Januzaj | Confirmed: On Loan at Dortmund

I cannot believe that we have let him go on loan. He is capable of playing on both wings and through the middle. Unless Woody and Mr philosophy have a very large ace up their arses for deadline day then this could be a fatal error of judgement of epic proportions.

He will replace blaszkhd473kowsky sold to Fiorentina, and kampl. Surely won't play instead of Abumeyang, Reus, Mikitaryan

Signed as a turnover player, he could stay at United

Strange move, because he will not play every week there

Aubameyang is always healthy but Reus is coming off an injury trouble year and Kagawa has only played over 30 games twice in the last 6 seasons. Grosskeutz has left too.

If Januzaj can beat out Hoffman, Leitner and Ramos he'll be 5th choice for one of 4 attacking spots and the Europa League is crazy long. If there's no option to buy and that happens, the move will look good.

Not sure why we couldn't find a better loan, but this has potential to work out okay.

Auba/Ramos are the strikers.

Januzaj, Hoffman and Castro will back-up Kagawa-Reus-Mkhitaryan. Tuchel will rotate enough to get him games, but let´s be honest unless he goes crazy with his performances, it would be in Dortmund´s best interest to limit his appearances to lower a potential transfer fee.

Leitner is a whiny scrub that lacks the quality for Dortmund, possibly the Bundesliga. Theý´d let him go for free, but he doesn´t want to.

I am not impressed by him yet, looks like any other talented youngster IMO. Started out quite good under Moyes, but then faded into uninspiring performances. I hope he'll turn good though.

I gave up following the reserves after Rossi and Pique didn't make it...fans complain about Pogba but truth is he would never have been given time to fail and learn and grow in the first team anyway, you can add Januzaj to that list now.

Before LVG's arrival all we heard was how he loves working with youth, likes to promote from the youth team and hates spending on transfer...HA!

Good luck to Januzaj, i expect his chances will be limited but i am liking his number!

Any possibility that we have done this with a deal of first refusal on Reus or something? Can't see much sense in the deal at face value.

I´m probably going to regret this:

There is a tweet by Matthias Dersch of the "Ruhrnachrichten", who is after Freddi Röckenhaus ("Süddeutsche") the closest journalist to Borussia Dortmund. There he says that we have the opportunity to buy him next Summer without going into details, because this is all his sources have told him. Dersch does not have the reputation of bullshiting about such topics.

Now, if this would be a traditional buy clause the BVB would have obviously made it public with the signing. They left it completely open which is why most of the media does not have a clue and basically speculates at this point.

The question is if the clause is bound to certain conditions. Maybe it is meant to stay confidential to a certain point in time. Some speculate that it is tied to a big signing United wants to complete tomorrow and if they are successful (thus hurting Januzaj´s chances to play in the future), it activates the clause and if not they keep control over the decision where he plays after this season.

It could also be tied to a future signing of United. It is no secret that they had interest in Reus, Hummels and Gündogan for years. Reus is the least likeliest of them, though, simply because he does not appear to want to leave. He could have handpicked every club he wanted this Summer and instead turned down a huge amount of money to extend his contract. Why go through all this trouble to leave the next year?

Hummels is clearly someone who would improve United a lot, but currently gives of the impression that he wants to see where the yourney goes under Tuchel until he decides over his future.

This leaves Gündogan, who was already in talks with United this Summer but a transfer failed (appearantly because of wage demands on Gündogan´s side). Maybe United was not willing to meet his demands because there was doubt about his ability to return to absolute top form. Gündogan´s performances this season so far clearly indicate that he is on his way to meet said form, which might have sparked interest in United again.

The main reason why I see a buy clause as still possible is, that I can´t still wrap my head around the fact that United chose us as Januzaj´s club. To stay in the Bundesliga, why not Gladbach or Wolfsburg where he would have walked in the starting lineup and play CL? Why choose an EL club, whose front line is at the same time stacked enough so that Januzaj has no guarantuee to start replicating the same problem he might have had at United? Of all the clubs who might have been interested in loaning Januzaj, we were probably the ones which made the least amount of sense in terms of game time for him and thus his development.

this sucks...even more than Hernandez going for good. plus it makes no sense.

Really surprised at this move. I wouldn't have thought he would be a guaranteed starter over there, and would basically be in the exact same situation game time wise as he currently is at United. I can see benefit in loaning him out, but not to a club that isn't going to offer him anything more than we could have by him staying with our squad. I really hope he gets a loads of game time, because right now this looks like a bad choice to me. I'd much rather him go to a mid table club where he will play every week.

