John Stones | Everton say they will reject all bids

Handed in a transfer request.
so there'll be a nice little meltdown from Martinez and Kenwright in the media, and then they'll happily take the big cheque.

Chelsea certainly spending big now that Abramovich has seen he had to do so to keep the bandwagon rolling.

Let's gazump Chelsea. Money ain't an issue and this kid is quality.

If Van Gaal wasn't so obsessed with centre backs playing on the side of their strongest foot, then I think Stones at LCB. with Smalling at RCB would be a class partnership.

Indeed. You'd have though Stones would be a very LVG type CB given how good he is on the ball too.

Hopefully Everton reject the transfer request like West Brom did for Berahino. Two English players I'd love us to get as well. :(

Eh? I bet Mourinho could take a big shit in the centre circle and people would say it was a masterstroke.

Well he did everything he could to unsettle the player while breaking every ethical code there is to break without violating any rules. Everton tried to play him for more money but looks like he'll get his player for the price he wants to pay. He's dirty but he got his things done.

Three games into the season, game against Spurs on the weekend. We'd be barmy to let him go unless Chelsea put in a top dollar offer - which they don't seem to have intention of doing as they've been steadily upping the price - as we are short enough in defence as it is.

EDIT: We also play Chelsea the game after don't forget. :nervous:

We should be all over this.

Didn't think we would be, but represents a chance to get stick one back on Chelsea, will we go for it?

What would you consider a top dollar offer for Stones?

Also quite surprised he's done this as he didn't seem like the type of bloke, but i suppose money and a big club is too powerful to resist these days, which is a huge shame.

Berahino also handed in a transfer request. Masterstroke from Pochettino?

Unsettle the player? Chelsea will have been talking to the players agent for weeks. Mourinho has little to do with it, despite this kind of God-like power people want to ascribe to him. A player wanting to live in London on massive money and play in the CL is perfectly understandable. And Everton will happily pocket the money despite all the sanctimony.

Mario's just handed a transfer request to Liverpool.

If Everton actually reinvested the money £40m+ would be a great deal for Stones.

If he wants a move, I'd hope that we'd be in for him. Given Chelsea have been openly courting him, maybe Everton would be more willing to deal with us (esp. if there's the chance of players going the other way).

We wouldn't be a bad option for him either -- he's from just over the Pennines so it'd be an easier commute to visit family / friends. Last I heard his girlfriend was still living over this way, though that might have changed.

It's a sad and stupid move. He's young and will play every game he's fit for at Everton. Moving to a Chelsea team that Kouma barely gets a game in is just silly.

of course it is. Better to be quick and do the deal now, than make a big song and dance and leave less time for new transfers.

Indeed. I wonder if Chelsea will go for that though. I imagine they'll try to hold out until deadline day and then make that sort of bid which our board would most likely accept leaving us scrambling to find a CB.

Don't forget Jose's wonderful pedigree with young footballers.

It appears likelihood of trophies + huge salary trumps all though.

I can see him dislodging Cahill sooner rather than later.

Come on Woodie - Mourinho has already explained exactly how you do it, word-for-word:

I asked: 'Is it true that you want to leave Everton?'
'Yes, it's true. I love it here. It's my home, but it's time for me to move.'
'Did you sign already for another club?'
'Almost, but not yet'.
'Do you want to come here?'
'Yes, I want.'
