John Stones | Everton say they will reject all bids

What's the point in haggling over a few million if it doesn't give you time to get a quality replacement/forces you to panic buy? Not saying that's the case here but we've seen it happen frequently in the past.

Anyone know how long he has left on his contract?

Maybe if Chelsea are be made mugs of (£45M is way too much IMO) they will make do with Cahill and Zouma with JT as backup for another year and get him for a bit cheaper

He has a contract until 2019.

Won't really be a few million. If we are rejecting 30m, starting him in both games and leaving it this late we clearly think he's going to stay unless Chelsea offer silly money.

Shaw costs that much. And Stones has had more first team experience. No wonder Everton want more. It will be superb if United could nick this deal, though. This is much more sense than buying Ramos or Hummels.

Put it this way: Jones was very exciting and redcafe plus United fans in general were ecstatic with his signing. He was every bit as mouthwatering for the caf muppets as the new flavour of the month Stones is. We were convinced he was the future England captain and an allround super defender who could play a bit as well (especially in the first few months when he went on marauding runs every now and then people rubbed one out onto their comp screen). fastforward a few years later and he has become the butt of all the snide and sarcastic jokes associated with clumsiness/being crap/brainless/hoofball/fugly facial expressions.

So Jones, once heralded on the caf as a supertalent and afforded the same treatment slackcutting as any new shiny toy we purchased coming with glowing reviews, has been discarded like a used condom a few years later. So while 50% of the diehard muppets who simply thirst for the thrill of posting "cock out" and hunger for newer and shinier condoms to fill up, the group of more down to earth, controlled and prudent thinking man's poster remain sceptical in an intelligent and healthy manner. I belong to the latter category.

That's just plain BS. Stones has shown more talent than Jones ever done. He isn't just 'flavor of the month'.

He's actually right.

Stones is hardly 'flavour of the month'. He had a solid debut season and a very good second season and has started well in his third campaign. For a young CB playing for a better than average club he's done very well. He's not suddenly became desirable.

I do not follow whole we should not go after John Stones because Phil Jones was just as highly rated when we signed him and he is not worked out bizarro logic I am seeing on this thread. One I do not think we can write off Jones as a flop. And most importantly Jones and Stones are completely different people and players. Being English CBs is the only thing they have in common. Jones supposedly failing has no effect on Stones chances here. It seems silly as the "we should never Argentinian threads" we saw here earlier in the summer.

Was mainly talking about him in contrast to Phil Jones at the time. Also highly rated to the point where Fergie once suggested he may wind up being the best player he's ever had (paraphrasing).

I didn't get the people excitement when we signed Jones. And his time here at best, when he played in midfield; thus the label of 'New Duncan Edwards' coming from, but never as a CB. I've never rated him as a CB, and I don't see it will change in the near future either.

With Stones, you can clearly see his potential. Although he might also end up as Evans, but more than likely he'd turn into world class CB.

Just like we overpaid Shaw, we shouldn't be deterring on overpaying one of the best young English CB with high potential as Stones.

... £45M is way too much IMO ...

As of 2 years ago - and adjusting for football prices inflation (Transfer Price Index: TPI) - the fee paid for Rio Ferdinand would have been just under £70m. Add on two more years of TPI and that figure would probably reach around £80m now.

So on that basis, is £45m for Stones way too much?

Just shows how mental things are in the football world

Things like the TPI can be a bit misleading as they assume a linear relativity, but broadly speaking you're correct.

Yeh smalling is shite on the ball.. He is playing exactly the way van gaal wants him to. Just because he doesnt pass centrally does not mean he cant be a relatively calming influence in defense with his passing to the wings and the passing inbetween him and blind.

We better sign this lad now FFS

If we offer Everton £30m plus Evans to bring Stones here instead of seeing him end up at Chelsea for the next decade then it should be a no brainer really. Is it over the top for a player of his age? Absolutely it is but the fact is unfortunately that's how much English clubs can charge these days for the best young talent. I say it's worth the risk and would make us feel one hell of a lot better about losing out to them over Pedro too, come on Woody make it happen. We need cheering up!

The last centre-half we spent silly money on went on to look like a bargain. No reason this lad wouldnt either. £40 million is what players like that cost these days which isnt suprorising given that the PL is awash with money.

I'm not convinced he's worth the dosh. If we have £30 odd million to spend, I don't think it should go on Stones.
Weren't you linked with Umtiti for a bit? He seems a bit more of a Mourinho defender, although I assume his height may be an issue. He's a bit of a beast physically with a great leap, though.

Wouldnt mind signing him now to get one back over Chelsea as they have mugged us off.

We have a makeweight in Evans we have cash, if he is that good lets get him in.

I reckon United, and maybe others, are waiting to see if Chelsea can agree a price with Everton and - if they do - we will go in and match (or almost match) it and then it's up to Stones where he wants to go.

Nah.

We're not going to go in for him this summer, it's pretty evident that LVG will stick with the defense he has and re-evaluate next season.

Would also be good for Stones to have one more season (at least) at Everton and further develop his game. In the meantime, we should give Everton Evans on the cheap and ask for first option on Stones in the future.

Don't think so. I very much doubt we are interested in Stones.

if we don't get a CB in, why sell Evans? He is experienced and pretty good.

I don't see him getting much game time. Smalling/Blind/Rojo/Jones/McNair are all ahead of him.

Would rather sell him for 5/6M this season, as opposed to seeing him play a few times and going on a free the following season.

Hold on please Everton. If not, at least spend 15million of your precious funds for our Evans :wenger:

Don't even care what we offer. Just get him.

Offer them Evans plus cash. Will be better deal so late for them compared to just cash from chavs.
