I'm a big critic of him but he is unlucky not to make the WC along with the likes of Harvey Barnes. Sterling,Rashford,Grealish etc haven't exactly been brilliant this season.

Rashford has been miles better than Sancho and I have been a very vocal critic of Rashford during his underperforming period. Graelish drives the ball forward and at least attempts to do something with it.

Sancho has done nothing positive for months. He brings literally nothing to any team he is in at any point these days. No surprise he was not included.

Sancho has not been better than any of those players this season unfortunately.

Lets hope he works hard over the winter so he's ready to go when the league starts again.

Him, Garnacho & Martial will spend a good amount of time together in training. Could allow our world cup playing forwards an extra period of rest to settle back in, if they play well.

He's been so poor this season (and a lot of the last) it's no suprise he's not going.
I'd love to say "hey it's great, he'll get a mid season rest" but he's also been so poor for us I can't see it making a distance.

Still hoping he'll turn things around but it's not looking good so far

That's a bit harsh. He has been fantastic for Arsenal this season.
Yes, only if you severely decrease the value of fantastic. He has been playing well for a side which has been the 2nd best side in the league.

Not a player to cry about that we missed out on.

2nd best? City have scraped results just as much as Arsenal. City without Haaland this season have looked beatable.
Martinelli has been a great player.

He seems to have the immune system of a toddler. He needs to start looking after himself better if he wants to make it to the top.
He does seem more prone to illness than others but its easy to say that but with no specifics on his illness it's a bit harsh to say that. For all we know, he had covid or has a problem with his tonsils.

If we knew he's always got a cold or funny stomach then maybe so.

It’s a shame really because he had a really good pre season and started the season of well. I think when he plays with rashford and martial he looks good and as a team we look better. I feel like every time Ronaldo plays all of the players just try and get it to him to prevent him from sulking.

I hate how many Arsenal fans are posting on here these days. There's one of them on every single thread, including United's player performance ones.

To the current discussion, I'm not one of Sancho's big fans around here but to say Martinelli is better or has a higher ceiling than him is pretty stupid. Don't even think you could say that for Saka, and he is definitely better than Martinelli.
Because Arsenal and United have an intense online rivalry. From primary school to adulthood, if there are two players of a similar age and position, Arsenal and United fans will find a way to argue about them.

Vieira vs Keane
Reyes vs Ronaldo
Cesc vs Anderson
Szcenzy vs De Gea
Wilshere vs Cleverly
Gnabry vs Januzaj
Iwobi vs Rashford
Saka vs Sancho.

There’s been a heap more comparisons that I can’t be bothered to name but you get the jist.

What an unacceptable tweet. There's no way Sancho would ever choose to fly Ryanair.

Hopefully missing out will be the kickstart he needs to start playing like we know he can, again.

Now there is motivation for him to win back his place and go to the Euros in 2024 and he can only do that with great club performances.

He should be motivated watching garnacho.

The Sancho/Garnacho problem reminds me a bit like Pepe/Saka. It might be best for United to move on from Sancho and give Garnacho the keys.

I think he’s going to have to transition infield to make it here.

Learn from Bernardo Silva

Bernardo was fantastic on the wing before playing in field as well.

I keep seeing calls for Sancho to play at 10. I really don’t understand the obsession with shoe horning players into positions they’ve shown absolutely zero evidence that they would be any good at it.

If we played players in positions the redcafe gurus have suggested we would have Martinez and Lindelof playing as CDMs, AWB as a centre back, Sancho as a number 10, Fred as a left back and Ronaldo on left wing!

When a player is playing shite in their best position, they aren’t suddenly going to become the best option in another position they have no proven track record of.

Not buying there's an injury or illness, I think we're doing some serious behind the scenes work with him

I think you are reaching a bit with these comparisons. I been lurking on this forum for over 10 years and never did I see a thread comparing any of the above.

I’m actually surprised it’s even a surprise that he’s not going to the World Cup. His place in the team was not that strong before Euro and he spent most of that tournament on the bench, and that was after a couple of good seasons at Dortmund. He was never going to make the team after awful season and a half at United.

