Who was that for out of curiosity?
When Fergie complained that the Italians team have essentially two teams and we cannot compete with them without buying players, Kenyon said that Fergie needs to sell if he wants to buy.

"It is fair to say that if Sir Alex wants to buy someone, he will have to sell someone else," Kenyon said. "You can only field 11 players at one time and we have 24 in our squad, which, when it is supplemented with some of our younger players, we feel is the right number to get through 70-plus games a year."

Cheers, still a head shaking moment when you see some of the stuff Fergie wasn't allowed do and how we could have done much better in Europe if some of these things paid off.
Yep. We were absolutely shit in Europe back then though, and we continued being so until Rooney and Ronaldo clicked.

If he wants to stay at Inter its likely he has gotten word or vibes we are after someone else

Any of the reliable sources I follow, have said we moved on a long time ago, once it was clear Inter wanted more than our valuation of the player. Looks to me like he's going to sign a new contract.

So, in the meantime, we sacrifice the title race, just to give youngsters a chance?
And regarding the Atletico raid: that didn't work out too well this Summer did it?

Who says we give up on the title race? Our squad as it stands is plenty strong and we are among the favorites to win this season.

It didn't "work out too well" because of Atleti's transfer ban & not for a lack of trying. We're still interested in Griezmann and he is in joining us next window.

United are monitoring Carrasco as well as other teams (Bayern, Chelsea) but he'd be interested with the prospect of joining his former teammate and his fellow international at OT.

I like the idea of Perisic offering us extra tactical options. But, to be honest, our squad is already too big and I'd prefer to see us try to get the best out of Rashford and Martial instead. The gamble is bigger, but so is the pay-off. We've got two potential superstars on our hands, and Manchester United are all about making superstars out of young players. I miss that romance. The five wingers we have are good enough.

Wouldn't mind either if this goes through or not. If it does, we have one more player in the squad. If it doesn't, Martial can play more games, even Pereira can play reliably there as a backup i reckon

I didn't see the game personally but wasn't he rather impressive against Chelsea a few weeks ago?

Rashford and Martial were both a joy to watch running at Zabaleta down our left yesterday, they both caused West Ham all sorts of problems. If we had that down our right flank as well, we'd be golden. I'd rather have Mata competing for the #10 spot with Mkhitaryan and only being used as cover for the right wing. I'd even give Lingard a try out on the right and ask him to run at the opposition full-back in the same way that Rashford and Martial had done.

That said, the point I was getting to is that Perisic is very much that "run at the full-back" type of player, and has good pace to boot. With him on the right cutting in, and Rashford/Martial on the left vutting in, we'd have a pacy and direct front three there. Opposition full-backs would be getting turned inside out with the direct running and jinking inside, the centre-backs would be trying to contend with Lukauku's power and pace and threat in behind, Mkhitaryan can lurk and provide through balls, and Pogba can make runs in from deep. Sounds good to me. Not necessarily and advocation of Perisic being the signing we make, but certainly someone with similar attributes would be nice.

That, or just start Martial down the left and Rashford down the right.

Agree with this..

He would make Manchester United even more dangerous and unpredictable. He can play either flank comfortably.

You don't play around with Italian teams and their management - we should have paid the cash and got him before.

We didn't sign him cause we're gonna sign someone better. I have a feeling there's a big transfer coming up.

Maybe we just weren't as interested in meeting Inter's valuation by paying a 29 y.o. winger whose primary skill is heavily dependent on speed? At least with Matic you can make the case his skillset doesn't depend on pace alone.

I really want this player, reckon he would be awesome with feeding Lukaku!

I think if we don't make another effort to sign Perisic then we aren't buying anyone else instead, barring some totally unforeseen happenings (like moving for Rooney a year early for example). And it doesn't seem that we do that anymore which is probably a good thing.

Our business is done for me, this summer. Was 50/50 over Perisic, so I'm not too fussed as long as Martial and Rashford step up and put a shift in. Signs look good there after Sun.

He's still a good player and would have helped us lots on the wing.

Ed overplayed his hand.

Right wing, right wing, right wing. Still a problem.

Must say i agree, i would be ok with Martial and Rashford as our options in the left. But we need better options on the right, Mkhy is better centrally, Mata ditto and he just isn't a winger.

Good player, sure. Don't think Ed overplayed his hand though; tells other sellers United will pay only if the fee is deemed reasonable to the board. Mourinho is satisfied with this window regardless. If we do strengthen on the wing(s) it won't be Perisic. Moving on is the right call.

Like we sacrificed 2005-2006 to let Ronaldo and Rooney grow? I would take sacrificing a year to make Lukaku, Martial, Rashford and Pogba click together. Because if they click, they will be an unstoppable force for many years to come.

It's been 4 years of no titles.
You want to sacrifice this season....that'll make it 5 seasons.
With Martial/Rash still very young, they won't be reliable for another 2-3 seasons.
So you want us to sacrifice the title race for around 7 years?

I do realise that some of you love Martial or any other youth player, but I am a MUFC fan. I have no loyalty to any particular player...only to the club.
I want to see MUFC win. Plain and simple. We are not Southampton, where we need to develop youth, to sell to the big clubs. We are the big club and we should be aiming to win the title every season...not in 2-3 years time.

Agree with this

City have emerged since 2005 and the league is more competitive now than it's ever been. We need to get that 4th player Mourinho wants. I'd like to see us sign Perisic, but if not, then get someone else. Let's give ourselves the best possible chance to fight on all fronts and let the manager decide on how many minutes certain player's deserve.

If we are not getting Perisic, we might as well consider Draxler and Lucas Moura.... It's a world cup year and I'm sure both of them would like to make the first 11 for their respective national teams.

Think Jose was after a natural left footed crosser though, as we haven't got one. Draxler and Lucas are good players, but both are right footed and wouldn't fill that requirement. We already have Martial, Rashford and Mki as right footed options for LW. There doesn't seem to be many left footed options available really, but i just can't see us signing another right footed wide man personally. Either would give us more options, but not really the option we appear to be looking for.

We don't have a right wing problem. Valencia gives us width there and Mata's runs off the right are excellent

I agree, and at least we have natural right footers for that side. Left wing is a different matter. We have spent so much time pursuing Perisic because he offers something we currently don't have. i don't think it's absolutely vital we get a left footer, but it would certainly be a big plus to add a different balance and dimension to an already strong squad.

He didnt push for a move, and with an improved contract and us not wanting to pay ridiculous money, he can stay for all i care

If Shaw or Mitchell come in any way good this season then I think we will be ok. I want us to sign Perisic because I genuinely think he would end up playing left back a lot of the time and would give us serious options on that side again.
