Ivan Perisic

You can't expect much entusiasm when we are buying a player who has been around for years as a nothing journeyman, there are several much better wingers out there.

Oh, I'm certainly not arguing with the lack of enthusiasm, just trying to think of another signing to compare the reaction to. Even Fellaini had his ardent admires and was arriving into a famine of options in midfield....

1. It's not £55 million
2. Perisic is much better than Martial on the left
3. Mourinho obviously feels Perisic is the player we need to offer better balance

Since when is he better? Martial had a bad season in and out of the squad no doubt but this time 12 months ago he was being touted as one of the best young left wingers in Europe.

Perisic is almost 29, he's had 10-11 seasons at the top level and really hasn't shone until lately Dortmund sold him for 5.5 just a few years ago they didn't think he was good enough.

Not sure how we're expected to compete for a title if he's one of our attacking options.

We'll be lucky if Perisic/Mkhitaryan hit double figures in the league. Mkhi has only done it once in the Bundesliga. Once more, huge burden on whoever the striker is that we sign.

Mentioned this is another thread, but our best hope next season might be internal improvement. So hopefully Martial/Rashford/Mkhi improve from last season.

Would be a gamble, but I don't think we're going to sign any "superstars" in attack from how it looks right now. Of course, things could change. Still very early.

We may as well lay a six foot long dog turd along our left flank. Sweet fecking Jesus.

 That cheered me up!

Fellaini always has had those kinky folks that like that kinda thing!, but yeah, I can't think of one either but well warranted IMO, he's so ordinary it's frigthening to think we are expecting to compete with him as one of our main players.

Perisic is not better than Martial, Mourinho just can't get the best out of Martial. Like he can't get the best out of any attacking player that rely's on technique rather than brute force.

I've noticed on YouTube highlights (I know) that he is at his most dangerous when receiving the ball high and wide on the pitch, isolating the fullback. Exactly where Martial thrives but we haven't played him like that all season. Which begs the question, how will Perisic fare receiving it in his own half with his back to goal like Marial?

Yeah but some caf experts think he's shite.

Conte and Jose have never made a bad observation of a player either, they've been right every single time, at least with Conte he'd be buying him to play as a wingback which means he'd still have three quality attackers and wont be relying on him for anything more than keeping width.

Have no clue why the cafe has decided this guy is the worst footballer in the history of the universe.

My problem with this potential signing is dependant on how long Mourinho will be here. Looking at Perisic and people's descriptions of him - my worry is that we could end up with a very work-man like, fast depreciating, expensive XI. While Bailly and Pogba have alleviated those fears a bit, Shaw and Martial's positions have strengthened them.

Fabinho is really becoming more and more important.

No, he's not much better than Martial, he's only more experienced as any 29 year old should be over any 21 year old footballer.

I haven't seen as much of Perisic as I have of Martial.. but from what I have seen coupled with how shit Martial was last season, I can believe him to be much better.

I didn't originally see Perisic as the signing for our LW either. But lets see how he does. Knowledgeable sources have rated him and he's wanted by 2 quality managers.

a) relatively unheard of
b) old
c) massively overpriced
d) crap highlights videos
e) plays in a shit league

Quality depth signing and if he beats out Martial or Mkhitaryan for a wide berth, then so be it.

I could give two shits about his perceived talent compared to Martial, Lingard, Mata, etc. If he helps United win and helps Mourinho achieve his vision at United so be it.

Too many people are quick to judge players based off of YouTube or how much they rate a current United player (i.e. Martial). Those same people were wrong about Smalling's potential negative impact during the Cup Final against Ajax.

If he's officially a United player, he'll be given his chance eventually to make an impact throughout the season.

I can't believe that fee. The Italian press are lying.
Yep, time for people to relax, we're not buying a 28 y/o journeyman for 52m. I still don't think we're buying him at all, but if we are, it's not going to be for 52m. Even we aren't that stupid.

Exactly, we could buy Messi and it wouldn't fix our broken defensive system.

Do you really believe this considering your username?

He will probably be pretty good IMO. Overpriced, which shouldn't be understated because when we overpay it tells other clubs we're willing to overpay for their players too, but I can see why Mourinho wants him so bad if it's all true.