Strange that he went to Dortmund. A PL team would have been the better option IMO.

For one, said other teams have to be interested in Januzaj and since Wolfsburg just picked up Draxler I doubt they are. Gladbach could be interested, but he's not a fix to their problems either. Secondly, Adnan has to be interested in the club he moves to as well. Allegedly he turned down plenty of BPL clubs such as Everton to join Dortmund. Perhaps he heard great things about the coaching staff and their ability to develop players and hence picked the club. Granted he has the same chances of playing in Dortmund as he does with us, maybe he just doesn't get along with van Gaal that way and prefers Tuchel's style of football and coaching for his personal development?

Nonetheless, we'd be utterly stupid to add a release clause to his loan.

I think a loan would actually be good for him. He needs to play games regularly to develop, but our margins are really tight here. He does a couple of brilliant things during a match, but quite a few silly ones too. I'm not sure we can afford that right now.

Dortmund plays proper football, he'll be a better player when he comes back.

Dortmund is the ideal place for him to grow. Hope he gets game time and if he comes back he'll be that much better for the experience.

Januzaj going out on loan must mean we're going to get another player before the window closes. There's no way we'd risk having so few attacking players...

So you don't think their style of play suits him more than Van Gaals methodical keepball?
What's the point of their style of play if all things(so far) point to him finding it difficult to get match time? Unless if he's been sent to Dortmund to observe and note their style of play.

There's more to loans than playing time. Training and the overall experience can help bring a player out of his shell, somewhere that Adnan has clearly retreated to. Playing time will be up to him and his ability, which, if we're frank, wasn't going to get him games here anyway. It's a risk but one that the clubs and player seem to accept.

Well I hope you're right if that's what's holding him back. I can't help but feel that's basically it for him here. Hope I'm wrong.

With LVG at the helm, who knows!? I'd very much like for him to blossom and come back having reached his potential.

Gutted, hope he can break into the Dortmund team and develop more so we won't decide to let him. Still think he will be a real good player in the 10 role once he learns it better.

Basically, I agree with this. Januzaj burst onto the scene with a couple of big goals, but hasn't really ever kicked on from there. He got a good look during preseason and was given a chance at the start of the campaign, and it's obviously felt that he's not ready yet. He got a lot of publicity leading up to signing a new contract, in large part because Pobga wound his deal down and left for free. There's been more hype than production to this point. A loan may do him good. There's clearly talent there and it's too early to give up on him, so hopefully Dortmund didn't secure an option to buy.

What still puzzling, obviously, is why we'd add him to the list of departures without adequate replacements coming in. As it stands, the logic in all of this escapes me completely. What does seem apparent is that we're reducing the wage bill as much as possible. Januzaj is likely not seen to be justifying his wages at this point, which may be part of the rationale. We're just so desperately short of attacking options, though, it seems ill advised.

Gundogan has had injury troubles. Maybe Castro will end up having to play CM.

How's Hoffman been looking?

I wonder why we didn't just loan Januzaj to the other Borussia. They are in the CL and he'd probably get more playing time.

So he would be instrumental for our season yet not break it into the first XI at Dortmund?

I have full confidence in him. He is our youngster and we will not let him go, no way.

I've agreed with everything van Gaal has done so far. Even the Blind at CB thing, I've learnt to let it go. But this, this seems like a bad decision. LVG has spent a lot of time talking about how he wants Januzaj as a striker. If so, why is he letting him go to a team whose manager might not share that point of view? I get the feeling that van Gaal doesn't trust Januzaj, which is a pity because youth players are supposed to get a longer rope, especially in a club like United. There's also the point that we looked paper thin up front with Januzaj, wonder how it's going to be without him?

Januzaj has got a lot of trust from LvG. He started against City last year in perhaps our most important game and he has gotten many starts this season. However, he needs game time and in the situation we are in this season we will just not be able to give him the opportunities he needs, we have Fellaini and Herrera who will provide a lot more up front. The RW position is weird since we need pace, but i guess that is where Young will come into the picture. Januzaj is a gem (and our #11) but he needs minutes, and we just can't provide that to him this season unfortunately.

I for one am really glad this loan happened. For all the talents and skills he had shown when he broke through, he has been quite flat lately. Hope he gets game time there and comes back stronger. Good club for him

Good club for him if he gets plenty of games, from the Dortmund thread their fans reckon he's about 5th in the depth chart for the AM positions. Behind Reus, Kagawa, Mikhi, and Hofmann.
