This will be a nice little icing on the cake. A loan with an obligation to buy for Toney for £40m-£45m and we send Sancho to Juve on a similar loan with an obligation for 30m-35m. Wouldn't be too much of a burden on next season's PSR/FFP calculations either.

feck me

I bet they flog him on deadline day for 25-30, he’s not in their plans so doubt they’ll let him move for free next Summer.

The solution when you can’t score goals is to work on how your team is playing on the ball to create the chances, you don’t just stockpile strikers in the hopes they’ll start scoring more. This won’t happen - or at least shouldn’t — in two months time when Hojlund returns to full fitness we would have three strikers playing in a one striker formation.

If we’re signing an additional player after Ugarte it should be another no.8 who can actually play with the football. Or potentially a winger if Sancho also leaves.

Rabiot or don't consider him an 8 who can play?

They either take that, or in 2 days they’ll be well aware he’s going for £0 in 10 months.

He’s not even in their plans, why on Earth will they turn down 30mil?
Because we are not only one club vying for his signature. There supposedly is an offer from a Saudi club, Chelsea and now reports are mentioning us. Also, there will be a few teams ready to pick him up in January for £20m. Heck we got desperate and paid with Mkhitaryan for Sanchez with only 6 months left on his contract.

With one year left it shouldn't be more than £30m-£35m; however, I can it see it going up to £40m-£45m given the competition for his signature.

I’d love Toney here but If we’re selling Sancho to Chelsea I can see us getting Sterling/Toney

We had the money even without selling McT it was a squad numbers issue which is why we were waiting for McT to go

There is money there especially since we sold Hannibal & Lindelof may be going too
Lindelof is going nowhere . Lazio signed a centre half yesterday

That's not true. We could theoretically spend another 50-75 Million with the savings we've made/generated this summer but would impact us next year with the PSR.
As a business it would be very short sighted which is why I think after Ugarte we are done .

Let’s just think about that for a second. He will then be 29. The INEOS team are not gonna splurge 40-45m on a player that age

It may happen in one of your dreams but that’s about it .

Will most likely join Chelsea when they find Osimhen deal is too complicated to sort this late

Or flog him to Saudi when the our window closes and no body in the PL has coughed up...
That’s assuming he accepts their offer. If he has aspiration still to play at this level then he can just run down his contract.

Don’t want him though, your lot can have him, or whoever forks out the money. We don’t win enough penalties to make him productive.

We aren’t “vying for his signature”, so far not a single decent source has claimed we are.

Chelsea appear interested but only as a second choice. The Saudi offer requires Toney saying goodbye to his career so I imagine that’s a none starter. There appears no real “competition for his signature”, if Chelsea show serious interest Toney will inform Brentford it’s all he’s interested in and they’ll do a deal at nothing like 40-45m.

He can just say no, and get himself a lovely free transfer deal in the PL.

Weird risk for Brentford to take gambling that:

A) a Saudi club would want to pay 40m for a guy who they can sign for free in 4.5 months

B) Toney will accept the deal
A) They can't sign him for free in 4.5 months

B) Toney has 1 big contract left in his careeer, this one, he's never earned big money by top level standards, Saudi will pay him more than any PL club can or will

I think this late into the window I’d take him. Far from my first choice, but he’s at an okay age, good experience at top level, and replaces a lot of the weaknesses we lose with McTominay gone.

They absolutely can, on 1st Jan they can sign him for next season, for free.

Your second point is pure speculation on what drives the player and would require some absolutely insane risk taking from Brentford that Toney would take it when he’d be in a great position to sign for free for a Premier League club next term.

I’m imagining that board meeting…

“Chelsea have bid 30m, he’s not in our plans and he can sign for a new overseas club for free in Jan, should we take it”

“No, because a Saudi club are currently bidding 40m and let’s gamble that after deadline day Toney agrees and that the Saudi club don’t lower their offer as the window for all other teams is shut and they now have zero competition for his signature”.

Come on man, think.

If we do have some money to spend, I'd much rather us go for Toney than Sterling.

A potential season with just Zirkzee and Hojlund up top doesn't fill me with confidence .

I mean we don't know that do we? This is their first window, how do we know what their actual operating policy is? We'll only see a pattern emerge after a few windows at least.

I think Sur Jim said it himself early on in one of his interviews. Look at the ages of signings so far

So it appears he scored 4 in 17 last season in the PL.
His record is not that of a top striker. Hope we don't waste big money on him.

If he joined I'd give it a month before he says something in an interview/on social media that leads to everyone wanting him sold again.

I see.

It depends on Toney really, if we come in with similar offer, he may push for it and say either he signs for us leaves on a free next season, might force their hands.

Just speculation from my end though.

We haven't got that kind of money left

A loan with an obligation to buy basically is a trick to defer the payment by a season when in fact for all practical purposes we are buying the player now only, when he is 28.

However, I am sure you weren't being pedantic with 28/29 and meant that INEOS won't spend on player at that age. I don't think that's a set rule. If an opportunity arises then they can and will make an exception. Fergie liked to buy young players with top potential but made exceptions from time to time.

With Toney, I see it as an opportunity given the dearth of really top quality strikers in the market. Toney for me is a lesser talented Kane, but he is still better than anything else available in the market at a decent price point. Getting him, imo, will give Rasmus time to develop without the pressure of having to lead the line and delivering at a club with huge expectations. He'd be a really good stop gap option for the 2-3 seasons.

It most likely won't happen when Chelsea or the Saudi's are interested, but one can hope.

Brentford rejected a 35m offer from Saudi just last week. You don't know what you are talking about.

Toney doesn’t really fit in with our squad. If we wanted him we wouldn’t have signed Zirkzee.

Feel like Zirkzee was more of an opportunity signing, maybe Utd didn't think Brentford would drop price to something they felt was fair. The trouble is we haven't got a spare £40m left
