John Stones | Done Deal

Stones is shite defensively but good on the ball which essentially makes him a shite centre half. All the while Blind is a great centre half. Redcafe logic.

They're both average CBs.

Another shaky performance yesterday.
City should just pay the money and be done with it.
Considering his form, signing him when the season has started and he hasn't had time to gel with his teammates could lead to more mistakes.

If John Stones is £50m... Holgate must be £80m?

I honestly thought Stones would have wanted a year playing under Koeman. In theory it could of been perfect for his development.

Moving to the title favourites and getting a bumper payday is obviously more appealing.

I wish we were in for him.

He has talent. He may have had a bad season, but I fancy hmain to become at least 'very good'.

I think moving to the best manager in the world is way more appealing than any of those things either of you have stated

If I was a player, I wouldn't like to play for Guardiola or Mourinho, to be honest. Must be really exhausting.

Just wondering, did you think Pep is the best manager in the world before you heard he's coming to City?

Surprise, surprise, City will pay up. Who would have thought.

Of course he didn't. I actually remember loads of City fans wanting Jose to take over from Mancini.

Same goes for our fans with Pep.

Is he the best manager in the world, or has he managed the best teams in the world up to this point?

I guess we'll find out this season.
This, This. I have always always always said Mourinho is the worlds best. Apart from his antics. I am willing to bet anyone also, that Ancelotti will win the CL with Bayern and also dominate Bundesliga.

Pep has managed Barca and Bayern for a total 446 games with a 72% win rate

Mourinho has managed Benfica, Uniao de Leiria, Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real, Chelsea. 765 games 66% win rate.

One of their CV's is p1ss easy, can you spot it?

Yes genuinely. I think he's a visionary and a purist, he personifies a lot of values I want in a manager for city too. There is literally no one I would prefer. The other manager I regard in similar acclaim is Simeone but his style isn't right for city and the way he sets his teams up isn't to my taste but he's an absolutely brilliant manager and in the top 3 for me.

You should read the Zlatan biography

It's really not an outlandish claim at all to say Pep Guardiola is the world's best manager, it's an opinion you can disagree with but it hardly merits ridicule. There's so many fantastic managers who've achieved wonderful things all of which have their own context and are impossible to really compare with other achievements. Anyway, as for Stones, I'm beginning to think City might walk away from the deal. If we were willing to pay the £50m, I think we'd have swallowed our pride by now. Unless Everton change their stance I'm not confident a deal will be reached.

Stones is obviously younger and has a lot of potential but at this point in time Ashley Williams is a better defender. And it's not even particularly close.

Surely there is another defender that they can buy for 50m, you know, one that can actually defend...

Id love for us to buy him right out from under Citys nose. Not sure he is what we need in defence to be honest but would almost be worth it for the laugh.

I wouldn't mind if you did. Mourinho's system would not play to his strengths whatsoever.

Hopefully not. He is not a good defender. We need senior CB, not only who might be good enough.

Well yeah, but he's had ten years longer to develop as a footballer, he should be better. Every time a club signs a young player for a big fee more than likely you can name a better and cheaper older player the club could potentially sign instead.

Delighted we're not interested in this lad. He's a poor defender. I couldn't care less how good he is with the ball at his feet either, he's just not a good defender. He'll be another overpriced let down like Sterling.

He was pretty bad on Wednesday but if that pre-season testy-moany-al game marks the pinnacle of achievability for the coming season by every player on the pitch … then we're in serious trouble too.

Stones has potential that is not being tapped right now and the £50m will be good for both parties TTYTT

Do I want him for that price … no! But then I don't want Pogba for 2.5x that price either!

True, we have several potentially good/great defenders on the books already, what we really need is a reliable, solid and experianced centre back. Who is also a bit of a thug when required.

Stones reminds me of Gary Pallister when we bought him ( for what was an astronomical fee back then ) .
Most pundits thought we had massively overpaid for this young centre back who liked to pay the ball out from the back ,looked prone to mistakes and a little lightweight when up against physical strikers .
He had a very difficult 1st season for us but once he settled he became a fantastic servant to the club and alongside Steve Bruce became one half of one of our best ever centr back partnerships ( close to that of Rio and Vidic ).I think stones is in the same mould and played with the right CB partner I think he will become 1 st choice for England for many years to come.
Alongside a physical presence like Bailey I think he would be a great fit for us ( far better than Smalling ) but looks like he is off to City , think he will be a great buy for them .
