Januzaj | Confirmed: On Loan at Dortmund

Well we might have been thinking about a loan if the right offer came in. Then Dortmund picked up the phone. He's potentially a great fit there.

I don't believe that TBH. If that was the case than the player would have been told about it before

who wanted him sold? quotes please or you are just making it up
Hard to find specific quotes now that we dont do megathreads but the general opinion was that he either needed to be sold or loaned out, this sentiment was repeated every time he came on and did virtually nothing because he struggled under LVG's system last year. More than a handful of people were starting to question his potential. Some may have been frustrated and went OTT but it is definitely a 180 change in opinion seeing as the majority are expressing their surprise and disappointment in this move.

My theory:

Januzaj has been acting up a bit in regards to how much he gets played. Wants to be playing games now and Van Gaal doesn't like the attitude of players who moan when they don't play. Prefers players who knuckle down and let their hard work do the talking. Probably promised Januzaj some game time to prove himself and felt he didn't do enough which is why he was dropped or "injured".

Januzaj has since pushed for a move away and got his wish. Would explain the late move for Martial and why he's seemingly leaving us despite being short. Club don't want players with bad attitudes here or at least players who don't want to be here or won't try their hardest.

Bit like the Welbeck scenario.

Certainly a plausible theory.

It does all seem very badly planned and thought out though.

That's what people said about Courtois when he was loving the life at Atletico. If he does well at Dortmund, he will be back at United.

But I do agree with others that I am not sure about this move. We have to be a club that can bring up and integrate talented young players.
Courtois to Atletico wasn't a weird move, though. They had a clear need for a 'keeper, Chelsea had Cech. By the looks of it, the agreement was for him to stay and develop while they kept Cech for a few Years. A huge help to both Atletico and Chelsea.
This is just a weird move. Especially for Dortmund. They generally don't just loan in players for one year.

The clubs are different. Atletico isn't a family club in the same way. They turnover players (key players) more than Dortmund.

Is there an option to buy yes or no?

I think two Bild reporters have said the opposite things to each other so am confused

This answer from Adnan sums up what a mess we are right now, it just seems like no one has a clue wtf is going on and that includes lvg

My German isn't what it used to be, but in that clip he hasn't said those words.

Bit like the Welbeck scenario.

Januzaj has time and again said he was happy to stay at the club and fight for his place. It was pretty clear after LVG's aston villa interview for me that he wasn't convinced though.

90% sure this move came from LVG's side and not Januzaj. Not to mention LVG seemingly is sucking at Squad and man management anyway.

 fecking crap. Everyone is pissed with what is going on but seriously, give LVG a break. I hate the way things are going on but the nonsense about Adnan not knowing he was going to go on loan till today morning stuff is so stupid. People are just waiting to jump on anything LVG does right now. Glad that people have said that the quote is not true.

Di Maria did a lovely interview in June about how proud he was to be United's 7 and how he couldn't wait to fight for his place.

Ignore what players say, they have a multiple choice of 32 options when they are asked a question by a journalist and "errm, I'm just happy the team won and we played well, scoring is just a bonus" wasn't the best choice for a change.

Yes. That's why I said it.

I thought you're playing the devil's advocate TBH. Lets agree to disagree on this. In my opinion the way we've worked around it is disgraceful and shortsighted. We need players like Januzaj at OT

He needs this, right now he's just not doing it for us

Leave Januzaj, but See LVG's interview vs Aston Villa. Januzaj said that he wants to stay definitely and it was only silly rumors about moves, LVG is asked about it and he is totally non commital and says he needs to be more consistent etc...

There's no way Januzaj after starting 4 games in a row would have forced a move at all. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever and his competition at Dortmund is probably more tough even.

And re Di Maria if LVG wanted and managed the situation well coaxing and talking to him in SAF sort of way, i am pretty sure he would have stayed. LVG would have probably sold even Ronaldo the first 2 times he wanted out if he was incharge at that time and Rooney/Cantona too. (Let alone flied over to plead to him to stay one more season on vacation.)

@do.ob Going back to our conversation in the morning. You were right. I hope he has a good season and comes back next year. I'm gutted with this tbh. :(

After reading a bit, it seems like the 2 major questions here are:
1. Is there any sort of option to buy for Dortmund?
2. Is this part of an eventual move for a Dortmund player?

If the answer to both is no, then it seems odd we'd loan Januzaj out to Borussia Dortmund instead of say Borussia MGB or Mainz or Hoffenheim or somewhere he'd probably start. Right now, Dortmund play:

Reus-Aubameyang-Mkhitaryian
---------Kagawa---------------

as their front 4, with Hoffman and Ramos getting sporadic minutes backing them up as nobody has been hurt yet. Kuba left today and the other attacking players (apart from them moving Gundogan or Castro up into the 10 role) are Leitner and Grosskeutz, who appears to be joining Galatasaray. So, really just Hoffman, Ramos and maybe Leitner, who was rumoured to be going off on loan.

Considering the amount of Europa League games (and DFB Pokal games) Dortmund are likely to play and that Tuchel is said to not really rate Ramos, this isn't as crazy a loan as it first seems. They really are a bit short of attacking cover. They'll likely hit at least 50 games and that's 200 attacking starts. No reason that with injuries, resting and rotation Januzaj can't beat out Hoffman and/or Ramos to be 1st or 2nd in line to backup at least that front 3 and get 25-30 starts for an excellent side under a good manager.

This is a positive development if Januzaj plays decent minutes at Dortmund. I think he may have been better served at a mid table Bundesliga club where he could get 2,500 to 3k minutes, but it seems he's not in Van Gaal's plans immediate or otherwise.

That's a pretty daft answer.
Also not true. Not sure what it is with people on the caf posting shit from random people with 100 followers to their name. That random girl doesn't know German. What januzaj said is the usual shite about wanting to prove himself, hopefully have an impact for the team and win trophies, like players always say.

Thanks for clarification. Twitter gives idiots credibility, somehow.

I can't for the life of me understand what we're doing with this one.

If nobody comes in to replace him then we've essentially replaced all of Van Persie, Falcao, Di Maria and Januzaj with both Memphis and (I'm assuming) Martial. Numbers wise, it's madness.

Absolutely baffling.

1. We need him here as we are short of attackers (for a big club, anyway)

2. Will he even get much playing time at Dortmund?

Good luck to him. Hopefully he will get some regular playing time and start to fulfill his potential

This is ridiculous but I'm starting to get used to the unexpected circus under LvG. Wouldn't suprise me if this decision was made after the Newcastle game
