Ivan Perisic

Watched a Youtube video of him. He looks properly fast and certainly knows how to dribble, but in a three minute video he wasn' able to hit one good cross or score a single goal. We need consistency and numbers. He's 28, and if he is as reliant on pace as he looks and as inconsistent as he looks, I think we can do better.

He's not being bought for assists and goals IMO, he's primarily to lock down the left the same way Tony V locks down the right.

You need to type the right things in the search bar. Like 'best goals and assists...' And not things like ,'Perisic the 45 year old inconsistent workhorse..'

So as a left back?

No, a defensive winger ahead of Darmian who doesn't cross the halfway line so offers no width on that flank. If you look at Peresic's numbers he's not done any better than Mata, Rashford and Mkhi last season while playing in an inferior league, he's not some big attacking threat.

I just can't make any sense out of this signing (if we do end up signing him). We already have Martial and Rashford who are natural left sided attacking players. Even if Rashford plays as No.9 next season, Where will Martial play ?

Does that mean the end of his career at United ?
It makes sense because as we already witnessed, we had two different Martials (sort of). First season was an excellent debut season, second not so much due to his inconsistency.

Martial is still 21, still very young and developing as a player. Not yet a full fledged winger or striker. Perisic, is 29, would probably be stop gap player and less pressure for Martial to develop. Even if Perisic is very fit, I don't think he will play all games. As we already witnessed, again, we were unlucky with injuries towards the end of the season. Now with CL, there will be more high intensity games for United.

What I don't quite agree and understand, is the high fee.

It's fecking mental a player like Perisic would cost 55-60m euros. Inter bought him for 16m two years ago and on the back of one good season where they finished 7th now they want to sell him for 3/4 times that amount being also 28 years of age..:wenger:

Not that he sucks or anything, he's a good player, but 60m euros... Please.

Is that how Youtube works? Thanks mate - it will open up a whole new world for me. I could certainly need some new entertainment at work!

I swear yesterday he was complete garbage and worse than Lingard.
I wake up and see him wanted by Chelsea, now it's time to make him the next Messi and a great value buy.

Except no one is saying that :nono:

You left me totally unexcited, mate! Sounds like we'll be playing some great football next season!

The thing is, with Valencia the winger can concentrate on attacking as Valencia doesn't really need much help defensively. If we deploy a defensive winger on the left ahead of the super defensive fullback Darmian, then we could just as well put up a sign - we do not attack down the left.

I think the Caf just aren't really fond of the personal vibes they get from Ivan Perisic and that he's not the type of player Manchester United should sign. Both of these certainly ring true in my case. I really don't want him here.

A very good player, but seems to be a massive cnut. But hey, I don't know him, I'm just judging him, and I admit that I do. Honesty always works best in the long run. If he arrives though, he'll have my full support, 100%.

Pogba, Bailly, Mkhitaryan and Zlatan. Yeh, I'm happy to trust Jose here.
What? Are you telling me that a manager who got all 4 signings right last summer isn't wrong because the armchair managers have already determined he's not good enough? /s

I hope Chelsea flexes their financial muscle and beats us to his signature. C'mon Roman, get that cheque book out and sign the man for £50 million.

I'm sure he's a decent enough player, but nahh..

We need to all take a step back imo. It's okay not thinking the signing is great - neither do I, but assuming where and how he will play is silly. I wouldn't be surprised to see us go 3 at the back, using him as a wingback. It would get the best out of Griezmann and Pogba too.

The buzz term from Mourinho the other night was humble pragmatists, I don't think exciting football is on the cards, grafting and disciplined organization are more likely.

I think Mourinho and his army of scouts know better than redcafe. If we sign him, im sure it will be a decent move for us, if not, likewise.

A step back? Sounds too much like LVG for my liking.

Not sure I like the 3-5-2 formation either, but we'll see. He certainly looks pretty entertaining to watch, but I haven't watched him much. We need a litttle consistency though.

It's all part of the philosophy

No wonder I miss the Fergie days...

Football has become far too pragmatic, and I think the ridiculous amounts of money in the PL is the main cuplrit.

:D:D:D Seriously, where did you read we are going to pay €60m ? :D Some reports (again, REPORTS) say we offered €35m which is quite reasonable but Inter WANT €55-€60m so relax, no way we or any other team on the planet are going to pay this amount.

I agree, I mean never mind what we are doing I don't think any of the top PL teams are particularly good to watch in comparison to the best teams in Spain, Germany and France.

I was referring to Inter wanting that amount, which is either a hands off warning or think we're splashing cash. I agree that 35m is the reasonable amount we should spent on him.

Agree. Not only are the top teams in the PL not particularly good or impressive to watch compared to the leagues you meantion, but football in the PL has become boring as a result of pragmatism. The lesser teams park the bus, play a defensive counter attacking style, and the big teams are just not good enough to break them down. We were rubbish at that last season. 2-0 down, and those teams need to dare to attack.

I think I heard somewhere that La Liga doesn't use goal difference or something so the lesser teams don't really care if they lose 2-0 or 7-0.

Not for me, the EPL is far more exciting to watch than any other league.

The cup final yesterday for example was a great game and given the fight for top 4 up to the final day, it's much more exciting than the other 1 or 2 horse race leagues.

Not really based on anything other than my opinion of course.

Yeah, in Spain they work on the head to head system for titles and relegation which encourages the smaller teams to play football, on top of that getting relegated in Spain and Germany isn't the death threat it is in the PL due to the TV deals being different there.