Can happen with some players. Joelinton, for example.

Like what?

If that's not the case it doesn't bode well for him.
I hope we loan him out in January if we can get a new winger (Gakpo?) in, or even if we get a forward and shift Rashford to the wing. A few months in France, Germany or Spain might help him.

Hopefully, altho when was the last time when one of those loans helped us in the end.

As of now he isn't good enormous but may he'll turn that around, let's see.

Hopefully he grows stronger after this poor spell with us and not making it to the WC. Needs to get put in extra effort to get tougher for this league. I'd still give him some more time as I think he's super talented.

How do we move him on with the gargantuan wages he is on? Would he be willing to take a paycut? Eitherway, should really look to sell in the summer while his stock is still high and bring in someone like trossard or martinelli.

He has to learn how to assert himself better and expand his abilities towards the right side of the attack. Physically, he can get much stronger and put on size without compromising his agility, balance, or technical ability. He also has a couple more years to physically mature into his body.

But if he can't push for time on the left side with Rashford and Garnacho seemingly keeping him out, fine. The right side aside from Antony is poor. Bruno may have had a nice match today on the right side, but he needs to play centrally. DVB is not showing much even under EtH, so the right side and possibly in the hole is something Sancho could at least compete for if he wants to be part of the squad.

The intensity and physicality is not his forte right now and that is something EtH does value in his squads, which do make a difference.

See I don't have any issue with Sancho having a poor performance every now and then. He's still young after all.

The thing is I'd never expect him to have a very good performance - at level what Garnacho presented yesterday. Fantastic energetic cameo, running at defenders, but also great cross for McTaaland goal. It's just Sancho does not play football that way.

I think he should be given more chances on the right now. We have too many LWs now and Jadon might soon be 3rd choice there. If he isn't already.

Think he shoud rather move than play on the right.

But the WC is gone so he's not in a hurry now. Has to wait for his chance now, take a step back and focus on finding his form. If he does, I think the question will be who plays besides him, not the other way round. If not.. well, better close the chapter and move on.

You truly have a weird obsession about not playing him on the right. But I agree on the rest - he has to take the chance of the long break to get fit and become a first choice while everyone else suffers from WC fatigue, or if that also falls everyone should realize that this is likely not going to be a happy long term relationship and end it in the summer. I assume Dortmund would love to have him back as they totally messed up their squad planning and still haven't replaced him properly.

Yeah, I think it is incredibly stupid to play him there for multiple reasons. First, he never even played the position to begin with and second his skillset is a terrible fit to play on the right. You need to be physically strong and fast to play on the side of your strong foot and Sancho isn't. On the other hand, it severely limits his one great strength which is his playmaking capacity. Sure, he can do a job there, but we won't see the best on him being stuck to the right byline. Playing him on the right would most likely have to involve a change of formation and the signing of a true wing back that can provide width and overlapping runs - and even that wouldn't be optimal.

If it doesn't click under Ten Hag for whatever reason, he should look for a fresh start. And yes, Dortmund should be all over him if there was a chance of him coming back. But generally, I'd say that Ten Hag is an excellent coach for him so Inhole he can sort out whatever it is that leads to his underwhelming performances.

Same. He's reputation clouds peoples objective view of his current performances

He does

I think this is slightly kind to Sancho. He has had plenty of underlapping runs to use since Ten Hag became our coach. The fullbacks only invert in certain phases of play. They very much do get forward. Malacia played the kind of cutback pass discussed in the video to create United's first real chance last night. Its not the case that when Sancho gets the ball out wide he never has an option outside or inside him.

Sancho simply isn't doing enough. For someone with his talent it should not be that big of a deal to go past a man. Its true that Sancho isn't Kanchelskis quick but he is not Maguire slow either. He can beat players. Tifo depicts him as a good transitional dribbler who can carry the ball from deep, which is something we've rarely seen from him in a red shirt.

At the moment he's being shown up for bravery by Garnacho. That's something he will have to address if he wants to revive his United career. Otherwise he'll just go the way of Kagawa and Mhkitarayan, as a Dortmund star who didn't do it for us.
