SSN saying again we are close to agreeing a fee.

I'd honestly rather stick with what we have.

Save the money for next summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to buy David Hirst from Sheff Wed. They told United he was not for sale, rejecting a £3m offer in November (as well as lower offers the previous summer). A few weeks later Ferguson bought his 2nd choice (or possibly even lower than that), Eric Cantona.

I can't imagine that Sir Alex is even remotely disappointed that he failed to get his number one target in this instance.

I don't get why 'he's fast and works hard' is being used as a selling point. They're attributes that every wide player should have. It's like a car salesman bigging up a car for having a steering wheel.

The issue is that we have an entirely unremarkable attack and that adding an entirely unremarkable player to it wont help anything. How hard working he is doesn't matter much then.

I don't really remember seeing this lad live so couldn't say how good be is but, based on tinternet and articles, to have someone with a bit of pace, a couple of tricks and the ability to go on the outside left to cross would be a nice addition to the squad. If it's Perisic, so be it.

The fact that many are upset he's not a "game changer" bothers me less. I don't think he's intended to be anything other than another cog in the wheel so that we have another way of playing. Contrary to popular opinion, I think we've got a few game changers already so Perisic just gives us more options.

I have to think that we're still in talks with someone else tho. I don't think smokescreen per se but that Perisic is mostly agreed and teed up in case whomever else can't be dragged over the line. Who that is, I couldn't guess.

Last of all, I would love to see the transfer threads ban all discussions over player cost. In this day and age of mega bids, I just don't think it serves any purpose to continually judge a player on their cost. Player A would be great at €35mio but at €44mio, it's crazy, far too much! That makes no sense to me. We either want them or we don't, they fit the way we want to play or they don't, they're $hite or they're not etc......I reckon it'd cut some of these threads in half easily...

We should have moved on from this guy a long time ago. Bad time to go for one of Inter's best players.

If you think we can go into this season after the way Martial looked last year and Carrick's age without strengthening in those areas then you're a brave person. No way we finish above 3rd.

He wasn't a second choice. He wasn't an option because nobody knew he was for sale.

How does saving money help us win trophies? Never understood this fan mentality where people go on as if they're frugally saving for a holiday or a new car.

So we're based in LA at the minute. 12 hour flight from Beijing. Perisic is currently in Milan, a 14 hour flight from LA.

12 hour flight = definitely off
14 hour flight = still on

?
We are in Utah currently moving towards Houston.

It's certainly true that, for all people say "who cares about the cost, it's not our money", it sure comes up a lot. I reckon you're right, at least half the posts in this and similar threads are discussing the cost / value.

Having said that it would be a shame to ban such talk. If people find it interesting it seems harsh to ban it because you don't.

192 pages for Perisic... madness. Average player and crazy amount of money.
I saw him in the last 2 years a lot of time... Martial is more talented and better player than him, plus younger.
Anyway, I meant our club has to move on.

Fortunately we may have both players instead of only one. At the end of the day Mourinho will buy the players he wants to make his grand strategy work.

Lol, maybe ban is too strong....how about "discourage"....? If we all went into a transfer thread with the view that the World has gone mad and anything above a couple of million for anyone, other than say a balon d'or top 10'er, is over the top we'd be able to talk to footy fans rather than trainee accountants. Just a thought mind...

This one is very strange..even as United transfer sagas go this one shouldnt be that complicated. The longer it goes on the more I think we have something else bubbling away. Its a pity because at the right price I think he would do a great job for us.

Pretty much this. I reckon much like Fabinho we are biding our time until our other options are ruled out for definate.

I feel like unbeknownst to me I fell into a coma and have awoken to a world with only one winger, as apparently we can't move on from the Croatian Ashley Young and explore some other options for the role, Perisic is the Omega Man!

I have watched him for a good number of years (a coincidence really), considering I have a girlfriend who is from Dortmund and my cousin supports Club Brugge (I'm from Belgium originally) so I've had the opportunity to see him play many times over the last couple of years. At Club Brugge he was quite the revelation and stood out in that team, however at Dortmund he was very hit and miss and reportedly fell out with Klopp there. Perisic then moved to Wolfsburg and that's where I admittedly stopped following his progress. Therefore my judgement/knowledge on him is limited in that regard.

From my knowledge - I think he is quite a limited player and certainly not the type of player which will have supporters at the edge of their seats but then again, maybe that's not what we need right now. I think with the right manager he might end up being a very solid addition and he clearly brings years of experience with him. However a lot of if's and but's here.

There is the solid argument that we miss a talisman in our final third and to be honest I can tell you already that Perisic is not the player who will transform us. United would be his biggest challenge as of yet, make no mistake there, and with the exception of Club Brugge, he has never transformed a team. I think supporters would have been more happy with this signing if we managed to secure Griezmann along with Perisic, however we failed to do so. I am all for signing Perisic providing we do not pay ridiculous money for him and manage to bring in another player who has the potential to transform our attack.

