Behave yourself Paz. You're just coming across as ignorant there. He was a stand out performer in the most recent Euro's and has represented two of Europe's top clubs. He's not some nonentity. And enough of this 'tier1' bullshit. It's what makes the team function effectively.
Fair, fair. I admit I don't watch SerieA regularly (or really international football for that matter).
All I'm saying is for nearly £50m I want someone that can hit the ground running and makes opponents quaver in their boots.
Maybe it's me and me living in a transfer window of 2/3 years ago.

They don't. Just that we forget others' flops. Simple example would be Dortmund bought Ginter who was supposed to be the next best defender in Germany.
That's my point though, they can recoup fee if 'flop' due to age; didn't Ginter get sold for €20m or something? How much did they get him for?

He will frighten opposition fullbacks. We haven't had a player like Perisic since Nani was showing good form in 2010/11

Ironically, for an underwhelming attacking signing, the pressure on this guy is gonna be absolutely massive...

Very few fans want him, he's not marketable and his price tag is way over the top.

If he doesn't hit the ground running, fans will immediately want him off the pitch, and to be honest, I imagine the board will too.

His transfer has run on and on with most fans actively hoping we don't sign him.

Kind of like a Fellaini replacement, albeit in a different position!

For context - whenever he's on the pitch it'll be at the expense of either Martial, Rashford, Mata or Mkhi... all fan faves, and all better players (imo).

He hasn't even got a comical hairdo to soften the blow either, this is just terrible.

Transfer prices have gone crazy as everyone is aware of the money PL clubs make from TV rights either we spend on someone we want or left with nothing.

I am glad Mourinho is targeting some more experienced players. Need the right blend

YES! YES! YES!

The ageist view surrounding the two transfers is so misplaced. We are already stocked with fantastic young talent that can in time, with the right experience around them, become a great team:

Rashford, Martial, Bailly, Pogba, Lindelof, Lukaku, Lingard, TFM, Pereira, Tuanzebe, Shaw, DDG

Feck me. Imagine all of them reaching or exceeding their potential! That is some core.

Compare that to the old guard that they can learn from:

Carrick, Smalling, Jones, Valencia , Young, Fellaini, Herrera, Ibra, Mata, Mikhi

I see three names on that list that are captain material. Two of whom are 35 feckin years old.

We need balance on the older side. We are fine with the youth

I thought your point was that they don't have youngsters who flop.

If you want flops, try Adrian Ramos, Ciro Immobile, Kevin kampl etc.

Recuperating fees makes no difference to us. We don't need the extra 10m to survive.

I doubt those opposition fullbacks will have too many sleepless nights thinking about Perisic of all people. That being said it'll be good if he provides some decent variety.

You want us to go the same way as Monaco, Dortmound and Atletico in signing hundreds of young talents waiting for 10 of them to make a breakthrough ? How much time do you want us to go trophyless ?

If you somehow think Perisic won't greatly improve our attacking potential on that left wing, something must be really wrong with the way you judge players.

And nobody was interested in such a great player during all that time but us ?? I hope you are truly spot on but I'm afraid you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

As opposed to there being something wrong with yourself in general? :)

Even if that doesn't happens just his presence with his pace and staying wide will allow other players in our team to excel and stretch the opposition defence

Not sure what else to reply. Who was the last youngster who we got terribly wrong? Memphis? We overall lost maybe 5m on him. Januzaj also flopped but since he was an academy product he came for free so no one loses other than he himself. Jury is still out on martial and bailly but they seem like great players who have performed for us too.

The last youngster who flopped masssively after joining us has to be who? Bebe?

I don't want to go trophyless! :D
Why don't we do what Bayern, Real, Chelsea etc do. Buy obvious tier1 then invest the rest in awesome up and coming talents rather than 'that'll do' signings.

Was the discussion about youngsters specifically ?

The only one who actually buys tier 1 player of your current list is Real.

Bayern are depending on their current squads for many years and the changes are very minimal. Also strange to list Chelsea as their signings have been pretty underwhelming regarding the names for about 3 years including the current market. The only tier 1 player they bought in last 3 years was Kante. The rest are tier 2 at best.

All clubs are following a pragmatic way of building their teams more than searching for tier 1 names only. Clear example away from Chelsea is Juve. Their transfer strategy is based on signing +35 experienced top player for 1-2 years + the best players available in Serie A + getting some cast offs from other top clubs by loan moves and here they go to CL final twice in 3 years.

From what I've seen of Perisic in the 2016/17 season I believe he will be a real threat for us down the wing.

Maybe other teams weren't interested in him due to them not needing a player of such profile. In my opinion and more importantly our managers opinion we do.

I hope he is right because Mourinho wanting Perisic, doesn't mean much in terms of him being a success. Nothing is guaranteed.
Yeah I think so. I was going by this.
Tier 1 players doesn't mean youngsters specifically tbh.

Oh dear... where is this tier1 list you talk about? Is Mendy, Walker and Danilo on it, was Bakayoko on it, was Sanches? Who did Real buy from this list in this transfer window? Sorry I'm actually intrigued.

Tielmans, Sanches, Perisic, Hazard (at the time) = hot youngsters
Or identify position and break bank for best in that position (e.g. Perisic vs ASanchez, Bale, Neymar, etc).

Huh? It says highly rated youngsters right under that

I know its just a friendly but he looked good yesterday and chelsea ended interest in him as we had got in there first and they couldn't turn his head.

What's important is that as a club we do our utmost to provide all the tools necessary that Mourinho requires to challenge for the league.

Sorry to be that guy, but what have I missed guys? Seems we are genuinely close to both Perisic and Matic?
