Against Chelsea was my first time to watch his performance since Euro 2016. He's really impressive, his movement and work rate are incredible, both feet are capable to do anything and great pace to beat defender.

And when Micky and Mata miss time due to injuries (which you know their frail frames will have) it's going to be the Anthony Martial show on the wing 100% and the Jesse Lingard show on the other wing because the team doesn't have enough depth.

Mata has rarely been injured in his career. I think last season was his first major injury in a long time.

Would happily pay it. He's worth much more than Lukaku who we spent 75 on.

Agree with this I'd love Dembele but it's amusing seeing the change in opinion in Perisic (after s friendly) who has always been a very good player.

Pre Bayern vs Chelsea - no interest in Sanches
Post Bayern vs Cheslea - 10 teams interested in Sanches

Pre Inter vs Chelsea - Perisic is shit
Post Inter vs Chelsea - Perisic is amazing

So I see Perisic scored against Chelsea... How many want him now?

Mkhitaryan two great seasons at Dortmund (in 3 years)

2015-2016 - 53 games, 23 goals, 32 assists
2013-2014 - 46 games, 13 goals, 10 assists

I make that one decent season and one great season.
His first season for MUFC was a disaster.

What happened, I havent been online the whole day? :)
He had a good game against Chelsea. Scored, apparently looked good, and now people want.

Nothing.
I believe we have told Inter what our final offer is. And they said, "no".
No deal.
That's where we have been for a few weeks, now.

That decent season is at par with perisic great season with inter

That's a reasonable point you make.
But I would counter that with, "less goals are scored in the Italian league than in most other leagues, as most Italian teams play in a defensive fashion. So the stats are not directly comparable."

In saying that. I think Miki definitely did better for Dortmund, than Perisic did for Inter.

We havent gone back in for him again for past two weeks. Either we have shifted attention or we have decided to buy only 4 players or maybe pursue him after we bring in some money from sales(seems unlikely). Him performing well is great but it looks like most united fans have got their wish that we are NOT signing him...... For now.

We really need him to kick up a stink but he seems to actually be fairly happy still at Inter despite the reports early in the window that said he was keen to leave/join us

Except it doesn't really make any sense to sign Perisic with the intention of playing him at wing-back. It doesn't even make much sense signing him to play as a winger.

Why does it not make sense to sign him as a wing back? If Mourinho is planning to play a 3-5-2 this season then it's obvious he would look for a LWB.

It would be stupid to sign someone and play them regularly in a position they've never played before. It's a massive gamble and we'd still have to pay handsomely for the privilege.

It would make far more sense to sign an actual wing-back at a more reasonable price. Or better still, play Luke Shaw, who is absolutely perfect for that role.

Luke Shaw has never played as a wing back and at this point it's wishful thinking to hope for any contribution from him at all.

He played there several times under van Gaal. The general feeling of obstinance towards Shaw on here really is getting very tiresome but that's for another thread.

He did in LVGs time here. 3-5-2

Considering he played 20 times in 2 seasons under LVG and we rarely ever played in a 3-5-2 it's a non story. I'm tired of people on here constantly overrating and defending mediocrity.

Hardly a non story. He played in that position several times and he adapted very quickly to it. He was one of the players LVG singled out for praise in terms of his adaptation and his attitude towards training and fitness after the criticism over his weight. He's far from mediocre. Anyone with eyes can clearly see he's a huge talent but he needs a break from injuries. Its make or break for him this season

It's a non story because when LVG played a 3-5-2 we were a disaster and he had to change to a back 4 shortly after. Shaw has yet to adapt to anything at United.

LVG gave him credit at the beginning of his 2nd season pre injury after being a disaster in the first and was openly criticised for his fitness and attitude. How a guy earning 100k pw in the earliest stages of his career can be overweight and unfit is an utter disgrace and Mourinho has been the 3rd or 4th coach to publicly call him out over his poor attitude. He may not be mediocre but then again neither was Ravel Morrison and he's currently on trial at Birmingham.

