a front 3 really

Is there anything concrete in the Chelsea link or is it just the usual media bollocks? If any team was interested in him, surely they'd have got him a couple of weeks ago when the cheaper clause was still active.

Unlike the Arsenal stories, this one actually appears on the best valencia site I know of for transfer info. They get the majority of things right before more general sites

I still dont believe that clause existed, but oh well. According to vcfcentral

"Over the last few hours, negotiations between the London based club and Valencia have intensified as there are just two weeks remaining before the closure of the transfer window.

Valencia’s stance has been made crystal clear. “We will not speak about any figure below €30m.”

Not sure on their source but they usually dont have news up about rumours of their players leaving unless theres something solid to it. They had absolutely nothing at any point when he was being linked to Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, United etc.

Marca says a deal is imminent.
