Jorginho

In today’s market I think that Jorginho at €50m and €5m wages p/a as reported would be cheap rather than SMS being extortionate. United really should do all possible to snare him IMO.

Would not suit us, sadly he will suit you guys down to a tee though.

He’s worth building your team around. He’d be your best outfield player if you signed him and someone will this summer by all accounts.

I know that it hasn't been on display this season, but Pogba and Sanchez are comfortably better than him.

Those players mentioned in the last posts do not play all in the same role.
Weigl/Jorginho.
Fabinho
Fred
SMS

I’m talking about SMS. You brought him into this thread and I’m saying that he’s worth the 100m that Lazio want.
Maybe any further discussion should happen on the SMS thread to avoid confusion?

 Sorry. I understand why you consider SMS to be a fantastic player. Thought you were talking about Jorginho and was very confused since he's a good player but not that good.

~€50m for a very good No. 6 seems like a reasonable deal to me. It's around the same price being quoted for Weigel who much younger and Matic who left for a rival.
Looks like the going rate. No one is signing Savic at €100m.

Solid signng for City, as expected. Pep hasn't exactly set the world on fire with his CB signings but elsewhere he's done well. He'll probably be a great addition for them, good price too.

Maybe we’ll revisit this post in a few weeks time?
The Lazio Prez claims that he turned 100m down a year ago. I know these guys are sometimes very good salesmen but I genuinely believe that he’s the best player who’s currently available for transfer.
If you show a serious interest in signing him I reckon this place will go ballistic (in a good way).

He's a big talent, no doubt. Not really a natural fit with our current first-choice midfield options though, and if Fred comes in there's only really room in the squad for a young(ish) backup for Matic (and that definitely isn't Savic). I reckon he'll end up at Juve.

We should go for Neves or similar, since you look to have Jorginho wrapped up.

Cheers, i know nothing about either
Jorginho is more of a monochromatic midfielder, who uses his passing to dictate tempo, sort of like Carrick. Haven't seen much of Fred but from what people have said, he's more of like Herrera or Modric.good against the press, dribbler, moving the ball from one third of the pitch to the other very well.

Whos better him or fred? They similar players?

Better question would be, who suits which team better?

For me Jorginho would have been square peg for round hole had we signed him. He is very good fit for Pep's style of football.

Fred would fit both teams but for City it would be Jorginho > Fred but for ManUtd it's Fred > Jorginho.

Pretty much this. Nice and easy summary.

Jorginho being more of a deeplying playmaking CDM. Fred more involved and active to get the ball, running and moving around the field - a pure CM who tracks back and makes runs.

Another thing about Jorginho. I don't think he starts, at least not in the first few months of the season.
Is Fernandinho going with Barzil? If so, then he could start and probably cement his place without much fuss.

Do we need a Jorginho or a Fred type player more?

I have only seen Fred play once and that was vs City and looked average/decent at best but obviously that is only one game and based on what other people say and from the YouTube videos I watched, he looks like a very quick B2B midfielder who can drive forward between the lines and play a forward pass. He is left footed too so can play on the left of a 3 man midfield. So maybe he is needed more than Jorginho who is a ball playing midfielder. I have seen Jorginho play a few times and he is a an outstanding passer of the ball and really reminds me of Carrick!

However, I was dreaming of the following 3 man midfield :(:

----- Jorginho -----
--- Fred --- Pogba

Fred and Savic might be too similar in order for us to sign both?

Yea but tbf they play different positions. Jorginho is a Carrick/Pirlo type. He’s a DM, the last midfielder back but looks to control the play from the there. Fred isn’t a DM, he’s a true CM in that he links the DM with the AM. He can play box-to-box and has the license to roam.

So yea, there’s a difference in positions.

So Fabinho, Fred and Jorginho are all going for £40-50m. Meanwhile the Lazio CEO wants £100m+ for Savic
Torino CEO wanted 100m for Belotti. Look how that turned out. These Italians are greedy as feck.

Yeah they play different roles. Jorginho would be very bad fit for ManUtd as he isn't strong physically and he isn't strong defensively. At Napoli and at City his weakness won't be an issue because of style of play. They rely on possession and press. At ManUtd his lack of defensive ability will be more of a problem. Yeah he is like Carrick minus his defensive ability.

