"Hello. I'm Giorgio Chiellini, player of Juventus.

I'm interested to support your program and I would like to give my congratulations to Juan Mata for finding the time and having the idea to support through football people less lucky than us.

I'm not interested in advertising, I want only to support a brilliant project.

Sorry for my English. I try to make the best as possible!

I wait for your answer about complete the registration. Bye, Giorgio."

Good on them.

If Messi and Ronaldo joined the flood gates would open.

It is a shame that more footballers aren’t involved in this. However it shouldn’t really be football charities that the 10% is going towards. There are much more important charities that it should be going too.

Most footballers in the EPL can easily afford it without financially struggling. The players from the top Spanish, German and Italian teams can also easily afford this.

It’s a totally disgrace that they don’t do more for charity. But it’s not just them, the richest people in every industry in the world should be doing more.

It’s 2017 and there are still people in the world dying due to poverty, famine and malnutrition. This shouldn’t be happening.

More needs to be done in the richest countries in the world also. People being homeless in the UK amongst other things is shocking.

I'm willing to bet most footballers do a shitload for charity, you just don't see it.

This isn’t true, they do a lot but I sure they could do more. When you are a multi millionaire getting paid £5 million plus a year. How much of that money do they really need. I bet they are still absolutely loaded and if they retired today they would be able to live a very comfortable life and still have a lot left over. But footballers aren’t the biggest issue. Billionaires, and rich tax avoiders are the ones who should be doing a lot more that what footballers do.

Mata is the true role model of professional football.

Great guy, I hope he manages to get more high profile players on board too.

Surprised no other United players have joined him, especially the likes of Herrera and De Gea.

Like Bill Gates.... The Gates Foundation?

Or Zuckerburg donating billions to medical research?

Or the 168 billionaires who have signed the Giving Pledge?

It applies to footballers, billionaires, basically anyone with any money who you don't know. You don't have a clue how much they donate.

Obviously when I play well and win a trophy I feel happy about myself. But I feel even happier for my family because I know how they suffer when things are not going right.

Make no mistake, there is a very dark side to Juan.

Juan Mata opened an exhibition at the National Football Museum last night that is all about the work that his charity does with kids from India (some of whom are in the BBC news piece from earlier).

It's on for about the next 4 weeks, if anyone is in Manchester it's definitely worth a look.

Common Goal has signed up quite a few more footballers than have been released yet, I believe. So, perhaps some of his United team mates will be among that group. But a great number of footballers do loads for charity, whether it's under the umbrella of Common Goal or not. They may simply have their own views on where the money should go, or prefer to support different charities.

I personally hate charities, the causes I agree with but the charities themselves are on the take massively!

Well done to Mata and all the footballers for taking part though! I would love to be friends with Mata though, I bet he's a lovely guy.

Give him a contract extensiona nd ensure that he retires here. Later make him club's ambassador. True Gentleman

You know that millionaires can donate their money without publicizing it to the media right? Calm down a bit

I have been pretty appalled by the lack of players who have committed to this. How many months has Mata had this project going for now, 3 months? Only 9 players have signed up, of which 2 are women who don't even earn that much compared to the men's game.

I know some football players will give money to charity in their own way but seriously 1% of their salary is peanuts compared to how much they. Once you take out the tax, NI and pensions it will work out like their giving just 0.5% anyway.

There will be quite a few more signed up to this but not announced yet, I guarantee. Like anything else, it makes more sense to space announcements out than reveal everyone at once. It keeps the story in the news to do it this way.

Did you read his interview in the article posted? He's wants to announce people who join slowly so then it keeps gaining coverage. There's plenty of people waiting to be announced, I think he's done very well getting it going and he's got some big names from different countries so it's exposure will be growing.

Just me who finds it a bit odd he's not managed to snag more teammates for his charity?

He's doing a slow roll out of names to keep it in the news, I think. Might see teammates joining as time goes on.

I just love him so much I want him to be at the club for eternity.
