Just an update since this thread has reached 229 pages

According to Di Marzio, United made a initial offer to inter in June(€30M), which was turned down. And that's it. No more offers. United are interested and the player is interested in united, but there's been absolutely nothing going on since June

If that is true, then it means we are working on another transfer.

Inter are signing Emre Mor, I think once that goes through they'll budge.

Wish someone told us that before

Ok thanks mystic meg, any other premonitions you've got while you're there?
Look, Mor has nothing to do with perisic. He's a gamble, not a replacement. If they signed Di Maria, then maybe their position on perisic might change

Jose said at the start of the window that he gave Woodward a list of 3/4 players for each position he wanted a player for.

Who were the other 2/3 players you think he listed for left wing?

Can close the book on this one I reckon. I just hope we have someone else in mind more gettable. Im not even sure gettable is a real word.

Tbh if we could have got a good deal for Perisic then I think it would have been a good move but at the same time, its not massive deal that we haven't signed him. Hopefully it means the talk of Martial going is going to cease now. I still think he could cement a place in this team yet but he's going to have to do it soon.

Yep, would be awful to sign a player that would improve us who Jose clearly thought could make a big difference for us.

Jose isn't always right he's capable of being wrong. A solid player but not someone I want us to sign, just an opinion.

Is it possible that we have switched strategy looking at Inter's stance, and now are looking to buy a RB instead and occasionally play Valencia at wings to give Mourinho the width option that we require?

Valencia can only play right wing, so why United buy a right back, then stick Valencia on the left side of the pitch, a position he's never played and he hardly ever utilises his left foot.
Seems a lot are getting confused that United are looking for width from the left wing, not a right winger.

Where did you get playing Valencia on left wing from?:wenger: How did you decide we are looking for width only from left wing? Just because we bid for Perisic? There is no reason why a right winger couldn't do the job for the team that a left one could. We play Mikhi/Lingard on the right usually. We could easily play them on the left.

Perisic is a left winger, why would we have bid for him if we were after a right winger.
If it's not obvious to you that we struggled all last season for width down the left hand side of the pitch, then what have you been watching?
Just to point out, generally Valencia provided the width from the right over lapping Mata, Lindgardand and Mkhitaryan. It would make so sense what so ever to push Valencia back onto the wing, as he'd honestly be less effective.
Oh and just to point out, your post said wings, so that would include the left side of the pitch, try being more specific when posting. In addition to the thread being about Perisic, who is indeed a left winger. Easy to make a conclusion that you're discussing about the left wing.

Because I believe we might generally be after width in our play be it on the left or the right. What is so difficult to understand in this?

Dont think its over with perisic, we just know what his price is and will be able to do a deal in 2-3 days if we have to, while we wait for Bale/Mbappe shenanigans. We will sign a winger and if not first choice bale then perisic i think is a good enough PlanB

We lack width on the left hand side of the pitch, not the right. Obviously as you don't seem to grasp this, there is no further point in this debate. You believe what you like and I'll judge what I see on the pitch and the players we're looking at the solve the problems.

Perisic can play on both sides and Jose said he wants a player that can play across the line.
Don't think he's particular about left or right. Lingard or Mkhi play on the right for us and none of them are particularly wingers in the strict sense.
The reason why we appear to have more with on the right is Valencia imo.

They haven't though. I don't think there's been one actual conventional left-winger mentioned in any discussion.

Plenty of right-wingers, attacking midfielders and left wing-forwards - which we aren't looking for.

I don't understand why so many people still aren't getting it: 'why are we signing Perisic, there are better players than Perisic' - we're looking for a Perisic-style player and he's the best one.
How is he a conventional left winger? he is right footed and not particularly good at crossing with his left.........

Really? I was under the assumption that he is fully two-feeted and has a good cross with both of his feet. If that is not the case, the value of getting him decreases dramaticly for me.

You are right, he is.

He also plays like a conventional winger - running the touchline and going outside the full-back.

When did Jose ever state he was looking to sign a player who could play across the line? Not seen those quotes.

Already stated Val gives us width on the right?