I'm just pointing out who fits which team better rather than what positions and roles they play.

Fred atm would be a better fit for us as he more of a workhorse moving all over the pitch.

Yea he can definitely push the pace offensively and retrieve balls and press defensively.

I have a feeling he’ll be a fan favourite very quickly.

Do you mean metronomic or is he, like, an albino or something?

Yes no chance at all of Fred and Savic. If we sign another midfielder after Fred, I expect he'll be a young #6 with a similar skillset to Carrick.

It's hard to find a young player who has a similar skillset to Carrick as it takes time for players to understand the game better and be able to control games effortlessly.

Weigl from what I have seen is good at it considering his young age but haven't seen enough of him plus I do not think he is attainable.

He would be one option. Neves perhaps another.

Mild reports that Thiago might be available if the price is right. Unconfirmed of course but it won't take long by Bayern to quash rumours if it were untrue.

Right I need a rant. A muppet rant.

Now to be fair I don't know enough about either Fred or Jorginho but I am still confused why we are passing on the latter instead of the former, and really hope Mou knows what he is doing. As to the shallow depth of my knowledge on both players.....

I have seen the game highlights of Jorg vs Man City; he looked brilliant, like Carrick at his very best but played the ball quicker.
I have seen the game highlights of Fred vs Man Cirty; he looked awful, and I mean Memphis awful.

Now one swallow does not a summer make, but from the general hightlights Jorg looks a seriously intelligent and highly rated player. He breaks up play brilliantly without ever leaving his feet, and pings around fast one touch passes. Fred looks more of a box2box destroyer who can go on surging runs but his highlights don't tell me anything about his game intelligence or consistency.

Now I've seen it written that Fred fits us better and that Jorg fits City better.... sorry? what? Jorg at this juncture is more highly rated and proven. Also when Mou said he needed a Carrick replacement, then there is Jorg who people says plays very much like Carrick, then you think the player on the market who plays very much like Carrick would be a great Carrick replacement. Now granted I do not really understand what a Mou team needs, but United teams (and I am talking United not Pep) have prospered with a Scholes or Carrick in the side. They slow things down, they speed things up, and generally control the flow of games. Arguably Jorginho and Matic would be competing for the same spot but there is no way that he cant be a player that fits us for the long term.

Now I am just praying that Jorg doesn't become a dominant regista for City and Fred becomes the next Essien. Otherwise I might just lose my shit.

EDIT: I JUST WATCHED FRED'S OTHER PERFORMANCE AGAINST CITY. YEAH HE'S NOT BAD. THINK I WILL CALM DOWN NOW........

Jorginho plays in Matic role. He could very well be better than Matic here(i dont think so), but it would not be a big improvement to justify to spend the money.

In the other hand Fred can play in a midfield with Matic and Pogba.

Also, for people who do not watch Shakhtar for obvious reasons, they think Fred was awful against City because he was terrible in the first 20 minutes(and all Shakhtar team) when City was pressing them to death. But he was the only one with courage to pick the ball in the defense and try to play. During the game he could adpat to that pressure and they defeated City. He played many other games in the Champions League and was very good. But i understand why people is concerned. After that awful game Guardiola tried to sign him, it was confirmed by Shakhtar president last week.

Now an opinion: Jorginho can't defend. "Oh, but his defensive stats are good". His stats look good because Napoli defend with the system, not with the player. Everybody will press and Jorginho is the guy to "collect" the ball. Watch him playing for Italy under a different approuch. He can't defend. Its not a problem for City because its exactly how they play and Jorginho is an uprgrade on Fernandinho in terms of passing abilities, but it would not work for teams like United, Chelsea, for example.

Whos better him or fred? They similar players?

Jorginho is more of an artist with graft in him.
Fred is a more of a grafter with art in him.
Jorginho is more of a specialist.
Fred is more of a generalist
Jorginho is already rated
Fred is just being rated
Jorginho is not going to the World Cup with Italy
Fred is going to the World Cup with Brazil

Your post and a beer has calmed me down. Cheers.
