Januzaj | Confirmed: On Loan at Dortmund

How reliable is SportBild? I'm assuming that it's just the sport section of Bild?

No, different offices, although the editor-in-chief of SportBild also works for Bild. The former is in terms of many clubs often less reliable than the latter, but in case of Dortmund there is not much difference as none of the two have good sources inside the club.

Having said that, at this point it is safe to say that there is no classic iron clad buy clause in the deal. No one knows if there are unofficial parts about the deal, but all of them would require United to agree to it next Summer, so the ball is deeply in your court.

The most interesting thing I have read about this deal in the last few days was, that according to Belgian sources and one of his agents, van Gaal and Co. prefered a loan deal inside the EPL, but Januzaj and his camp insisted on coming over here. If this is genuine, then the lad´s confidence is certainly not a problem, because he willingly chose the most challenging option (but also arguably the one with the most potential to learn).

This might work out well for him with a bit of luck. It will in the end depend on only him to use the chances he will be given to get sufficent game time.

The biggest treat for him will probably be, if one of our prefered targets become available in the Winter window. While from a financial standpoint basically a gift by United (no fee, split salary according to multiple sources), it was clearly not a deal at the top of our list. The timeline and nature of the deal clearly suggests, that it was a quick fix of a problem which came up rather suddenly, because plan A collapsed on the finish line and rather than panic buying on the last day we chose the option, which buys us time and at the same represents a good option on the pitch even if it is only for one season.

Fair play to him if he did insist on it.
If he gets the game time he'll learn a lot playing with players of dortmunds quality and you'd expect they'll take the europa league vaguely seriously which will be good experience for him too.

You can just see that we're gonna let him go. Terrible stuff by the club lately regarding academy boys.

Interesting comment in Andy Mitten's article about the Van Gaal/Giggs presser the other day.
Januzaj is going on loan (to Dortmund) to develop his personality, explained his boss. A break away from the video consoles and a few shocks to his system might be good for the Belgian.

Been a few rumblings about his attitude not quite being where it needs to be. Obviously Mitten's heard something along those lines too.

Erm, I hardly think a break from FIFA is going to help the lad. He needs to perfect his celebrations against the noobs online!

German media reports that van Gaal said that he gave Januzaj every chance to prove his his worth, but he neither at the beginning of this season nor during the last did he see enough proof of his quality. He apparently also stated that Januzaj needs to improve his attitude and that it is important for a youngster to play week in week out (:wenger:) and he supposedly also said that he already has his next project lined up at United in person of Pereira.

Keep in mind that they didn't put in direct quotes.

Correct. Well done. The clue is in the word "interesting".

Is there a joke you want to share? Fire away but I never had you down as someone with a good sense of humour.

Finally have the honour of being at the end of one of Pogue's "zingers".

That's basically a rehash of what the English journos have inferred from the press conference I referred to above.

Why did you use the :wenger: ? Because you don't thnk he'll get those games at Dortmund?

Because Mkhitaryan-Kagawa-Reus seems pretty set in stone for Dortmund right now, so unless one of them needs a break I don't see him starting matches anytime soon, especially if Dortmund have no incentive to develop him.

And I didn't see anything about van Gaal expressing doubts about Januzaj's quality, so I posted it.

You are in Europa so you could easily use him in cup competitions to give one of the three above a break.

Yes, Januzaj will likely get some starts against weak oppositions, but you hardly have those games "every week".

And Tuchel really hasn't been that crazy about rotation thus far either:

Cup game vs Chemnitz:
-Kagawa -Weigl
+Castro +Bender

EL-Q vs Wolfsberg(A):
-Kagawa
+Hofmann

EL-Q vs Wolfsberg(H):
no changes at all

EL-Q vs Odds(A):
-Kagawa -Weigl -Piszczek(injured)
+Kampl +Bender + Castro

EL-Q vs Odds(H):
-Aubameyang
+Hofmann

On average that's less than two (unforced) changes from his first team. Half the games Castro, someone with a lot of experience who was most likely initially signed as a starter to be Gündogan's replacement, didn't start.

With Bender, Subotic and Castro Dortmund have three older players with lots of experience who surely will have the ambition to be regulars for a decent side.

Ginter is a talented young player who Tuchel will have to find minutes for, because he is too far in his development to sit on the bench.

Tuchel will also have to give Ramos a lot of minutes, since he's their only (traditional) replacement for Aubameyang and as we all know strikers need confidence.

There also is Hofmann, who might not get many favours because he doesn't look like he's going to be a star, but he seems to have a very good understanding of the game and he has been quite effective as a sub, so performance wise he's no pushover, despite probably being quite unknown to foreign fans.

And obviously Dortmund also have a couple of their own talents which may or may not be ready for some minutes later in the season.

So even if we leave Januzaj out of the equation Tuchel already has a lot of players he will have to rotate in and Januzaj will have to earn every minute he gets.

Thats a very negative spin on what LVG said. He didn't say anything about not seeing his quality. Just said he need the loan to improve iphis attitude and Pereira takes his spot in the team for this year.

Is there video footage or at least direct quotes of what van Gaal said?

For those of you who want to follow Januzaj: today at 15.30 (CET) is Dortmund's next game.

I'm glad to see van Gaal said in his press conference that he still see's a future for him here. That would suggest that there's no option to buy in the deal we have with Dortmund.

They have said they have first refusal if United decide to sell. So no direct buy option

Kicker has him in their expected starting line-up, but I still think Hofmann will replace Reus. Maybe they´ll even pull Auba back and play Ramos up front. But either way Januzaj will definitely get minutes today.

He's going to learn a lot playing win top players and developing him self tactically. If he can get minutes, he will be a lot better for it and we could be getting back a very polished player. It's a lot better than a Mickey mouse club like Sunderland, playing shit football and enduring your fans jeer you every other week.

He said something like they know how talented Januzaj and Wilson are and have no intention of selling either, but equally they wouldn't progress sitting on the bench week in week out as they did last year.
Very good to hear.

The only thing that annoys me about him going on loan is how light the wing department at Utd is in terms of players. Other than that I don't think we'll see his quality as a footballer at all. He should have gone to a club with more chances of playing.

The irony is that he would have gotten decent game time here. Guess LVG just didn't fancy him.

Yup. Playing at Dortmund in front of the big stadium under an excellent manager like Tuchel is much better than playing for Sunderland IMO. Even if he gets less playing time, he'll still comeback as a more developed player.
