So it's Griezmann or bust?

I don't think the Perisic interest has anything to do with Griezmann, two very different roles in the team, but I will say that after the Griezmann news and the terrifying spectre of Lukaku this thread reminds me of the Bob Dylan lyric "When you think that you've lost everything. You find out you can always lose a little more" I thought this thread would be the lowest point of the window, now it seems positively hopeful in compasrison.

It's not that bad. :)
Obviously Perišić together with Griezmann would be great but I don't expect this window to be a bad one despite the fact people are panicking like mad men.

At this point I'm fearing the worst and hoping for the best, the options are just so sparse and I don't want to see us buying average players just to say we have bought someone.

Perisic, Lukaku, Dier and Keane would be great signings for this side

Imagine signing this lad and letting martial go. Jeez this window is not looking good....

Haha. No but seriously I think the Griezmann news today is actually a major set-back for us and one which will now make this transfer window way tougher than some maybe realise. One thing I believe is for certain is that signing Perisic will make not up for it. Regardless he isn't a player I'd favour anyway as I just don't see him providing the kind of significant improvement that we quite desperately need.

Add to that Fellaini as a nr. 10, amIrite?

I think we'll be using Martial and Rashford as SS. If that fails, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Pogba and Fellaini might take over as a more traditional no 10. What's so absurd with that?

It might be Fellaini all over again.

Oh, you were actually serious. Sorry.

Look I don't like it either. However, its undeniable that Mou likes the guy. Also note he's the 5th option mentioned

Well, ok, but even the rest of what you said in your last two posts is troubling. Firstly I'm not sure what your expectations are but as I've said previously if we signed those players you mentioned I'd be happy if we even ended up in fourth.

Secondly you talk about those players potentially in the striker and number 10s roles but I seriously don't see how it amounts to anything better than last season. It's nigh-on the same and you know as well as me the kind of utter dross that amounted to most of the time.

Mate, I can't believe you're this negative on the 1st June!

I don't see it as negative personally, just realisitc given the market, buying the likes or Perisic and Lukaku aren't going to make us any better than we were, it's just more of the same, in fact a lesser striker in comparison to the 35 year old we used last season.

I can't believe people are still postive, not after seeing what City is doing and how we got totally fecked over with Griezmann.

Any improvements we can make are marginal. We will simply lack the offensive quality to compete with City and Chelsea who will be so far ahead of us next season it will just physically hurt.

Nobody in the market can improve us at this point. We are just going to have marginal improvements, papering over the cracks. It is a sad day for United that is for sure.

Why don't you give the club some more time?

Its all assumption at the moment though. If we are interested in Perisic that's not to say we aren't interested in other bigger name targets. Pogba kind of came from nowhere last summer.

Right now it's the pessimists vs the optimists and I don't think I've seen it so prominent in the caf before

Perisic, Lacazette, Dier and Lindeloff. Cl is ours.

Sorry to say I missed out on replying to your thoughts on Griezmann before the thread was locked. Funny as it may be I don't believe for one second that you believe either that or the above.

This is the worry, there is just so few options of the required quality in attack on the market.

I said I'd fear the worst and hope for the best mate, and I haven't said anything negative about the club, I just don't think the options are there, I am sure if Barca hit Woody on the horn and said they'd do business for Neymar, we'd do it, I just think the market is bare in attack, I do think our defense and midifeld will be even stronger after this window though.

I don't think it's assumption when I say the market is threadbare for the level of attacking talent we need, it's nobodies fault, it's just the nature of the market and the fact the best options are stockpiled at clubs that can't be simply beaten into submission with money.

I don't think it's negativity. It is just lack of hope and frustration really. It was a similar feeling before we ended up with Fellaini. It is not impossible to turn things around but we have to be realistic and realise that we no longer monopolize the transfer window like we used to. The fact we could end up with lesser player than we hoped for at the end of the season is a real possibility. The pool of players that can lift us out of 6th is skint, so it's about quick and effective action. We need the best players available.

He's looking for reaction.

We've never monopolised the transfer market. I can't even remember any time we competed with clubs for world class players. Possibly Ronaldinho? But we couldn't even land him. We got away with it because we had Ferguson and we kept winning trophies, so no one gave a shit about all this transfer point scoring nonsense. But things are different now, and we find ourselves without Ferguson and with a team that is quite mediocre compared with the biggest clubs in Europe. We need a serious injection of quality and without Griezmann I don't see where that is going to come from. I can understand the doom and gloom amongst United fans at the moment.

So it was Griezmann or dust for some folk and he was just bound to make it all happen at United because he's ... a world class player? You need to flush the water to get rid of that awful aura that you've created on your own.

Nope. You have zero, and I mean absolutely zero, excuse for interpreting any of that from what you've read here.

Yeah it's not like something of a wave of negativity is spreading across so many threads at the moment. No, absolutely nothing like it.

There is negativity. Admittedly quite a bit of it but still no excuse for you sounding like an inane pillock.

Can you imagine any of these players starting for Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern?

Because that is where we want to be. There is no point in signing mediocrity.

Lecture me more genius for merely pointing out it's not the end of the world after today's events.

By that standard there are plenty of mediocre players in, say, the Chelsea side that has won the league two out of the last three seasons. Personally I'd happily settle for multiple league titles over the next few years and let CL aspirations against the likes of Barca and Madrid fall where they may.

Except for Dier that is, who really is bleh.

One of the most reputable Journos in Italy is saying we have a €52m agreement with Inter for Perisic.
