James Rodriguez| Is considering his options

If we could get him and recoup half the money on a Mata sale, it's probably a good idea. James isn't perfect but only Ozil and Silva would seem to be more creative passers than him, with De Bruyne at a similar level. Gives Martial a long-term partner in the attack going forward. Either:

Memphis-Martial--------
-------------------James
----Herrera---CM-------
-------Schneiderlin-----

or

----------Martial-------
Memphis--James---RW
-Schneiderlin-Herrera-

look like exciting young front 6s and better options than what we have now.

Hmm. He's a quality player but I don't think he's been consistently impressive enough with his creative passing to label him only behind Silva and Özil. I'm assuming you're only talking about premier league there but I'd still put Cesc, De Bruyne, Cazorla and in-form Hazard above him in that area.

He's more about goalscoring and stumbling past defenders (I mean that in a good, Suárez-esque way) than creating.

Would be devastated if we signed him. Overrated and nothing special.

A player we actually need is someone who can change the game with a bit of mastery and skill with a goal from nowhere. In tight games when teams are sitting back and defending deep you need a player who can hit a thunderbolt strike and win the game, it's something we don't have and haven't had since Nani left. This guy fits the bill, problem though is that attitude, that was an important part of our recruitment drive under Sir Alex.

You lost me on this. Why compare him to Beckham?

Well, it's just my opinion and the comparation I've had in my mind the last 3 years

He's not pacey
Not a brilliant 1vs1 dribbler
He thrives in fast football with spaces where he can pin-point passes with his "glove"
He likes playing with 2-3 touches, mostly looking for passes forward
Somewhat creative player
Packs one of the best 30/40M shoots in the world, I'd bet an arm both have scored a lot of similar goals from that area
He's great at set pieces and an exceptional free kick shooter

James appears stronger to me (3/4kg more being 3cm shorter according to google sources) but Becks worked his ass 3 times more than James for his team. Beckham had a definite role for most of his career and when he had to play as a DM in Madrid he did well, James is a good 10 but his talents are getting wasted putting him as a RW where you limite 80% of his skills, Isco for example is better retaining the ball as a "modern" 10, though he usually slows his team tempo by doing that too much.

Rather have a goalscoring attacking midfielder.. Than the midfielder version of Berbatov. Looks good but what does he actually do. Infact I'll take it back. He's the Spanish Joe Cole.

Joe Cole could play some vertical football once in a while, Isco is more like getting Arteta and positioning him 20 meters ahead of where he has been playing all his career

James could be a good signing for United, IF we play 4-3-3 with 2 guys behind him and 2 wingers, IF he doesn't cost more then 30/40M, IF he wants to succeed in England, IF he develops a sentimental bond with the club.

Too many if's and possibly would cost twice what his real value is

It's seems even more radical with a 'transfer ban'.
Or rather necessary to boost the warchest for that one window they will get on appeal. It makes sense for them to sell three players who aren't exactly fitting in; Kroos, James and Isco then use the substantial amounts those will raise to balance and fill out the squad. Both Manchester teams could give them something in the region of £180m for those three which they could use to sign Sane, Pogba and a couple of squad players.

To be devastated if we sign James reminds me of a spoiled kid at Christmas.
The way the Caf works is there's usually two sides to an argument and then a third comes into play with Kevin's weird opinions.

He's more of an attacking midfielder/second striker in the Gerrard/Lampard/Muller mould, but players like Isco, Silva, Ozil and Thiago are what we desperately need. His biggest strengths are his movements into space and striking technique. He's not a great dribbler nor a particularly creative passer, he's not a player you'd expect to create something from deep. We have a dearth of creativity in the team at the moment. He will just be another Herrara/Mata/Kagawa if he signs for us. In short, another square peg in a round hole.

Overall, I think he is one of the most overrated players in the world today. A south american luxury player with a huge reputation and bad attitude is the last thing we need at the moment.

Seems like a gamble. Maybe at 40 mill.

We don't seem to do well with South Americans. I 'd hate for us to go in all giddy and plump down 70 mill and for him to want away after 8 months.

I know in Spain people are having a pop about his weight. He doesn't look fat but does seem slower than usual and very heavy running style. Love his long range shooting though. Depends who our next manager is. Could need a lot of work.

Yeah I would take a gamble on him for anything around 40m, anything over doesn't justify the work we'd need to put in to get him back to top form.

I think James to United is very likely if three things happen:
1. RM successfully appeal summer transfer ban.
2. Mourinho becomes the manager (mendes/Mourinho/Woodward ties)
3. Madrid successfully get Hazard as a replacement.

I think all three are likely outcomes...stay tuned.

I forgot about Cesc, but Cazorla and Hazard I don't think have the same combination of vision and weight of pass. Better dribblers, though.

De Bruyne makes excellent decisions on the break but against set defences I don't think he's that special yet. He'll probably get there. I think that somewhat describes James too.

I find James best trait as a passer is poise. He'll make an accurate, threatening pass in situations where other players would be thinking more conservatively, just trying to get a shot off or find any teammate.

The marketing department will be happy, one of the truly good looking footballers around.

Looks like one of those players who's going to have the same hairstyle throughout their career.

James is a bit special, he has a great technique, a great vision, good balance, he is quick and is clever but it seems that he isn't a dedicated footballer. When he gives his best, there isn't a player like him, he can score and assist a lot but most of the time, he is just somewhere else.

I think he is best if he can be number one. In Madrid, he is not even near number one.

He has the talent of a starter but he needs to act like one, he needs to give everything on the field.

This issue is so typical very talented players. They sometimes have trouble with focus. Messi and Ronaldo are prime examples of top players who never have focus issues.

We need fighters and battling types here he's got neither..

So we should sign 11 marouane fellaini's then?

Sometimes in the first 11 team it's nice to have a player with genuine flair, unpredictability and a little footballing ability.

Where did I say we should full the team with shit players? You are putting words in my mouth..
