Juan Mata

I reckon Liverpool fans will be on the verge of suicide. Always amuses me how many of them were dreaming that Aguero and Mata will be joining them.

They play 4-3-3 which means they play one striker and two wingers. Mata is better than Kalou, Benayoun and Anelka on the wings. They play wingers but they just don't use the width that we use in our system where wingers play a huge part.

They did not play with width under Ancelotti but they do so under Villas-Boas.

Great little talent. Can see him doing well playing behind torres.

Chelsea still need out and out wingers though. Mata is more of a wide playmaker like Silva than a player who provides width.

He can do either, until last season he'd never played in the middle behind a striker and his best season was when he led the team with Villa and had the most assists in the league aside from the robot Xavi with 20, from the left wing. He has a good cross. Its just Valencia needed a solution to replacing Silva behind the striker.

If Mata stays at Valencia, now with Canales and Piatti signed, he might well be asked to play his wide role again and put in the crosses for Soldado

AS :

The Madrid based newspaper is reporting that the player will move to Chelsea for a fee of €30 Million.

Juan Mata will play at Chelsea next season according to As. Chelsea resumed negotiations with Valencia to sign Juan Mata and are on the verge to reach an agreement with the Spaniards for a figure close to €30 Million euros.

The transfer is yet to be completed, only the final details are left and the move could be completed in the next few hours according to As.

The signing of Mata was requested from coach Villa-Boas who also asked for the signing of Luka Modric to be completed. As Chelsea have a €70 Million budget for both players, Abramovic wanted to put players in the deal but Valencia would only accept cash. Arsenal were interested in the player but never made an approach.

Looks more likely to happen than not

Hearing from a Chelsea supporter that Mata spoke to André Villas-Boas to day and they are finalising details on the deal, which is expected to be closed over the week end.

They get their width from the full backs - have for years and seems that's Villas Boas way as well.

Apparently want some full back from Porto as well as Modric to complete the spending.

Mata move 2 Chelsea sorted. It's a matter of hours. Clubs agreed fee, 28m, personal terms agreed too. He's very much looking 4ward to it. [Gulliem Ballbag]

So, Chelsea getting Mata then. Interesting, I see them as our main rival this season.

Chelsea are a comfortably superior side to City IMO and this is a good signing for them. They have great experience in the team, some absolute tanks of players and now they're solving their main weakness - wingers.

This guy is a tabloid headline writers dream.

I personally think it won't mata if we sign this guy, we are adding Juan more league title to our collection this season.

I beg to duffer.

How much have chelsea spent this year?
75m in Jan
15m on AvB
~8m on a keeper
~5m on a barca youth midfielder
25m on mata
15-20m? on Lukaku

How much have they recouped?

crazy shit :wenger:

£13 Million for Zhirkov, £3 Million for Mancienne are the ones worth talking about.

He is at Stamford Bridge today. Done deal then.

and like that in one fell swoop, Chelsea have done their transition.

Very good signing for them if so. I don't know if Arsenal were really ever in for him but when you look at the fact they've brought in Chamberlain who, let's be honest, won't be ready for a year or two at the earliest, it doesn't bode that well for them. Perpetual transition is the road to nowhere.

He's being shown around Stamford Bridge right now. Hopefully they forget Modric now.

I've seen very little of him.
Work in progress or is he ready?

Great signing!! Glad he's in the prem!! Yup hopefully no modric now but they could still fit him in!!

Very good signing for them. They have too many attackers atm, I expect they'll offer a couple to Spurs for Modric.

When I read his name, there's one scene that I always think of:

On a more serious note: He was the the one signing I wished Chelsea wouldn't make. He's a classy player, technically superb, his close control and vision are top notch too.

fecking Chelsea signing some good young players. They made the right move bringing AVB in.
