Juan Mata

Apparently getting shirt number 10 (currently Benayoun's) and a five-year deal has been agreed between the player and Chelsea. Valencia want 30m Euros for Mata, Chelsea still 2m Euros short if reports are to be believed.

Why would they give away his shirt number unless he's off?

He can do either, until last season he'd never played in the middle behind a striker and his best season was when he led the team with Villa and had the most assists in the league aside from the robot Xavi with 20, from the left wing. He has a good cross. Its just Valencia needed a solution to replacing Silva behind the striker.

If Mata stays at Valencia, now with Canales and Piatti signed, he might well be asked to play his wide role again and put in the crosses for Soldado

If he goes to Chelsea that might be his role as well. Putting in crosses from out wide.

I'm happy for the Prem. We're getting some of that glamour back with players like Suarez, Aguero and Mata playing here.

Yeah, the lack of glamour these last few years has been a real downer. Was starting to lose interest tbh. I'm just so pleased Chelsea signed Mata, City signed Aguero and Liverpool signed Suarez. Fantastic news. Yay!!

Rumours of a 27 million euro fee agreed between Valencia and Chelsea, rumours on twitter and apparently reported through Marca.

Get the feck in!
Excellent news, our rivals has strengthened.

Yeah, the lack of glamour these last few years has been almost too hard to bear.

I know what he means though, in the last 5 years the Premiership has lost:

Henry, Ronaldo, Fabregas, Ballack, Shevchenko, Crespo, Alonso, Eboue, Macherano and Van Nistelrooy.

While they may not all be big names now and they may not all have lit the Premier League up, they were household names that had a following around the world and attracted viewers.

Maybe it's a case of not realising what you have until it's gone.

You could argue we have genuine stars still in:

Rooney, Nani, Ferdinand and Vidic, Van Persie, Drogba, Torres, Lampard, Terry, Silva, Tevez and Modric.

Maybe that isn't what he was arguing though. If we are talking glamour as in pretty boy Beckham types that's just ridiculous and irrelevant.

Very good signing if true, but it Juant Mata if Cleverley does the business for us.

Urgh..

Word. All we need now is for Wayne's hair to grow lush and football will be fun again.

Well, there was that season where Ronaldo signed for RM, and then all the players linked to British clubs weren't coming (Kaka, Villa, Etoo) etc and it seemed the prem lost its appeal to quality foreign players.

Now it's coming back. Glamourous.

Yes, this is exactly what I meant. Premiership was losing some great players, and other non prem great players were avoiding coming here. I definitely don't mean the Beckham bit.

What no one else notice this odd one there?

VALENCIA C.F.

Valencia Football Club has reached an agreement in principle with Chelsea FC for the transfer of the player Juan Manuel Mata. The agreement is subject to the relevant medical tests.

See. Never a chance with Arsenal, but I knew something was up with the chelsea rumour. I'm good with this Valencia stuff, I gotcha covered

Hes just what they need. Tough fecking league this year. Whither Arsenal?

At least mask it with the thin veil of periphrasis, you plonker

Apart from failing to grasp what a fantastic signing Silva would be, you mean?

Said he wasnt worth the £30 million most caf users posting in his thread were suggesting. Said he wouldnt produce as much as Berbatov in his first season. But did say he has the potential to be one of the best players in the world.

He had a poor first half of the season and a much better second half. I wasnt wrong

Of course you weren't. You never are. At least you'll never admit it anyway. The rest of us can draw our own conclusions.

rofl sounds about right. Silva had a fair few detractors though.

Good signing for them. Very tough league this year but I feel confident that we can still more than challenge obviously. Feel sorry for Arsenal fans though slightly, thought he was coming to them a week or so ago and now he's gone to a rival when their squad is looking really really poor.

I admit it loads of the time. You just like to insert your own arguments people dont actually say and argue with that instead.

For instance I said that City got him for a decent price. Far cry from ekeke hates Silva or cant admit he's done well at City or what-have-you

TBH I've always gotten the impression that you hated Silva as a player

Because its easier than sorting my pro-Silva remarks from my anti-Silva remarks.

Ekeke said something bad about Silva? I'll be lazy and just assume he hates him rather than have to think

Dunno about anyone else but Chelsea in their current state aren't title challengers not based on their 2 performances thus far anyway however if they end up lining up like this come September then :nervous:

---------------Cech---------------
Bosingwa---Alex---Terry---A.Cole
-------------Ramires-------------
-----Modric----------Lampard-----
Sturridge---------------------Mata
---------------Torres---------------

And that's without mentioning their options from the bench in Lukaku, Drogba, Anelka, Kalou, Malouda, Essen, Mikel, Ivanovic, Luiz

Scary good, only remaining question marks will be if the young manager can get them playing to their potential....