Shaw will get credit when he deserves it. Showing up to pre season on weight and in shape doesn't deserve some special praise, it's the bare minimum anyone should expect from a professional athlete.

If being the operative word and we haven't been linked with any wing-backs.

Mourinho confirmed after the LA Galaxy that 352 is only being considered as an occasional option for next season. I don't see us buying players specifically for a formation we might only use 3-4 times next season.

Well, I do feel its make or break for him this season. He has all to do to impress Mourinho

It's clear that Mourinho is setting him up to fail regardless; plays badly - he is way behind the others. Plays well - it was my brain in his body. He's simply looking for vindication to exile the kid.

The thing is, Luke Shaw will be one of the best left backs in England and Europe long after Mourinho implodes at United; him and potentially even Martial will be what Lukaku and De Bruyne were to Chelsea.

Regarding Perisic in a 3-5-2, I'd be more inclined to utilise Mitchell there to be honest.

With Perisic on the team when would Martial play? Yes, Manchester needs more scoring... but is that going to come from Martial on the left?

you know this because...what? Because the 3 you mentioned helped us convert all those missed chances last year, or because they kept us out of 6th spot in the EPL?

Man...I like all three players...but come on now.

There will still be those that don't see the point in bringing in a winger that crosses, plays the ball in the air and defends better than Martial and Micky. Even if it cost 60 million.

Madness.

We need a 3rd striker and Perisic IF he even joins wont play all the time will he? What do people have against depth?

I've been saying this for a while now.
The guy has been here for 3 seasons and has played 10 good games.
Last season, when Jose said in an interview that he was having to coach Shaw throughout the game, said it all for me. He is physically pretty poor and his footballing brain is also poor.
I firmly believe that he'd have been sold this Summer, but his injury saved him.

Some say he that this is his last chance. I say, that ship has sailed and his departure is inevitable. The guy just is not good enough.

For me, Martial is a Striker. Not in the Mourinho mould though, so perhaps for Mou he is a wide forward. In any case I see he as a forward so he shouldn't be in direct competition with any winger we sign. He's an alternative on the flank or an "off-the -shoulder" striker, for me.

Martial is certainly a darling of the fans. Perhaps he deserves it for having a good first season.
Miki on the hand had an extremely poor season with us. I think he scored 4 league goals, which if an 18 year old did for us, would probably see him either sent to the reserves or sold off to a League One team.
One thing I will say is that Miki, in European games, was very good.

I haven't seen Perisic play too many times so I can't comment on him, but if Jose is desperate to bring him in, I trust his judgement.

This thread is unbelievable. When people can't bash Perisic, they are bashing Shaw, Martial, Mkhitaryan, Jose, just about anybody that comes in their way (including each other). And now I'm one of them.

I'd like this thread to be renamed Iwum Perisic. Or Ivan Bashisic. Thanks.

A sincere no to perisic. And here is why :-

1. against any big teams, jose will play a defensive, counter attacking game. For that we need good many defenders and hope that our main target man can get one goal. So far, we have lukaku who is great in scoring , martial and rashford has got pace, pogba and create chances from the deep. It all plan A, and jose has already done that.

2. jose just talking about his lack of players situation in the market so that he has something to scratch onto when the results will not go his way, or even if results goes his way, he can still show how great he is to use limited squad players and still be a contender.

3. perisic's quoted price is 50min roughly and he is 29 already. why not spend another 50 mn (roughly) and get bale instead. We can use bale as LWB, LM, LW or even as second striker. Bale is almost the same age as perisic but he his pace is more, his free kicks are powerful and he will bring the oomph factor in the team. Ofcourse that means, RM will be able to buy Mbappe, but we have seen RM buying Owen in his prime, becks in his prime, Ronaldo(R9) in his prime and still could not win the ucl. Just to make it clear I dont want neither bale nor perisic.

That's very harsh he played a massive part in our EL run and was very good in some games he played for us. Yes he never had a brilliant season but he wasn't extremely poor ffs.

He was quite poor in line with most of the team. Especially considering he was coming as one of bundesliga's best or what not that was being said last summer.
