Jorginho

Is he similar to Carrick?

Yes quite similar. Very good range of passing, can dictate the tempo of games from deep in midfield, positions himself intelligently. He's also not especially quick/mobile.

I think he'll be a great player for City, unfortunately, and will slot into their system with lots of fluid one-touch play in midfield. He might have struggled slightly with the more disciplined, physical role Mourinho's holding midfielders are generally tasked with playing.

Totally agree but that reserve side ain’t going to play much so might not be such a happy Camp. Plus Foden should not even be mentioned as he barely had any minutes so I would not count him. We have saw more of Mctominay this season.

Everyone but Jorginho going to the World Cup and Silva turns 33 halfway through next year, so I think they need 5 main midfielders for 3 spots with all the games they play and Gundogan being a crock.

When he was discidiscu the way he'd like his new team would play, he pretty much described the opposite of how we play.

Possibly... though foden is 3 and a half years younger than mctominy and I suspect (unless they loan him out) we will see him get more games next year at city... even if it's league and fa cups and some easier cl games I suspect we will see him a lot more regularly... that said I think a loan might actually be best for his development

Not really positionally but his passing is on par. Very good player in the right set up though. Great composure about him but needs time and space imo to be at his best. Will be interesting to see how he does in the premiership with the pace of the league and set up of teams completely different. But very good player.

Quite.

Very good one/two touch stuff.

Thanks ❤

Pity he doesn't seem likely to come here. I did like the look of Weigl as a Carrick replacemet, he was all over the shop this season so I don't think he'll be up to job.

Surely Lazio can't sell him and Savic in the same season? That's half the midfield they have to replace though both sales will rake in a lot of money for them

Jorginho plays in Napoli

I will prefer to sign Jorginho instead of Savic or any other midfielder. ( assuming Verratti or Thiago are not available)

The fact that they first enquired about busquets and were put off by the price tag would suggest hes definitely the one they are after

If he lands in city, I find it very hard to even think we have any decent chance for a title fight next season.

The more we devolve away from our ethos of having top players in the midfield who can open up any game in one flash we are going to struggle next season as well no matter how much we spend on. Matic just does not pass the ball good enough. Carrick took one pass to open up midfield the other day vs Watford and that's the kind of passing range is needed for us to improve and have any shot of a title fight next season.

Not very optimistic at all with Mourinhos view of our midfield targets. Our board must not be blind to the fact that we seem to be going away from what made us successful for decades. Jorginho is the only midfielder I think will get us to be dangerous on the ball , if he lands in city I think they will retain the title even if we improve from this season.

Seems like we will be signing Fred and as a partner to Pogba and Matic, it will be a deadly trio under the right management. It would probably be on paper, the best midfield we have had since Carrick/Scholes.

However, it seems we are still missing a Carrick/Scholes/Kroos/Busquets type of player that can link the defence and attack with one single pass. In the transfer market, Jorginho is the closest to that type of player.

Man city seem to want Jorginho after Man utd turned their interest on Fred, when in reality Jorginho is the player they should be going for anyway. They did the same thing with Sanchez and look at him now. Man city seem to be bluffing and united getting the worse end of the stick. Not saying Fred is bad, but I would rather Jorginho when you analyse our main problem in midfield; Pogba tends to try collect the ball from deep because Matic doesn't have the ability to put the midfield splitting pass to the attacking third.

What's the point of passes that take out a midfield when the midfield you're trying to split is only 10 yards in front of their own box with a line of 4 to 5 defenders behind them or next to them?

United haven't really had too many issues against teams who want to play against them. It's the teams that have that lower block and defend from inside out. If Fred can position himself higher up the pitch but be aware of his positioning when the ball is retained, his eye for a pass is down to his awareness and anticipation of playing the ball into space once the opposition's attack has broken down and now their shape is distorted.

What happens when Pogba and Fred are in between opposition defence and opposition midfield and are basically trying to find space within this 'low block'? Who would be having the ball to pass to them? That would be Matic. This is when problems start to arise.

*I am not saying that it is all down to Matic because Smalling, Jones and even Bailly are not great passing defenders and that is crazy considering the stature of our club. Alderweireld will be a great signing in that respect, and I would rather him passing forward than Matic, and that says a lot.

Sounds City bound.

I’ll be honest I know very little.

Mixed reviews in here.

Pep stock piling/planning for the future it seems. Like Bernardo Silva I cant see Jorginho getting too many games next season as I cant imagine he's at the moment an upgrade on your current midfield trio but David Silva is approaching the end...

This. We obvious need a midfielder who can drive the ball forward with a pass on him but put the world rate in when required (Fred). Our main problem? as mentioned above is breaking down the bus. 2 full backs capable of attacking (Sandro & Sidibe) and a RW who can beat a man or whip a ball in (Willian?) in theory, will fix our problem.

Keep your full backs wide at either side of the 'bus' and they drag players out of position, thus opening up space to attack (just watch City. Perfect example.

So ya.. back to Jorginho. I think we're better off with Fred just due to our needs. Not to discredit Jorginho, he looks a baller.

Jorginho would get plenty of games, Fernandinho is 33 an will be 34 by the end of next season.

Yup, we definitely need a box-to-box player more, a Fred type of player. However, in certain games we still would require a player who can control the tempo of the game, like Jorginho/Kroos/Verratti. Since we probably need to sign 2 midfielders, we should go for Fred and sign another ball-playing midfielder. That way we have different type of options for different types of oppositions. Would also give us plenty of depth in the midfield in case players pick up injuries or need resting.

Unbelievable passer of the ball, and great at dictating the play. As has already been mentioned, similar to Carrick. Will be a great signing for City or whoever gets him.

42m seems ridiculously cheap.

I wonder if Napoli will suddenly be getting some sponsors linked with Monsour.

Wouldn't put it past the sneaky feckers. Seems like every player city sign, regardless of whether they’re really good or bang average seems to cost them between £40-50m

So he's a ball playing, quick passer that can dictate games? I'm a bit envious if so..

So Fabinho, Fred and Jorginho are all going for £40-50m. Meanwhile the Lazio CEO wants £100m+ for Savic

Even more incentive for them to do it with PSG getting into trouble with FFP

In today’s market I think that Jorginho at €50m and €5m wages p/a as reported would be cheap rather than SMS being extortionate. United really should do all possible to snare him IMO.

We are not in for a no.6. If we were to get a no.6 it would be an understudy for a few seasons like Weigl who would take over Matic when his contract finishes.

He’s worth building your team around. He’d be your best outfield player if you signed him and someone will this summer by all accounts.

Seems like a WUM to me. Pogba and Sanchez are probably our best outfield players (but finished the season poorly).and having watched Jorginho a lot this season he has not produced the same level as Pogba did in Seria A.

I’m talking about SMS. You brought him into this thread and I’m saying that he’s worth the 100m that Lazio want.
Maybe any further discussion should happen on the SMS thread to avoid confusion?
