Juan Mata

Of course you weren't. You never are. At least you'll never admit it anyway. The rest of us can draw our own conclusions.
This isn't wrong is it?

Why would I hate him? He's a good player.

I dislike people who cant see past fancy dans though and think thats what is important in football, that a player looks "class".

There needs to be a lot of substance too. And in Silva's case I've watched him almost every week for over 3 seasons. There's not enough. Not enough to be a top player anyway. Not enough for us to have spent more than what City paid for him, which I actually said was a decent price considering we were linked with £30 million moves.

He can do a decent job on the wing, although really he creeps inside and plays in the middle from there. You lose a lot. He's better suited to playing in the hole, but he doesnt produce near enough to play there for a top team. Perhaps he's best suited to play at the head of a diamond midfield, but thats just speculation as he's never played there. So who knows if he'd be great there or if its just another position where he does a job, but not the standard that top teams expect?

It is frustrating when a gifted player never fulfills his potential. After a number of years I've tired of waiting to see him do it. Perhaps he never will.

Dunno about anyone else but Chelsea in their current state aren't title challengers not based on their 2 performances thus far anyway however if they end up lining up like this come September then :nervous:

---------------Cech---------------
Bosingwa---Alex---Terry---A.Cole
-------------Ramires-------------
-----Modric----------Lampard-----
Sturridge---------------------Mata
---------------Torres---------------

And that's without mentioning their options from the bench in Lukaku, Drogba, Anelka, Kalou, Malouda, Essen, Mikel, Ivanovic, Luiz

Scary good, only remaining question marks will be if the young manager can get them playing to their potential....

I'm not sure that holding role really suits Ramires. He's as box to box as they come. Modric might be able to do it though ala Scholes in recent years

Yep Ramirez isn't a holding player. But Ramires and Modric combined could do the required defensive work without having to play a designated destroyer.

Something like what we do when we play Carrick and Fletcher.

Yeah I know but it didn't feel right to line up Modric so deep, that midfield 3 is very interchangeable :nervous:

So I wonder if Lampard still thinks that their "rivals" are spending too much

when did they sing Modric?

Harry Redknapp: Juan Mata deal will kill Chelsea Luka Modric move - ESPN Soccernet

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says that Chelsea's signing of Juan Mata will likely kill their prospects of signing Luka Modric as well.

Modric has been linked with a £35 million move to Stamford Bridge all summer and has expressed his desire to quit the club, however Chelsea announced on Sunday that they have agreed a deal to sign Spanish international Mata from Valencia for around £25 million.

Now Redknapp believes that Mata's arrival in England could mean that his player stays at White Hart Lane this month.

"Chelsea have signed him?" Redknapp told talkSPORT. "I didn't know that. Well, I would think that's the end of the Modric deal then, surely. I would [think the Mata deal has killed the Modric move]. I had no idea about that."

Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy handles all transfer business at the club and Redknapp admitted that he thought he was close to bringing Mata in himself.

"We tried to get [Mata], to be honest with you. We were in for him strong about three weeks ago," said Redknapp. "I was driving back from the pre-season game with Brighton and the chairman said that he was confident he was going to sign the boy that night. He obviously turned it down but [the Chelsea move] has come out of the blue."

Modric has hit out at Levy over broken promises that he would be allowed to leave, but Redknapp is confident that he will stay.

"I think Daniel [Levy] has said he will sit down with Luka in a month or so and have a chat with him and a look at his contract," said Redknapp. "I want to keep him for sure. I just felt that if he didn't want to be here that much that maybe we might have to sell him. If people don't want to play for you, you might have to sell him and go and get three or four players in.

"As a player I couldn't be happier to keep Luka Modric, he's a fantastic footballer and as I've said many times you couldn't meet a nicer boy."

So Redknapp never said that and they have just added it and made it the headline
Brilliant

So he probably said "I would think that's the end of the Modric deal then, surely. I would so/that."

Would mean less Maloud in the starting line-up. Malouda wins them games every season. Underrated.

Mata on one side of Torres and Malouda on the other, plus Malouda is getting older so Mata is a good long term buy into the bargain.

In the current market, i'm assuming they've got him for a very good price. One of them value for money signings.

 Redknapp and Levy - a match made in heaven. Fecking clowns, the pair of them.

What the feck did Tottenham need Mata for?

Mainly to stop Redknapp going cold turkey. He'll be seeing dead babies crawling along the ceiling if they don't sign at least one player by the end of this week.

Preferably a player who can cover two positions they already have very good players in, but cannot play exactly where they need their new player to play?

Just to add to this, he says this also

"He has a fantastic young centre-half in Phil Jones," Redknapp said. "It's the time you buy, when you're going well. They win the championship and he goes out and brings a couple in. Ashley Young is a good signing, a player I tried to sign. We chased him. We chased Stewart Downing [now with Liverpool]. Their wages … it was always just out of our reach."

Is there any player left in Premier League who hasn't been chased by Harry.

Still cant believe Arsenal didnt go all out & get Mata, it looked like they were the only one's in for him, was quite surprised there wasnt a massive hunt for this lad. I reckon if Arsenal had of paid what Valencia wanted - roundabout £22m, he would have been their player long before now. I wouldnt be happy if i was an arsenal fan at this point in time. That board are just selling players & keeping the profits for themselves, they wont invest because its a business to them & the Emirates is always full anyway - turnstile monies aplenty..

feck winning anything when the money still flies in - seems to be their mantra..

Why? They could play Mata on the right and Malouda on the left.

------------Essien---Ramires------------
Mata------------Lampard--------Malouda
-----------------Torogba---------------

or something.

Good signing I think.

Can Mata play on the right?

Great signing. Exciting to see in the Prem.

Spurs crack me up. Got to admire them for trying though...

Can Mata play on the right?

Did a stint there for Spain in the under-21s in the summer. Can see him playing on the inside right channel, in a 4-3-3 if Villas-Boas sticks with it, much like Hulk did for Porto.

Mata is exactly the sort of player Arsenal absolutely do not need.
