Has he EVER put in a performance for us? Dortmund took us to the cleaners on the transfer - and his agent on wages we've offered him.

Watching him might enjoyable for fans that appreciate slight technical ability but he is a nightmare for teammates, especially the cms.
That being said, am not a fan of his type. Something about him just doesnt warm me up.I don’t question signing but his was an unnecessary and a bad one. I care less for the fees, just never thought him good enough.

He hasn't been anywhere near good enough. I hope he improves but in the back of my mind I feel we should've bought someone like Kamaldeen Sulemana who's a young explosive winger that is comfortable on either foot and would've cost us a very reasonable price. And funnily enough, our lead scout in Scandanavia (Tommy Møller Nielsen) recommended young Sulemana and went on to say he was the biggest talent playing in Scandanavia at the time.

I do hope Sancho comes good but I do feel we should try signing Antony from Ajax next summer. Antony is quick and the biggest difference between Sancho and Antony is that Antony plays with a high intensity both with and without the ball and is a dynamic player with quick lateral movement with the ball.

Federico Chiesa was another player that was discussed on the forum when he was at Fiorentina, and imo at the time, I felt he could go on to have a better career than Sancho due to his warrior like mentality and his general intensity on the pitch. I feel we get too hung up on goals and assists and have a blind spot towards build up play and transitions and the total composition of what makes the collective tick.

Can you guys have imagined the state of this place if we hadn't signed him last summer? I reckon someone would've burned down Woodward's house. Not signing him would've been the primary reason for Ole getting sacked.

We know Sancho can function successfully as a system player. I ll give him one more year at least.

I see a lot of criticism about his speed not being up to par with the PL's standards but pace isn't the all end to be a good winger, take Mahrez for example he's not particularly fast either yet he makes it work in the Prem

There was posts on here (circa 2019/2020) where people were saying we should've spent the reported €120m to sign him and that would've got us CL football.

I still hope he comes good for us but it reinforces the point I've made in other threads about the issues not being that we don't spend or buy players, but rather we do spend and buy players for huge money that haven't been good enough. I think if the club adopted a strategy where we approached the transfer window with a mindset that we won't spend more than 40m on any one signing, I think the rebuild would be a lot quicker. But I'm not sure the fan base would be happy with that approach, or maybe they'd be more receptive to such a approach now.

Our two biggest signings have been Paul Pogba and Harry Maguire. And if you compare it to the business our rivals have done in comparison it paints a very bleak picture. Nobody would've said Wijnaldum would turn out to be a better player for Liverpool than Pogba for United in 2016. And the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal wouldn't swap Konate and Saliba for Maguire. And these players were bought for reasonable prices by the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

Arsenal are a club who only two years ago were described by Sven Mislintat (former head of recruitment) as being a complete mess behind the scenes. And they fired a number of scouts and paid out a number of players to leave the club. And in the subsequent 3 years since being made DoF, it does seem like Edu has got a system going where they've improved the team and are signing the correct profile of player via a scouting network that was restructured a few years ago. And from the two games they've played, it does seem like they've developed a identity/style of play. But the likes of Edu took a lot of flak from the fans in the preceding years.

I want it to happen for Jadon. I really do. However, this looks like it's going the way of Kagawa and Mhkitarayan.

Mikhitaryan was a flop but he was still leagues above the sancho we've seen so far. Just shows how far our standards have fallen.

Agree with everything. To me, you should only be signing players in that 50m+ category rarely AND if you're actually trying to win the CL or the league in the immediate season. You're targeting the wrong football if not. It's why the obsession with FDJ is strange because he's not the right player for our immediate goals - and neither does he believe he is.

We could sign 3 players for that budget, 2 of them might not be good enough for our long term ambitions. However if we sign them for reasonable prices and salaries, when we do outgrow them we should be able to move them on.

Spending nearly £60 million on a small CB to play in the Premier League is hardly the work of a genius and it will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Beginning to think he's a flop. I think he's the new Pogba - people on here will keep defending him and blame the team around him and not him.

Looks like we got fooled by English media and fans praising a player to the skies............ yet again

Agreed.

Spending £45m plus £8 million in add ons might be a little high but at least let the player settle into new surroundings before passing judgment. Many had written Vidic and Evra off in their first half season at the club.

I didn’t....I knew instantly that Evra was a much better fit than Heinze and Vidic was a specimen!
Seeing Martinez standing on the goal line he would struggle leaping and touching the underside of the bar with his fingertips and that is going to fill me with dread when it comes to set pieces.

I said before we signed him, there's no way he's a better player than Rashford(Rashford from 19-20).

He's not better than Martial from 19-20 nor the other player I won't name. He wouldn't get in that front 3 from 19-20 that was in great form post-restart.

In reality, he has a lot of flaws that the Premier League expose entirely.

He's not blistering quick. He's fairly weak on the ball. He doesn't really bust much of a gut off the ball. His dribbling is more far evasive than penetrative. He can't get by players consistently, because he lacks strength, pace and just doesn't possess insane innate dribbling to make up for those 2 traits lacking and he seems to lack fight/toughness.

