I think the pursuit of him may indicate a move to a wing-back system. We don't have natural wingers, and there seems a shortage of quality ones on the market.

It's more likely to indicate a move to Mourinho's usual 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 system, which utilises a traditional winger and a wide forward.

Let's get back on topic (as in no more fake twitter account chat).
 This is how Nazi Germany started. You were talking about our next captain in the Fabinho transfer thread a few minutes ago.

Yeah its easy to get derailed once someone makes a daft comment, you're always incentivized to correct it.

Think we will sign him and Griezmann over the next week or so.

I reckon we will try to get all our business back before the team report back from summer holidays.

Ivan Perisic (LW, CAM, RW, ST). Personally I prefer to give Pereira and Martial more chances but I can see why Mourinho "may" want him.
  • Crosses. Left footed, good right foot too. More effective at the LW position. This season our attacks from the left is overall very.. bad. Martial is inconsistent and does show superb attacks there in few games - dribbling and cutting inside. However, one thing that is lacking is crosses from the left, barely any. Perisic would solve that theoretically. He's a good crosser especially from the left, and not that shabby either from the right. He can hold the ball better and use trickeries and tactical dribbling at the left to execute good crosses. Also, our right winger doesn't cross enough as well, Valencia does that often, so he is an option there too if Tony doesn't play. Mata is effective playing RW though in his own way. Simply, he would complete the team.
  • Competitions. Reality is, our attackers, all except Juan Mata are too inconsistent and doesn't score enough goals. Not sure about Perisic's consistency, but would add competitions to that position and hopefully would motivate the players (Lingard, Mkhi & Martial) to perform better.. or out. Time to step-up guys. Also, far better option than Lingard who can be frustrating at times.
  • Good prime age (28 years old). Considering our youthful squad, having many young players, his age means he won't block their gradual progress into the squad. I'm referring to players like Rashford, Martial, Andreas Pereira, Harlop, etc. Even more, they could even learn a lot from Ivan Perisic ~ his movements, skills and crossing technique. Bear in mind, we're chasing both EPL and Champions League next season, we need experienced player.
  • Winger qualities. He's fast, and skillful enough in beating defenders. Very tactical dribbler from what I can see (EPL defenders won't give him that much time and space though). Love to trick defenders and love to cross.. a lot. Can cut in well too, and is quite good positioning himself inside the box, to score. One thing which I like is he also have the eye for passes, which is good to have. Good strength too for a winger. Wow.
  • Scoring ability. He can score alright, although maybe not consistently, but still a good threat and better goal output than Lingard. Plus, one thing which he have our wingers doesn't is aerial threats, good header. In addition, he love to dribble-tricks defenders left and right with good composure before executing shots so that's another one which he have our attackers doesn't have. He's a good shooter and strong winger too which is another boon.
  • Cover. Covering other players, playing in rotations. Mainly playing as LW, he can cover the position of striker and other attacking positions (RW, & CAM). Also, considering his height, Jose may deploy him at CM in tactical or emergency situations like Mkhi few times, hopefully not. Just his sub role here.
Of course, admittedly all those evaluations comes from videos, statistics and articles. Haven't seen him playing in full matches, so can't judge well. I'll give both Mourinho and him benefit of a doubt here though. Potentially, Ivan Perisic can be a good addition to our player. Interesting prime player.

I don't see a lot in Perisic over Martial, Martial just needs a Jose hug !

Agree but I have faith in Martial to come good as a United player, my gut feeling is that we are going to play 433, therefore our front three would play a bit more narrow, Martial #9 Griezman
I have a totally different gut feeling, enforced 4-2-3-1 (or 4-4-2), specially if Griezmann comes. And Rashford is way ahead of Martial in this moment. Actually, in Mourinho's mind Martial might be the substitute for Rashford, as we seen in the end of the season, not so much of Perišić.

Rashford could be the #9

Surely we'll no longer be getting Perisic now. It seemed as if Jose wanted Perisic to fit our team with Griezmann in it.

Now that AG7 muppet dream has died, I'd expect us to go for a much better wide player than Perisic.

Like the striker situation, there's not enough players in the position to really get excited over.
