John Stones | Everton say they will reject all bids

Cool.

I don't agree with you, but to each on their own. I think that within 3 years, one of them will leave the club and the other will be a backup.

Staying fit is very important. As Rafael would tell us. As long as they aren't able to: a) stay fit for at-least 30 league games for season; b) don't do stupid decisions while playing; c) be significantly better than they are now, they won't form a great partnership for us and United won't win titles with them as our main defenders.

totally agree with you...

Been diabolical today. That's the U21s and this game I've watched him play consecutively and he's been shite in all of them.

It would be fun to buy Stones to keep him away from Chelsea, loan him to AC Milan or some CL team in Germany, or if he can beat out our other CBs sell Smalling or Jones to Arsenal and play Stones. Just so long as it doesn't involve Chelsea.

Cahill was terrible and still is according to many, yet Chelsea don't concede much. Stones will be fine, he just needs to keep his arms out when he dives to block shots.

That's more to do with the fact that Chelsea play a line as deep as physically possible, yet Cahill still manages feck-ups every now and again. I'm sure he will, as would many CB's be protected in that system, but I just can't be dealing with inane nonsense saying he's better than our CB's.

Agree with this. Can't see the hype and for £30m we should steer well clear. I've never seen him play at a level suggesting he's a good as that price tag.

Roberto Martinez has expressed his disappointment at Chelsea making comments to the press regarding John Stones.

Speaking following Everton’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Asia Trophy final, Martinez said: “There is no issue from our point of view, John Stones is our player and we are not a selling club.

“It is a disappointment to see a club make comments to the press about our player with regards to a bid.

“That is not how we would do it. We don’t comment to the press on players that are registered with other clubs.”

What were the comments from Chelsea about Stones?

Martinez is just a softy - but i'm guessing he means that the 'leak' is from your end.

What is this, the third time Martinez has moaned publicly about Chelsea on different occasions? Used to like him but he's become a whining baby.

We made no comments about Stones at all.

I guess Martinez is saying Chelsea leaked the story of the bid to the press to try and unsettle Stones. Still, Martinez needs to grow up - this is how transfers work.

Maybe the unsettling has worked and that's why his jimmies are rustled.

You should have a look the Everton forum Grand Old Team. Those guys reckon Stones is worth over £50m.

It's hilarious. They keep using David Luiz as a benchmark.

No matter what you think of the guy he is one of the most famous and marketable players on the planet, is one of the faces of the most famous national team in the world, is a CL winner, and was sold to a desperate PSG side who wanted badly to pair him with his Brazilian teammate. Luiz has played at the pinnacle of world football for years.

Stones is just a kid who hasn't done anything yet.

Stones is class and in 2 years time we'll be looking back at this wondering why we weren't interested in signing him ahead of our current lot.

To 'us' he's worth ~50m, his market value isn't though, it's more like 30ish considering all factors. It's like Benteke for Villa. Is he worth 30-40m? Probably not, but to Villa he's definitely worth that.

£50m is obviously ott but he should certainly go for a fair chunk. Anything less than £30m would be a steal given the money the likes of Shaw and Sterling have gone for.

Everton fans may think he is worth £50m, but realistically, Chelsea won't pay that much and Everton will accept a lot less than £40m.

I'm not disagreeing with that - well, the latter i am because we've categorically rejected 20m quite easily so it's going to take at least 10m more to obtain him.

Mourinho knows full well that he has caused enough of a shit storm for this transfer to go through. Just needs to get Stones to put some pressure on for the move and he's theirs.

Bill Kenwright will be begging Stones to leave if Chelsea bid £30m.

Trying to imagine how José would use him next season if we get him, though. No way he immediately displaces Cahill. What would signing him mean for the immediate future of Zouma?

Obviously Zouma will be part of the future of our defense and he's way too promising to sell. I just can't see him getting significant playing time next season if we spend a huge sum on Stones who would surely play plenty.

Might be that Zouma is used more in midfield for the time being. Either way I can't see him getting much gametime.

Chelsea should sign him and leave him at Everton for the year. Next season JT will be ready to wind down or retire, he will get more game time. Think it would be stupid to join Chelsea right now though, he won't play enough games and he needs that right now.

Cahill and Stones as CB pairing is a very good idea to be honest. It's a great backbone to build a team around.

As I said previously, Terry plays most games apart from easy home games when fit. Cahill plays 50%, Zouma and Stones play 25% each and the cup games and replace Terry when he is rested.

I think if Stones signs for Chelsea Zouma and him would be Terry and Cahill's backups with the hope that they will be their long term replacements. Zouma would probably spend another season helping out in midfield when not playing at CB and Stones would probably also be Ivanovic's backup when not at CB.

Stones and Zouma will be an incredible pairing and definitely signifies an intention to move to a more high pressing, possession based game.

Maybe in 3/4 years, but not yet they wouldn't

Everton won't get anywhere close to what they seem to expect, best case is to keep him and let him establish further before going away some summer in the future for a large amount. That's how this will go imo.

With José and now the club itself via the official Twitter account saying that we're after a defender as our last target I'd expect this to get done next week IF Stones himself pushes for the move.