However, I do have the feeling we will not sign such a player this transfer window and I think supporters are beginning to realise this. That's why some people are venting their frustrations over the Perisic transfer, which is admittedly unfair as he could end up being a very solid addition but far from sufficient considering the state of our current squad and apparent lack of quality up front. I we managed to sign Griezmann (which I believe was the plan); I am guessing there would be a very different tone in this thread.

I've heard he's great with both feet and can cross really well, he's a tireless player which Mourinho loves and works hard. Yeah we do need abit more quality up front, Sanchez looks to be moving but I really can't see Sanchez coming to us that'd be amazing but he oooks city bound. For what it's worth I still think Griezmann is high on our list but definitely not this window, maybe a big money move in the January window instead or it'll be next summer, either way I think he will be at united at some point in the not too distant future. It would've been sweet if we got him this window though it'd turn us into title challengers and maybe champions league too.

I feel like this is a consequence of all that "watch this space we're rich as feck and will shit on all clubs" bollocks Ed was spouting when he was appointed. All clubs are out to fleece us on transfers because why not.

Trouble is who is a top attacker we could sign for a low(ish) fee out there? If we sign an up and coming, we would piss off Rashford, and anyone else decent who is being bandied about would cost Lukaku money, and wouldnt really be any better than Lukaku. The better players are already at the best clubs and the clubs wouldnt sell anyway. Even if we did somehow get another top striker, Mou would still only play 1 up top most games.

Look I've argued this enough already but James would have been a far more talented attacker to get and even if Sanchez is set on going to City I still think the club should be going all out to try and sign him and I just don't think we're interested. Apart from that you never know who's available. I didn't expect Bonucci to be available. Plenty of other top wingers out there like Lemar and Dembele though I'm not sure whether a deal for either of them would be possible. Ultimately though they're very different players to Perisic so I don't think we have any interest

Because every game last year we were desperately crying out for proper width to open teams up maybe? and not have Mhiki, Mata, Martial and co. all wanting to come inside, and not wanting to see us channeling everything through a congested middle of the pitch for yet another season?

So an he'd give us options on both flanks for actual width you'd imagine? along with an engine up & down down the left flank that Martial didn't provide and Mourinho criticized him for?

The sum of its parts approach to building an actual effective team? but no, the CAF in all its wisdom wants instead; random muppet signings, more inside fecking forwards, James Rodriguez, a slow no.10 by trade and i've even read an opinion of putting Pereira there ffs.

So now it looks likely that we'll sign him.His he any better than what we have got?.

I think you need to read Sir Alex' autobiography. Not quite how it all happened.

Is a lack of alternatives that are actually available, people just seem to say that we need to look elsewhere. But fail to mention who has very similar attributes who can fill the position Jose sees as required. United know Inter will sell, just a question of the fee, plus player wants to join.

Maybe he's more than unremarkable then? Maybe!!

After Simon Stones tweet I'll consider this transfer dead officially. I think we'll start to hear rumors about new targets very soon.

He very different to what we have for sure. Better than some of the fringe players and more suited to the wing than most of what we have.
Whether he is a better player is another story, but he may make us a bit more effective out wide.

Based on the media, Jose himself says he knows nothing about it.
I may be blond and blue eyed but didn't Inter pretty much confirm it? So If the club wasn't interested I'm sure they'd deny interest. That or Ed is playing along and he's indeed a smokescreen.

James is better at crossing....

I don't think we'll be able to get him out of his Bayern loan deal! Besides if you want a rapid winger, who works hard, plays wide, why on earth would anyone want James to play that role? Might as well stick Pereira out there.

Did we hear anything about Morata and, especially, about Lukaku from the club? Lukaku came, seemingly, completely out of the blue despite him being our main target all along.

The club don't give a flying feck what the media say or print, why should they, 99.99% of it is made up bullshit.

If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong, no biggie.

Lets be clear on this, Inter want to sell Persic WAY more than you think. It will unlock their transfer window, and they prefer to do it soon. They just know Jose Mourinho wants Perisic and would get him at any price, and so they will try to get as much money as possible. I mean, do you seriously think they wont sell Perisic for anything above 40 million euros? But since Jose Mourinho has cornered United's management when it comes to negotiations, he wont care if he does Inter a favor and increase the price. In a way he probably prefers helping Inter even if it means his current club pays more money. Only if Inter feel that United truly lost interest will they accept, and Mourinho's insistence on Perisic ensures that even if the club loses interest, the manager's interest will keep the links strong as ever.

No big deal either way.

A bit strange we haven't wrapped this up already.