He gets plenty of isolated scenarios vs a full-back and they just almost always shut him down. Even when Dalot offers an overlap, not much really happens. His passing is fairly erratic at times too(probably the most disappointing part about him) and he doesn't really possess a thunderbolt of a shot.

He just offers nothing at the moment.

He was awful. The game might have been different if we actually had wingers who could beat their man when isolated in a 1 v 1 situation. We managed to get the ball to him in those situations quite regularly, but he'd just slow it down, pass it back to Dalot / Eriksen and never put in a cross or try to get beyond his man. Right now, he's not fit to lace Valencia/Nani's boots.

Should never spend big money on Bundesliga or Eredvisie players. Take a few cheap punts like Malacia, but big money signings should be reserved to PL or La Liga proven players. The Bundesliga can just not be trusted to provide PL quality.

He was utter shite and has been for the majority of his time here.

Maybe it is a negative thing that he is now together with his England mates whereas in Germany he might have been more concentrated on his game and had to constantly prove himself.
Overall pretty underwhelming so far.

People tend to get defensive when you criticise Sancho because he is one of our newest shiny toys but apart from a few flashes that you could count on a single hand, he never impresses and is mostly below average really. £73m is a daylight robbery.

The Bundesliga must be truly terrible. Maybe we should move the club to Germany.

Can look good, can also look like a little boy playing against big men.

You can’t. United isn't a club, it's a company and therefore wouldn't be allowed in the Bundesliga. If you get rid of the Glazers however and do it the right way... :smirk:

I keep saying this over and over. He’s a left winger. He’s so uncomfortable on the right. Rashfords so shit we may as well move him to the right because he’s doing nothing in his favoured position.

Pre-season Eden Hazard :wenger:

On serious note, What's wrong with him? He had a great patch of form under RR too, then disappeared after international break. Now with the illness break.

Mr anonymous on the right. Same with England (23 appearances) yet people were up in arms at Southgate by not starting him with Grealish.

I agree completely. His lack of pace is far less exposed when cutting in on the left. And it increases his possibilities in terms of coming inside and linking with other attackers which is what he excels at. He's far more creative than Rashford too, so it makes sense he can come inside and see more of the pitch. His best games for us, as fleeting as they have been, have all come from the left.

Another massive flop.

Been mediocre at best since joining.

I like him but I’d rather have pace on the wings, Diaz at liverpool type.. fast and direct.

ralf actually put his name forward and the club said no. I mean… why not?

I'm struggling to see what he can do. I've watched great compilations of him at Dortmund, but at United I couldn't really tell you what his strengths are. Just seems a fairly slow, creative winger but hasn't demonstrated much in terms of passing, aggression, strength, pace or skill. It's disappointing.

I still don't see what all the fuss was about with this lad. I have watched him multiple times now for England and Utd and he has pretty much been anonymous every time. I just don't get it.

Yeah, it must be down to the league and club he came from. Can’t be that it’s all due to your club being a toxic cesspool that destroys basically every single player that comes into contact with it. No, that wouldn’t make sense. It just has to be Dortmund‘s fault or the Bundesliga‘s.
After all, all the players you bought from the prem are huge successes. Like Shaw. Or Wan Bissaka. Or Schneiderlein. Or Fellaini. Or Maguire. They all worked out great for you guys.

Don't worry the Dutch league players tend to do even worse.

Lewa would be useless in this team. At this point, I'm not even sure what will work. Every player is garbage.

Sancho is a good player and we were seeing glimpses in pre season, not when the whole team is trash, not even sure which player to start with

You should only buy from the Danish and Malaysian leagues. Don’t think you have ever had bad experiences with those.

I think one of the biggest problems with Sancho as a 70 million player is that he doesn't really have the drive and personality to make an impact under any kind of adversity. I think you're hoping for a difference maker at that sort of outlay, regardless of whether we're crap. He's just not that type.

In this side he just looks bereft of confidence, he's not finding the ball often, looks isolated and removed from the team (and has done since he joined) and looks unwilling to take people on or really try something. He's just kind of there.

I don't think he's going to contribute much except the odd flash until we start playing much better. The problem is, we kind of need people willing to take on responsibility and show backbone.

Is he good enough for where we want to be as in challenging for trophies? In my opinion, No. Is he good enough for our current situation? I Think so, that is if ETH can get our attacking players to play anything like an actual functional unit.

It seems to be another case of people relying on stats rather than watching someone play football. I watched quite a few Dortmund games while he was there and while his final ball is very good, his all round game was always severely lacking in my opinion. Out of the twenty plus games or so I watched for them, I never really got that feeling of him being anything special.

Final balls are a lot more important when the team is playing good football so I think he could be good for us in the right system. For all our defensive problems, the most disappointing thing for me is how utterly toothless our attack seems yet again. There wasn't a single time after going one goal down that I thought we looked remotely dangerous.

I wonder why we haven't tried him as the most forward midfielder instead of fernandes as things stand. At least he wont sky the ball 50 metres above the goal every time he gets possession.

He’s kinda like Hazard without the athleticism
