Juan Mata - A Common Goal | Man Utd Women manager Casey Stoney joins

It's great to see and a lovely gesture by everyone involved, I just hope players don't feel pressured into doing this, yes 1% is nothing for most of them but still.

I agree with this. Everyone who is contributing are doing a wonderful thing - but those who choose not to should not be slighted imo.

You know that millionaires can donate their money without publicizing it to the media right? Calm down a bit

Yes but the media usually gets wind of it. It isn’t the famous millionaires that are the main problem and I should have elaborated.

It’s the millionaire bankers and the likes of Phillip Green ripping of thousands of people for millions of quid. Then there is the millionaire tac evaders who are not evading tax to give to charity. They are doing it to own two yaughts and ten holiday homes etc. Then you have Billionaire oil tycoons like Abromovich and the City owners who would rather spend hundreds and hundreds of millions on a game which is really just a toy for them. I can guarantee there is countless millionaires and billionaires who do little for charity. And if they do, what is 1% of their money to charity to them? Nothing. They are still sitting on ridiculous money that could help the world.

Obviously there are loads of great charity donaters and causes, such as JK Rowling falling out of the Forbes rich list because she gave so much money to charity. Or the Bill Gates foundation, which also involves Warren Buffet and is the charity foundation that has donated more money than any person or any charity ever.

But more can be done by the rich.

I agree that players who aren't signing up shouldn't be judged, everyone contributes in their own way....

Didn't Gary Nevill do something similar in trying to get players to donate money to give to nurses? My overriding memory is that the players were a bunch of tight arses and very few clubs signed up.

Why does everyone keep fretting about this? I've yet to hear any judgment of players who haven't signed up (and given that that's the entire footballing universe minus 10 individuals, it would be a pretty futile judgment to make.) From what I gather about this initiative, the whole idea is to make it part of the salary structure of all players in the future, thereby creating a situation where a player is not pressured to sign up, seeing that the 1% is automatically deducted, almost like a tax (please correct me if I have completely misread this.)

It will take time for others to come on board as they will have their own commitments to other charitable projects to consider first.

I love this guy. Mata is the most likable player that united had in a long time. He has heart big as a old trafford.
He came as a superstar. Ended as a 12th player. For all managers. He was often on the bench but always with the smile and positive attitude. Hope he will stay here till the end of his career.

Brosquinho! Skipper of my local home club has signed up, what a legend. Kudos again to all participating members and Juan!

He's such a wonderful bloke - echo everyone's statements that I wish he stays until he retires and is offered a role at the club afterwards. Football needs more people like him.

How has our Dave not signed up for this yet? Surely he will be convinced by his Juan?

Still no United players signed up.

Sad.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned in the thread already but a lot of the players do their own sort of charity - e.g. Matic pays for an entire village/town in Serbia, Özil frequently gives large amounts to charity (Islamic Zakat) etc. I’m sure each players management team have their own sort of set up to give to charity.

Or they’re all greedy bastards. Which there’s nothing wrong with anyway - irrespective of what they earn it is their money after all.

Yeah, not judging Dave or anything. But sometimes you can do it only for the sake of your best mates so I would have guessed he was one of the PL players.

Chiellini now in as well. Fair play to Mata, he gives an average of 1.5k per week thats over 75k per year. Given he's now bringing in a few big names this could well skyrocket soon. Love to see some City players get involved.

Trump will probably ask him when he’s going to start building him his wall.

Didnt Ozil give all his WC prize money away to some Brazilian charity?

Ronaldo also is really really generous with his money and donating to charity, i guess that is why he needs those pay rises. Also i dont think every player donates money to make the news, some do it out of kindness and others might do it for tax reasons. Some dont do it at all.

“I very happy to. To be here in the city. You have much nice place.”
“Pleased to meet you too Mr President. But please stop trying to eat the pencils.”

Or

Trump: “are you one of those spanish from Europe that eat tacos or one of the ones that are bringing drugs over my border?”

Modi and trump can feck right off, hopefully mata can scholes tackle the cnuts.

As do I. He is my favourite player. Classy and elegant to watch and a proper nice guy to boot.

If he retires at United, he will go down as a legend in my book. Those two goals against Liverpool will live on forever. All he needs now is a Premier League and a Champions League. I believe he can contribute massively to those targets.

We need squad depth but unfortunately I fear for his future at United with the arrival of Sanchez. Hopefully he won’t leave but if he does, I can see him ending up at a team like Atletico or Valencia. Maybe Barcelona would take a punt on him as a squad player. Either way, I hope he signs a big extension. He deserves it.
