John Stones | Everton say they will reject all bids

The best thing for John Stones right now is to play regular football and at Everton he can do that week in week out without having too much pressure on him, if he went to one of the top 4 he will be under scrutiny every week and sometimes being so young that could effect him and some weeks he might not be 1st choice.

If United did sign him, I'd like us to loan him back for a season to let him develop further.

Actually depends on his mentality... he might rise to the challenge and become an all-time great, he might flounder, he might do okay but top four is just a bit too high... thing for me is he will not guarantee upgrade us. So like Jones we will splash for a potential of greatness and honestly we have so much English potential in the back line I think the money better spent on a proven upgrade or some offense.

I was thinking last night that this is the kind of transfer that would have been typical for us 10 years ago and we would all have been excited about.

Why is there not more clamour from our support for us to try and sign a potential England regular of the next decade, who is playing at a non CL club and plays in a position where we need some long term solutions?

Is it due to the way Jones' career has panned out here to date? Or is it that we feel our situation of the past two seasons means we now require an experienced player at their peak and not one for the future? Signings like this in the past would be coming into a title winning side rather than tasked with getting us to that level in the first place so perhaps there is more risk.

In truth I wasn't keen on signing Stones either but unable to justify why.

Probably just because we still have a 22 year old Jones. 5 years down the line Stones and Jones might be England's number 1 partnership. In that case we saved £35m.

Put it this way: Jones was very exciting and redcafe plus United fans in general were ecstatic with his signing. He was every bit as mouthwatering for the caf muppets as the new flavour of the month Stones is. We were convinced he was the future England captain and an allround super defender who could play a bit as well (especially in the first few months when he went on marauding runs every now and then people rubbed one out onto their comp screen). fastforward a few years later and he has become the butt of all the snide and sarcastic jokes associated with clumsiness/being crap/brainless/hoofball/fugly facial expressions.

So Jones, once heralded on the caf as a supertalent and afforded the same treatment slackcutting as any new shiny toy we purchased coming with glowing reviews, has been discarded like a used condom a few years later. So while 50% of the diehard muppets who simply thirst for the thrill of posting "cock out" and hunger for newer and shinier condoms to fill up, the group of more down to earth, controlled and prudent thinking man's poster remain sceptical in an intelligent and healthy manner. I belong to the latter category.

 Brilliant and I agree. The Jones hype was something incredible and while he's still very young for a CB at a top club, the hype has died down and now we want the next one. I see Stones needing a lot of work on his game still, but at Everton his every mistake won't come under as much scrutiny. It would probably serve him well to stay there for at least another season.

If Stones is going to leave Everton in the near future then it should be for us. Manchester United should always be in for the best English/British prospects like we often have been (Rooney, Rio, Shaw, Jones and the Bale chase).

Starting to become a serious amount of money. I really like him, imagine if Barkley has 1 good season how much he'll go for. Makes me worried for trying to buy Kane in the future too, or any english potential signings.

The thing is it'll just force the players into making themselves look like spoilt brats, and they'll force moves a bit like Sterling. Even though Liverpool were getting an already inflated price for him.

Stones seems to be keeping quiet on it, but another good season and his value will go up again. So much money for a relatively unknown this time last year.

Can't believe how stubborn Everton are being here.

Why? It's late in the window and if Chelsea are bidding a third time they clearly want him. They're trying to get the best fee possible should he leave this window. If they have faith in the player then barring an injury his price is not going to depreciate should he stay.

For some reason people on here dont think smalling is a ball playing defender. I think the opposite and rste his passing ability quite highly.

However i also feel we have too many ball playing defenders and only really 2 'last ditch defenders'. Question is, what do we need more of if any at all?

I can see where you are coming from. Nothing to do with football, but I myself rate Justin Bieber's singing ability quite highly. #highfive #thuglife

Stop wumming.

I rate Smalling highly, but his sub-par passing is a problem that will cost us at times. In the first two games this season his passing has been noticeably erratic. Against Villa he passed the ball straight to on of their forwards which resulted in one of their best chances of the game. He also hoofs too much under pressure.

Can we change threat title to |30m bid from Chelsea rejected

Three bids. Usually it'd be done by now. Granted in the increased offers haven't been huge rises, but still.

You find it funny? Thr only time his passing is erratic is when he passes to the left of the field. Its why van gaal prefers a left footed player at LCB because they should be able to pass under pressure to players who can move the ball forward like the fullbacks and the wingers.

Funny thing is about the lack of tactical knowledge of some of you.

Bet some of you are crying over the fact city are getting otamendi when he really wouldn't suit us neither.

Likewise stop wumming yourself. Theres a reason van gaal is playinh smalling and blind in defence because they can occupy the flanks with ease and pass out to the wide.

Compared to jones and rojo, smallings passing is better than beibers singing. His s yet to cost us a goal, his passing has been erratic only when under pressure due to him normally being the last man whenever blind is caught off guard.

Either way, his passing might not be on point but to disregard him as a player who doesn't pass at all is wrong too.

Smallings passing and control is his biggest downfall. I think it's ironic you talk about a lack of tactical knowledge whilst praising Smalling as a ball playing defender.

He's a great athlete, and hard to beat 1v1, but a ball player he is not.

He prefers having a left footer because it's easier for them to fill in wide when the #6 drops in to receive the ball.

Which is what i said. Similar to how the 352 works with the number 6 as the central defender. Smalling's passing is only bettered by blind and evans with the latter having even more down fall; so is smallings passing bad for you because thats his only imperfection? Or are you saying he is completely rubbush as a ball playing CB?

His lack of composure on the ball, erratic passing and hoofing sort of indicate he isn't a ball playing defender.

Why the hell should we roll over and let a club have him? He has 4 years left on his contract and he's a bloody huge talent. Quite rightly we are telling everyone to feck off unless they meet our valuation and if they don't meet it? Brilliant, we can keep him.

Chris Smalling is posting on the Caf now I see, awesome! Woody should be off the Merseyside with a bag of cash in one under one arm and Evans tucked under the other.

So surprised we havent been linked with him or put a bid in. They're going to need cover, we have Evans we can use as bait, why are we not trying to get this done. However Martinez may not want Evans for the same reason as we dont, just the links and rumours circling would suggest different.

I assume Stones has said I will only leave for Chelsea hence the lack of bidding from other clubs including City (who need English). Which is odd if he's an Everton lad you'd think he may want to stay local ish.

He's from Barnsley. He's had to move to go to Everton. They signed him from there.

If we do get a defender I think we need to be looking for an organiser and leader of the back line (especially as De Gea is almost certainly off either now or next summer).
As good a prospect as Stones is he does not have the experience needed to martial our backline in the CL (shaw no CL experience, Darmain no Cl experience, Romero a few games? Smalling about 20 games)

Not a million miles from Manchester is it?

I'm comparing it to staying roughly where you know vs moving to London?! Didnt mean Everton lad as in, grew up there.

Have Everton put a figure on his valuation so far?

Nope, Martinez has repeatedly came out and said he isn't for sale, but i wouldn't be surprised to see him sold if an offer of 40-50m comes in as it may seem too good to refuse by the board.

And so far they've only bid £30m as far as you know ... is that right?

Odds on he's going - Chelsea will stump up enough cash in the end and maybe a couple of players going in the opposite direction on loan

Anyone know how long he has left on his contract?

Maybe if Chelsea are be made mugs of (£45M is way too much IMO) they will make do with Cahill and Zouma with JT as backup for another year and get him for a bit cheaper
